...after last night you have to be pretty confident that the Giants are beatable. They seem to be a streaky team. That's been my impression of them the past few seasons. They're hot and cold on offense.
I'm trying to pick the games this week, and after seeing the Giants implode last night I'm struggling with this game. It was a "Vick-less" Falcons team that lost to The 'Skins last week...
I'm leaning towards Washington. 3-0 would be an INCREDIBLE start for you. It's just that "Redskins have trouble beating NY" thing that's causing my debate.
Some other toughies this week too... New Orleans @ Tennessee, St. Louis @ Seattle, Buffalo @ Miami, and NY Jets @ New England. Tough week to make picks eh?

I don't think the Redskins can be too confident about beating anyone, much less the New York Giants, who swept us last year.

I agree Spence!

At this point I'm not thinking "TOO" confident - we are still coming together as a team and just getting our confidence as a TEAM. We can't go into a game scared to win.

Spence, you're starting to remind me of one the old guy muppets that sat in the balcony and heckled Ms. Piggy, Kermit, and Fozzy. ...or Randy Quaid in Major League.:D

Rick, if you think I'm unpopular at this website now, just wait until they see my latest power poll!

Well, EVERY team is beatable. Just look around at some of the losses, like Tampa to Carolina, or The Eagles already 0-2. But what you just said, the redskins are guilty of too. We have shown to be hot and cold thus far in this young season.
I think our defense is better than theirs, and so far Edwards has shown to be able to change things up with no problems. I think this will be the factor. I expect both offenses to be streaky.

I'm trying to pick the games this week, and after seeing the Giants implode last night I'm struggling with this game. It was a "Vick-less" Falcons team that lost to The 'Skins last week...

But Johnson did pretty well until the 4th quarter when he looked lost. We scored 33 points off a very tough defense. That's impressive. That same Atlanta team beat the cowpatties 27-13 in the first game, and those cowpatties beat the Giants in OT. Being Vickless would not have been too much a facor.

I'm leaning towards Washington. 3-0 would be an INCREDIBLE start for you. It's just that "Redskins have trouble beating NY" thing that's causing my debate.

Depends...what's the spread. I have little doubt that this game will be separated by a field goal in either direction.

Some other toughies this week too... New Orleans @ Tennessee, St. Louis @ Seattle, Buffalo @ Miami, and NY Jets @ New England. Tough week to make picks eh?

Jets suck...I said this before the season started, but NYJUNC convinced others here that they didn't. The pats will beat them easy. I'm waiting for Martz to make a decision on qb before I say anything about the rams / seahawks game. I'd go with the odds with the Miami / Buff game. Miami is at home, and coming off a good win. Buffalo is due for a loss.
Tenn. / New Orleans...with McNair having a dislocated ring finger on his throwing hand, this hurts the Titans chances a lot. I'm going with New Orleans.
Does that help any?

Martz has already decided to go with Bulger.

Does this mean Warner is done as the starter in St. Louis?

There are two types of "confidence".

The kind which drives teams to be better, and the kind that makes teams become lax and take things for granted.

Our Redskins are not taking their 2-0 record for granted. THey have had to fight tooth and nail for those victories...including coming back from a 17 point deficeit on the road.

I think a little bit of confidense is EXACTLY what this team needs coming back to Fed Ex Field agasint the Giants this Sunday.

I hope you're right, Stouty. If you are, our Skins are in good shape.

One problem.... the Giants are sure t be pissed that they lost to Parcells and the Cowboys. Spells some trouble for us

I've got to say it. If this team wants to be a playoff team, then this is a must win game. You've got to win games in your division. We are at home and playing reasonably well. We've got to come out and punch the Gints right in the mouth with everything we've got. I could care less if they come in pissed. We've got to have the attitude that we are going to take this game.

agreed robert. seems we're saying the same thing in different threads. I don't care how pissed they are, if we handle our business, it doesn't matter.

that's a big IF! We are riding a 2 game winning streak and feeling good. It's only natural to think we're better than we are. Idon't want to lose this game under ANY circumstances!

I'm not worried about the Giants being pissed. I'm very glad they lost at home to the Cowboys. If we can beat the Giants on Sunday, we'll be 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the division. The Giants will be 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the division. That's a great advantage to have over them this early in the season. The Giants are down right now. The best thing to do is kick 'em when they're down. Kick 'em hard. Kick 'em long. Kick 'em kick 'em kick 'em.

I see a few intangibles in our favor.

One, we're playing at home and hopefully the place will rock like it hasn't in years.

Two, the Giants are coming off a short week.

Three, I think our team is not scared to play anybody at this point while the Giants may be questioning themselves.

Four, Spurrier is a better coach than he was last year.

Five, we've got a QB who APPEARS to have a rare ability to lead a team back from defeat or on to victory.

All good signs. Of course, the game is decided on the field. But I really feel good about our chances. Plus, we're favored!!! So some "experts" must also feel good about the skins.

USA Today has the skins a 2.5-point favorite. I think that's a fair line.

Hope you're right. Cut down on mistakes, fight hard til the end, and execute. Yep.

I actually wish we were playing the Eagles this week. They are REALLY down........and I would love to kick them while they are down.

Ya know...the way the NFC is panning out...we may have a division winner with a record of 10-6 or even 9-7. Its not out of the realm of possibility.

Parity in our division could really help us down the road.

I think they key to this game is not talent issues or such, it is what was mentioned above, mistakes. We must cut down on stupid drive killing penalties and penalties that start a drive off in the hole. We also need to boost special teams and get people in the agme wthat will block and open holes. Fundamental tackling is an issues as well. These guys have to wrap guys up and bring them done.

We have teh talent to win many fo the games this year, but these types of things, penalties, missed tackles, and poor blocking are enough to kill.

I TOTALLY AGREE PennSkinsFan-........No more stupid penalties-..!!!!!!! And keep on your assignments......This is a MUST win Game.......This game will show me (personally) if the Skins are REALLY on the RIGHT TRACK.........

Do we have the talent to Win? YES!!!
Do we have the coaching staff to Win??? YES!!!

Lets go beat down some Giants!!!!!!!!!!!

GO SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know really I would think that our guys are approaching this as the most important game of the year BECAUSE it happens to be the NEXT game and its a division rival. BUT next week the same thing goes - IT will be the most important game of the year (and we are 3-0)

PennSkinsFan
09-19-2003, 09:51 AM
Nah, it is not the BIGGEST game of the year, but it is DAMN improtant for credibility. Look at the facts. Jets were without there starting QB. Falcons were without there starting QB. Whether that had an effect on either game is questionable either way. BUT, this game has Collins, has the starters, and would propel this team two games up on Giants and Eagles, as well as hand in this young season, the Giants a second division loss already. So, yes, i see this game as significant!
