While a number of speakers -- such as Railroad Commission chairman Michael Williams and Mike Huckabee -- have praised the advance of Barack Obama and what it means towards a colorblind society, at least one vendor hasn't gotten the message.

At the Republican state convention, a booth hosted by Republicanmarket was selling a pin Saturday that says: If Obama is President will we still call it the White House.

There were other pins that weren't necessarily conveying the positive, inclusive, united front that has been portrayed during the convention. One said, "Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Deportation" and another, "I will hold my nose when I vote for McCain

I would actually think the Obama folks would make those pins to be funny.

I don't know these people at republicanmarket but if they are trying to make race a campaign issue they should be slapped upside the head. If they are trying to be funny, I think they could do better. You've said controversial things that are substantially more clever than this.

That didn't take long. This company is banned from Republican events. Good for them.

Unfortunatley, race is going to be a big issue in this election. It already is.

I know it is. But I'm making the distinction between individuals and an institution. There is something more sinister about people collaborating on this as a campaign technique rather than individuals just thinking it. The Texas leadership rejected that so I'm happy. Better late than never.

I'm far less worried about whatever this fringe group is doing to foster racism than mainstream GOP groups, officials and commentators. Wasn't it Michelle Malkin who said the fist bump in your avatar was a terrorist signal? She's a maistream columnist. I've seen 60 year old bankers make this same signal after sinking a putt to win a $2 Nassau, which I am pretty sure had nothing to do with jihad. Michelle Malkin has undoubtably done this herself, knows this has nothing to do with terrorist sympathy, but tosses it out there anyway. Folks such as her are the dangerous ones when fomenting racism is the issue.

I can think of another mainstream Republican group that tried to perpetuate the terrorist fist bump garbage. At this point in time it helps Obama more than it hurts him but I still hate to see it.
