View Full Version : Restricted Free Agency - Boom or Bust?
Just how good was Dan Snyder's tactic to go after restricted free agents. Was it worth it or did we overpay? We should check the progress throughout the season.
L. Coles vs. Pats DL Ty Warren
T. Canidate vs. Rams CB De Juan Groce
C Morton vs. Jets S Derek Pagel
M. Bowen vs. Eagle OT J. Bridges
J. Haley vs. Panther WR Walter Young
As you all know, several of the teams that we signed the players from traded those picks to other teams who then drafted the above players.
You would expect the veterans to make quicker starts than rookies. But almost all of the draftees haven't even gotten in a game yet. So far - Advantage Snyder

Don't forget you have to compare it a few years from now when the cap hit takes serious effect. Right now it looks great but if Champ leaves is it really worth it??

There was nor is no doubt that talent wise we are far better off going the restricted free agent path.
The only consternation that you will hear around the league and from the media is what it will do to us, as far as the salary cap, 2 or 3 years from now. The argument is that you need the "cheap" labor that the draft supplies and no fiscally sound football team can survive without that "cheap" labor.

RFA is a great way to go for one offseason, or every once and a while. It is not an every year solution. Now that we have these players, the next step is to draft players and groom them knowing that they will not need to start right away and can concentrate on adjusting to the game.

I agree this year was about getting the players that SS to run his style of offense and fill in gaps on ST and D.Now it is up to the FO to scout and pull off a solid draft next year beginning to end. That way we can continue to build on the RFA nucleus that we purchased this offseason.
