I particularly enjoyed this quote from his brother:
And like I said, I haven't talked to him yet, but I know him. And knowing Frederick the way I do, he was probably just out late and he overslept, he probably just didn't hear the alarm.

lets hope he gets it under control. I mean if he was out late last night before the summer and before the season starts, whats he going to do when we crush the cowgirls:)?
im just kidding, i hope this is a simple 1 time incident where a rookie made a mistake and he learns from it. THese guys are just learning what it takes to be a PRo football player. THe details, the approach, the preperation, etc. Hopefully he learned his lesson and there is no real harm.

With all due respect RW, what does he have at stake exactly? Skins will be hard-pressed to cut a 3rd rounder because he missed a practice...he knows he's getting paid and was out partying it up most likely. A dumb move, but unless he does something negative that's far more newsworthy, he ain't going anywhere IMO.
And thus begins the LOOOOOOONG wait for training camp, where we will be scrounging for anything, however minor, to read about the Skins:rolleyes:

he was a 2nd rounder, but i get your point. what he has at stake is his NFL career, and lots of money, and his reputation. right or wrong, perception is often 90% of reality.

He gets no free pass from me if it was an oversleeping problem. We all know the implication of being out too late, he needs to shape up. This is inexcusable and he will be in the doghouse for awhile.
On the other hand, this is an early opportunity for Zorn to crack the whip a little bit. He has to be concious of the precedent this could set.

I'd rather have someone who plays on the field, but disappears off of it(Davis) than players who disappear on the field(Groves/Campbell). Davis doesn't have any history of this that I can find, so I'm not going to read too much into this unless he does it again.

Unfortunately my friend, he does:
When he returned to USC late after going home during a school break, Coach Pete Carroll suspended Davis for the 2005 Orange Bowl, which the Trojans won, 55-19, completing their run to an undefeated season and the national championship.
Davis considered leaving USC, but his mother, Margo, told him USC wasn't the problem.
"He had some growing up to do, and he had to learn that on his own," she said. "Mama couldn't teach him and daddy couldn't teach him. The homesickness, going out to California and having to acclimate to a big city as opposed to Toledo, a small town, and not knowing anybody out there . . . it was hard for him and it was hard for me, too.
"But he finally grasped it. He finally said, 'Hey, this is my life. This is my future.'

Now cmon there smoak, that's taking it a bit far... A player oversleeping during mini-camp is the reason we haven't won in years (despite having two winning seasons in the last 3 years).
Regardless, he'll get the third degree from Zorn, as he should, and probably shape up. Not a huge deal, but he needs to think it is.

its about attitude not the fact that he overslept. this team has been rife with players who put everything ahead of football. music careers, social life, etc.

i hope Zorn does something about this. this is where you make a choice to either send a message, or you let it slide. this kid basically skipped work on his 3rd day at a new job. i cannot imagine doing that.
and you know what? i dont buy this "didnt hear the alarm" crap either. if you dont hear the alarm, how long can you stay in bed? all day? you cant just be a little late, but rather you miss an entire day? you wake up an hour late and you just say screw it, i'll stay home all day, the Redskins will let it slide?

I agree. It is all about attitude and priorities in this case and his actions show an above the law mentality to me. To me it is clear that priorities are out of order when someone misses their 3rd day of work on a new job b/c they overslept due to partying or something along those lines. Hopefully this is a one time thing, but even so I think the Skins should take action to set a precedent and send Davis a bit of a reality check.

I absolutely agree with you, smoak, and Rich.
Besides, even if you do decide to go to sleep late (which is really retarded the night before your third practice ever), then either have someone physically wake you up on time, or put like 5 different alarms or something.
There are ways of being on time in places even if you don't get a whole lotta sleep....

I agree. Plus, if he really wants to do this and be good at it, then he should want to be there. As corny as it sounds, he should be excited about showing what he can do. Its not like he's a 10 year vet with very little left to prove. Bottom line is this would not have happened to me, so I can't give him a pass.

Then there was second-round pick Fred Davis. He couldn't sleep Saturday night because his roommate wouldn't shut up. So he went to the desk of the hotel and asked for a different room. He slept until 11 a.m., and the team couldn't find him because he wasn't in the right room. Zorn wants his players alert -- but Fred, tell the roommate to shut up and don't forget the wakeup call.
For those concerned that Davis was up partying late at night and acting flagrantly immature, perhaps its time to extinguish the torches and put the pitchforks back in the shed.
Sounds like he was actually trying to do the responsible thing and get some sleep for practice, just forgot to put in the wake-up call. A mistake? Absolutely. Still his responsibility? Absolutely. Forgivable offense? Absolutely.

Stupid and hopefully a mistake ..........
That being said - IF I were an owner who had BILLIONS of dollars and I've had a major investment called the Redskins ..... Dern IF I wouldnt have a dorm complex built ON or NEXT to my "Facility" for all those my players that need a place to stay for off season training. Specially ROOKIES!
The dorm complex is only about 5 minutes away from Redskins Park. Probably about a mile and a half away as the crow flies.
Lets not forget that he hasnt been on the east coast very long. It could be very likely he is not used to the time change. 11am est time is 8am PST, so its not out of the realm of possibility that he overslept until 11 am.Is there an echo in here?

Only consequence I hope comes of this is his teammates consistently leaving alarms in his locker.

what are the possibilites here
-he got drunk and weeded out therfore he overslept
- he just overslept
- He doesn't wanna be a skin and is protesting
- he has an actual bird in the cuckoo clock and the bird forgot
I wouldn't think its a big deal.

"He [Davis] couldn't sleep Saturday night because his roommate wouldn't shut up. So he went to the desk of the hotel and asked for a different room. He slept until 11 a.m., and the team couldn't find him because he wasn't in the right room."

Well think God, we didn't draft Calias Campbell at #48, oh wait, my bad. This is so ridiculous, does he think he is above the team. This is professional football, not a college party. I hope he really thinks about his actions. If he wants to party and not play, then I don't want him. He is just lucky Gibbs isn't here this year. I hope the team hazes him bad. Tape him to the goal posts for at least a day. Why did we draft an immature child, we could have gotten one of the better DE's in the draft, but we couldn't deviate from the board.

In the wake of the "Where in the World is Fred Davis" scandal, the Skins have fired their director of security.

1-Calais Campbell's laziness makes Fred Davis look like a Marine Drill Instructor.
2-Do you have any proof that Davis was out partying?
3-Campbell wasn't one of the best DEs in the draft.

i am not surprised at all. Davis could have died of a heart attack, or had some incident like Lefotu last year. it should have taken about 5 minutes to get him. i dont care if he switched rooms, the front desk had to have his name and room number.

That's under the assumption that Davis' story was the truth. I don't buy it, I think he was out all night and probably snuck into another room, under a different name that morning. That would explain why he was unable to be found, a lot better than his story.
Regardless, the security guy needs to know who enters and leaves the building and when.

now that you mention it, i agree, there has to be more to this story. it is simply unfathomable to not know where your 2nd round pick is until 11:00 AM.
