View Full Version : 100% participation at OTAs
talk about encouraging...sounds like the team has bought into what Zorn is selling.
The Redskins had 100 percent attendance on the first day of OTAs under Zorn. . . . Defensive lineman Kedric Golston (sprained right ankle) was at the complex but did not participate in activities on the field.

Glad to see that. I wonder how other NFL teams made out in voluntary particpation...
On a relieving side note...Micah Doughty's temperature has fallen back to normal after hitting 105.8 degrees.

That's nice to hear. It's what we should hear...and a good sign.

Not to derail, but that is so encouraging to hear.... I was actually afraid to click on the thread for the update...
I'm happy about the participation. I hope it translates on the field.

Say what you want about Zorn's inexperience, but this is the first year in awhile that I can remember that the skins had 100% attendance at the OTAs.

I agree and while I'm as big a Gibbs fan as there is...I really like this guy. Also glad to hear about Micah...get better soon lil' Doughty

This is good news being that a lot of our guys have had excuses in the past. It's good to hear these guys are taking this team seriously year round, not just when we are in a close game or something. I hope my feeling of "This might be our year" is not just because of my love for this franchise. These guys are gonna remain close and gel even faster now. Lets just hope all this participation translates on to the field this season.

sounds like a bunch of "character guys"

It might be just me but the guys seem alittle bit more energized for coach Zorn. I get the sense that some of the stuff with Coach Gibbs was kinda grating on the guys alittle. That Zorn's offense and personality is something the players actually like.
Not saying its gonna work but it does appear that guys are generally excited by Zorn.

OTAs stands for Offseason Training Activities in case anyone was wondering. I looked it up.

Glad to hear that there are no players who decided they want to train on their own or at "the U".
I think this pre-season and TC will be tougher than under Gibbs II. Zorn has no safety net of being a HOF coach. He's got to prove himself NOW.

I don't know if I can recall a time when we had 100% participation. I think that speaks a lot for the team's character and their belief in their new Head Coach. While I have no evidence to back this up, from everything I've read, heard, and seen from Coach Zorn, he's impressed the heck out of me. I think this guy knows what he's doing whether he acts like it or not, and I think he's gonna do a helluva good job. That's just my gut feeling....I could easily turn out to be full of poopy!

(this is the Davis punishment article...the quote is under the Redskins notes)Love it. The whole team needs to be there to learn the system and to get a feel for the coaching staff.

One thing that really has my interest peaked right now is some of the video that NFL.com has on the Skins OTA or mini-camp.
There is some video of Zorn working with Campbell, which in and of itself is promising.
But the best part of it is Campbell's throwing motion. Check THIS LINK (http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80834a20) around time 00:35 and compare Campbell's arm motion to his arm motion in THIS VIDEO (http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d8078c72e) around time 01:37. To me, it appears that his arm motion is not dropping down below his waste in the Zorn video, whereas in the game video he displays that long wind up that coaches and prognosticators have criticized since day one. The ball drops below his waste prior to delivery, and slows down his release.
Is Zorn doing good by monkeying with Campbell's mechanics, or is this a case where too much meddling will interfere with Campbell's game, as Bram Weinstein seems to suggest in his blog (http://coveringtheredskins.blogspot.com/2008/05/april-8-live-from-bristol.html).

As much as I like Campbell, Zorn has a track record of success with guys like Hasselback. I'll trust him to make changes to Campbell's motion.

I'm hoping that the changes will help with his accuracy in the short to medium passing game. There was some commentary from either Zorn or Campbell about how standing tall in the pocket can sometimes cause over-throws in this area.
Bram's a winer.

I'm curious... has Zorn be successful developing a QB other than Hasselbeck? I hear a lot about how great he is with QB's, but I don't know of any other one.

He turned Seneca Wallace from basically a WR into an interesting QB prospect.

Wasn't Seneca a college QB already though? Not to take away from Zorn, I just don't want people to think he was always a WR to begin with.

Those are great vids. Thanks for posting them. If history is any indication, Jason will respond very well to this kind of detailed coaching from Z. His then new offensive coord. at Auburn, Al Borges, changed his game in his senior year and turned him into a first-rounder. This is really a huge moment in Jason's NFL career, and his ability and willingness to absorb direction from coaches is helpful.
