View Full Version : Anquan Boltin'?

Didn't see this posted anywhere and I feel that this in the appropriate thread, but if not it can be moved. But per PFT:
Now that the Cardinals have locked up receiver Larry Fitzgerald at a more affordable (or, as the case may be, less unaffordable) price over the next four seasons, they might have to deal with another thorny issue at the position.
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Anquan Boldin could want more money and/or a trade in the wake of Fitzgerald's $10 million-per-year contract....
Throw in the fact that Boldin is represented by Drew Rosenhaus, and the stage is set for Boldin to start making noise about moving on.
Possible destinations are Philly, Dallas, and the Redskins.

I would like the aquisition almost as much as I like the thread title.

i am usually not in favor of trading picks and giving a huge contract to someone, but if there is a way to get Boldin we have to take it into serious consideration. The guy is an animal after the catch, very solid hands, very good route runner, physical and has size.
Pretty much, he is what every team really wants in a Wide Receiver, and i would be all for trading for him and giving him a huge contract when he gets here. Again, i am usually not in favor of such moves (i thought the llyod deal was dumb, i also thought giving santana a new contract was dumb but it worked out, as well as Arch, etc.) But this is one case where if you have the oppurtunity you take it.
Give me Boldin!

I love Boldin, he'd be perfect for the skins, but Fitz's new deal saves them enough cash to give him that deal he might want.

man, just read the full thing, and philly/dallas would be highly interested as well. Thats scary in dallas if they got homo, big oline, to, witten, barber, terry glenn as the 3. and philly always finds the best way to use its playmakers (see hjow westbrook keeps killling teams, TO his first year)
I would love for the skins to get him, especially if he comes out publicly and we can get him on cents to the dollar

That's just PFT's speculation(and all they call them is "possible destinations"). Dallas cannot afford to give Boldin the contract he would want, especially with TO coming into a contract year. They could, but if they don't intend on keeping TO, but thats just asking for TO to turn the Boys into Lord of the Flies. Philly keeps getting mentioned as a potential destination for any big time WR, but they never make the move.

true, but do the cards want to have that much money tied up in the receiver position ? my guess is they let one of them go inthe next year or so

need to keep boldin away from the nfc east.. it would be tough to have to face him twice a year.. on the other hand he would be a perfect fit for what we need.

they spent on TO.. they spent on crayton..i think they would spend on boldin.. but i think the next target for them is to lock up newman
philly will get a prime receiver eventually. they havent been the same since TO left their offense and they know it.. but if they draft a receiver at #1 pick this year, that is where they will make their move.
we would do very well to get AB.. plus, he is a rosenhaus player.. steer him to us, drew...

There is not a receiver in the league I would rather add to this team than Anquan Boldin. Steve Smith and Andre Johnson would make for a tough argument, but they're obviously going nowhere.

possibly why we keep clearing cap space without using it? We all know it logically makes sense the skins are trying or want to make a big contract. they keep clearing the cap space, and increasing salary cap numbers in the future and not using the space now, they gotta want to make a move otherwise clearing the cap space doesn't make sense.
Boldin? Hall? who will it be?

Four logical possibilities:
1-They cleared out the cap room expecting to sign some guys(Briggs, etc) only to see the market shoot through the roof and make them unaffordable. Which means the FO are total morons.
2-They cleared out the cap room to make it easier to take a wrecking ball to the roster in a year. Which is stupid, go ahead and do it now.
3-They cleared out the cap room and have some big move(s) planned. And other considerations are holding up the deals.
4-They cleared out the cap room expecting to be making some moves, but since Vinny was inspired by "Into the Wild" on DVD, he's missing in some Alaskan national park right now.
4a-They cleared out the cap room, but Vinny had a nervous breakdown and is in the mental ward at INOVA speaking in a british accent with his father having power of attorney over him as the tabloids swarm his house.

for the first one, it seems possible, but then why later put in more restructures for portis and moss? briggs was already signed, they saw the market, no need right.
The second, i didn't think about that. But they have to be smarter then that right, i mean not just going a year and then take out the roster. i give them more credit then that, tho i probably shouldn't
3. this is what i am thinkin. they want o make a deal, find someone for cents to the dollar, and continue to clear cap space cause they think it will get done. Maybe once the comp picks come out???

maybe they cleared cap space cause that is the routine every year. They checked the calendar and it says "clear cap space for upcoming FA period" lol

Depends on what the restructures are. They could have been in the works regardless of any signings.

If we do nothing in FA, then I think this is the case. 2008 will be essentially an open audition for everyone on the roster.

You can't trade Comp picks. I don't know who we could be waiting for, we don't seem to have much interest in Hall really. I would hope Peppers, but I doubt it.

I was thinking about Peppers being a possibility for us at the midpoint of last season... the papers around here have been wondering what the heck is going on with JPep and for something to come out about being sick or something like that. Now if I remember correctly, I think his agent is one Drew Rosenhaus.
Guys we could be targeting with DR as their agent:
Chad Johnson
Anquan Boldin
Julius Peppers
Is it just me or do these guys fill needs on our team and have either (1) started causing issues when they had not before; or (2) played their way out of town?

You know it is possible the restructures were done for the purposes of having cap room to sign draftees and make small F/A depth type acquisitions. As I understand it we only have about $8 Million in cap space, and this is the first year in many that we have a full compliment of 1st day picks. I would imagine the Rookie Allocation is going to be between $5 - $6 Million, thus leaving $2-3 Million in additional cap space to make an emergency move due to an injury etc..
Just a thought.

I just thought it was odd that at least two of those guys were quiet, good citizens that were productive on the field but now have either problems with the team this year and is actively trying to get off his team (Chad J) or had a terrible year without reason the year he was asked by management to step up and be a leader on his team (JPep).
Anquan has neither acted up nor had a poor season so he can't be considered with these two. But with Fitz getting his new deal, we'll see if that happens now.
And I won't put ANYTHING past Drew....

That's plausable. However, doesn't BLloyd come off the books next year? I thought I heard somewhere we get a bigger cap savings after June 1 due to cutting him, thus increasing our cap relief.

We do, but we actually save some money versus what he would have cost if we kept him on the roster.

First thought is it's pure gas. Second is that I'd rather have bouldin than Fitzgerald. F is the better athlete, but B is the better football player. Third thought is Rosenhaus. If we cooperate for get this draft and maybe next.

Sorry, it looks like Anquan is gonna be a Cardinal (http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/KentSomers/19116)
GM Rod Graves made it clear yesterday that the Cardinals weren't going to go on a shopping spree in free agency with the cap space created by Larry Fitzgerald's new deal.
The focus will be on taking care of their own. Adam Schefter of NFL.com writes today that the Cardinals attention will turn now to receiver Anquan Boldin, who makes far less now than Fitzgerald. He also speculates that Boldin could be a subject of trade inquiries and rumors.
I would be surprised if the Cardinals traded Boldin. Along with strong safety Adrian Wilson, he's the soul of this team.

Ok...so how much $ are they going to sink into that WR corp? Sounds like a ton of dough....especially when this historically underperforming team has many other holes. Whatever makes them happy, I guess...

I'm a HUGE fan of Boldin and as a Cowboys fan I can absolutely say I'd be THRILLED to have him in a Cowboys uniform. I don't know that I believe there is any real shot of that happening but I'd certainly be thrilled if it did.
