For years, I've been known to partake in the occasional "Captain n' Coke" (or more likely Ginger Ale, but hey who's counting), but now I've found a NEW spiced rum... Ok maybe it isn't "new" per say, but like NBC once said, "If you haven't seen it, its new to you".

So who has tried Sailor Jerry's rum? It is ~ 95 proof or something so on top of being better than the Captain, it pack a little more punch.

Oh and ignore my man Tom's opinion. He is in bed with Diageo. :D

Regular Capt Morgan gives me a vicious headache, so I only go with the Private Stock with that brand. Never had Sailor Jerry but let me know tomorrow how it treated you :D.

I usually buy Goslings Black Seal and mix it with Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer. It's called a Dark 'N Stormy and I first started drinking them on my honeymoon in Bermuda. It is more authentic with the Ginger Beer and there is a difference in the taste. Ginger Beer has a more intense ginger flavor.

If I'm doing Mojitos, I usually use silver Bacardi but I have also used Goslings Gold, which makes a good Mojito that is a bit darker.

I don't do the Daquiris or Coladas (I would be welcome to a real one, w/fresh coconut milk, etc) but a frozen Rum Runner or Hurricane is good and any rum will do.

Oh yeah, some hot chocolate with dark rum and Malibu is a great warm up for those cold tailgates in December.

I'm fine now, but it does pack a punch... Of course I am a heavy pourer. I rarely ever remember being truly hungover so I may not be the best test case. They sell the small bottles if you ever want to try it, and it is the same price as CM. With things as tight as they are in the economy, I'm sure folks appreciate more bang for the buck. :D (not to mention that it tastes better)

Also, my wife and I did a blind taste test with Grey Goose and Kirklands (Costco) Vodkas. I'll tell you what, we both prefer the Goose if drinking straight, but I'd be floored if someone could tell the difference in a mixed drink.

In all of my lurkings, I felt the need to post. Jerry happens to be a good friend of mine and Jerry treats me well.

Not a huge Rum fan unless it is dressed up frilly, fruity and sporting a fashionable, but impractical, umbrella.

I haven't had rum in awhile. Had too much of it in my younger years I guess.
I can't wait for Tom to chime in here.

He is one of 3 things here......#1 A "smoker", #2 the"rich kid", or #3 not a big drinker. Shoot when i was underage and right at the drinking age it was Natty Bo every weekend. Back then it was like $5 a case or something crazy.

...plus she was the one who also gave me the ticket to my first Redskins game (at RFK)...man, she's the best friend ever!

Ugh. I never could understand why people drank terrible beer/booze... That is probably the biggest reason I really didn't drink until I turned 21.

Never heard of Sailor Jerry but I'l give it a shot.

I've always enjoyed Captain Morgans; and I've found that Coke Zero tastes just as good with it as the original (higher calorie) version of Coke.

Totally agree. But I compensated by drinking almost all hard liquor (Absolute, CM, Crown Royal, Jack, 151, & Cuervo mostly). I never really got into beer at all until ~ 30.

Which is hard for me to believe, because UD was such a beer school back in the 90s. It was all Beast Light at the fraternity parties...and if you were lucky, you showed up to a house/apt party off campus and someone had "upgraded" and got a Miller Lite keg. I believe I drank some Captain Morgans at UD and a few $1 shooters at the Down Under...but that is about it. Looks like you and I were at the opposite ends of the spectrum back then. lol

I had a crash course in hard liquor the very first weekend I transfered down to Radford University. Down there, they drank bourbon like it was water.

Edit: BTW - I was at the ABC store today and saw the Sailor Jerry. Nice bottle with the hula girl on it. I had to pass, as I was in the market for some Maker's Mark, but I do plan on trying this out real soon.

4. A natty connoseur who enjoys the occasional hard alcohol. Hooray cheap beer!

I can't drink Captain Morgan anymore because whenever I do, all I can taste is red Gatorade and throw-up, and then I remember why I don't drink it anymore. I don't drink much of anything anymore though, a shot of whiskey here and there and thats about it.

That's probably just because it's spiced... if you get that same reaction with bacardi, then I dunno.

Hopefully you're not like my buddy though, he's allergic to whatever the extract from sugar cane is, as well as whatever they put into those fake tequilas (like jose). So it's all 100% agave or rice alcohol (good luck figuring out which vodka is extracted from what lol). Or he's just a wuss and can't hold his liquor...
