As many of you have no doubt read, Reed Doughty's 21-month old son, Micah (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/04/AR2008050401640.html), is running a fever and has been hospitalized. Fever can be a sign of rejection in a transplant patient, so this could be quite serious. Since he is no doubt on immunosuppresant drugs, it is fairly serious even if it is "just" an infection.

As if that weren't enough, the WaPo reports that Dan Snyder has announced (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/04/AR2008050402238.html?tid=informbox)that his wife, Tanya, has just been treated for breast cancer.

To paraphrase Coach Zorn today when speaking of Micah, if you are a praying man (or woman) now would be a good time to say a few words for Micah and Tanya.

I will keep Micah Doughty and Tanya Snyder in my prayers for full and speedy recoveries. That is very tough news.

Prayers to the Doughty family and to the Snyder family as well.

Is there a link to this latest development on Micah Doughty's condition? I was unaware of this news.

Did they say what kind of transplant? for which organ?

My daughter suffered for 16 years like that. It is hard. Prayers are always welcomed. and thus will pay it forward.

My prayers to both the Snyder and Doughty family. Also esmith1790, prayers to you as well. I believe God hears every prayer, and answers every prayer. Unfortunately it sometimes is not the answer we want, or the timing is not right for us etc. If if is His will, we will get our prayers answered how we want, but when He wants..... sometimes it is paid forward like you say.

My bad, guys, I have updated the original post with a link.

Micah had a kidney transplant with an organ from his mother. He is 21 months old and has been re-admitted to the hospital. My mother is a transplant coordinator at the Medical College of Virginia, so I have some appreciation of the kind of treatment Micah is getting. Hopefully they can adjust the dosage on his drugs and tune him up to be as right as rain.

God bless, E. I didn't realize that radiant little girl in your sig was your daughter.

Good news from the Micah front anyway . . .

Reed Doughty was back at Redskins Park on Monday, but his heart was with his son Micah.
Doughty left Redskins mini-camp on Sunday to go to a local hospital to be with Micah, who developed a fever over the weekend.

Micah underwent a kidney transplant earlier this year, complicating matters.

It turned out that Micah's fever was unrelated to the transplant. As of Monday afternoon, Micah's condition had improved. He is expected to be released from the hospital in a day or two.

Still it was a scary couple of days for Doughty and his wife Katherine.

Micah's temperature topped out at 105.8. Because of the transplant, he is not able to fight viruses

"It was scary when he got the fever, because that could mean an infection, but we got his blood worked on and we knew it was a certain virus," Doughty said. "At that point, we knew it wasn't [related to] his kidneys.

Esmith, I can't help but be touched by your quiet revelation. I'm not particularly religous, but the magnitude of what you've shared has touched me deeply and certainly relegates any type of debate related to sports meaningless. I'd just like to say I respect your courage more than any written words I can convey and for what little it matters in the grand scheme of things I liked to attempt to offer my sincerest empathy.

Thank you for sharing such a personal experience. Moments like this make me strive to become a better person.
