Looks like all the undrafted rookies on the roster have to earn their stripes and logos. This is an old school idea that George Allen use to do, and was also done in Gibbs I. All the rookies have to make the team to get to wear the famous Indian Head in the wardrum. I like this, it gives the undrafted rookies incentive to work hard to accomplish making the roster.
All the Veterans have full logos and stripes. They have already earned theirs.

I am not sure if the drafted rookies have theirs, just for being drafted.

Update: All helmets have stripes, but no Indianheads for the Rookies. They have to earn them.

Im sure the idea came from Monk's Presser just after the HOF announcement. He spoke in great detail about how thrilled he was to earn his stripes.
appreciated this line...hopefully it stays that way.
In case you were wondering, there is no player wearing jersey No. 21.

The "All Short Passes" post from Fitzgerald suggests that Akh's thoughts about the passing game are correct......Just sayin.

yeah...sounded like there was one "deep" pass but it was to Mix. also, the comparison of Davis to Sellers is interesting.

Maybe just maybe, Davis will be worked in a bit at FB? But, I love the blog, at least I can vision what's going on at the park.

I like the idea of having to earn your stripes. Those who make final cuts should be the only ones allowed to wear it IMO.

its the first practice. he hasnt even opened the playbook up yet. It was toward the end of practice, probably doesnt want to push their legs too much. We will see opening day what the passing game is really like. But I agree, that this offense will have more short passes than not, but we still needd to stretch the field vertically too. Probably making sure the guys can run short routes, cause if they cant, why keep them. Just sayin. LOL.

Frankly, I think the passing offense will have some deep routes, especially if Santana is on the Roster. I look at Seattle last year, whenever they had their burner healthy (Deion Branch) they threw some deep routes but none of the routes I saw that were deep were outside the hash marks.

I think the inside the hashmarks might help this season, since they changed the forceout rule. Hopefully, JC and SM do hook up down field. We had some good shots last season and just missed sometimes by a couple of feet. Hopefully some more, catches like the 2 santana pulled against the cowgirls a couple of years ago too.

well i cant speak for everyone we are all different but as would apply to me if i were a rookie, just the thought of making the team and being pro football player with the chance to make the big bucks would have me giving 100% all the time, the thing with the stripes/logo etc wouldnt make me work any harder
of course had to reflect back to when i got my first stripe in the army, that was a pretty big deal, heck $20.00 more each month lol

I don't think Davis can make the switch to FB...reading some of his scouting reports say he's a willing blocker but it's a work in progress. I guess I don't like the fact of investing a 2nd round pick on somebody that might switch positions, especially FB. If they wanted a good pass catching FB they should have taken Peyton Hillis from Arkansas, he's a good all around guy. Of course with work his blocking will improve so we'll have to see. Here are a few lines about his blocking off NFL.com. I will note that I'm a little biased being a big Mike Sellers fan. Big Mike needs to regain his focus and get better this season.
"Not physical on contact and seldom able to control and finish when asked to block vs. bigger defensive linemen...Makes an inconsistent effort to quickly reach the second level and is seldom able to gain position or control the defender (needs to stay with his blocks longer in the open field and will shy away from contact at times)....Needs to improve his overall strength, as he lacks the ideal power and body mass to be an efficient lead blocker at the next level"

On scouts.com, they say he's a decent blocker, but may get overwhelmed by physically larger DEs and SLBs, so is he really a downgrade from Sellers? They also say that he's good at taking good angles (something Sellers is weak at) and good at blocking at the second level. Yes, Sellers is much larger, but he really is weak at sustaining blocks and taking good angles. Davis could push him if that's what the Skins want to do with him.

The correct Redskins term is "Earn Their Feathers". But, it means the same really.
Just to correct myself.
