Maybe its way to early to ask opinions, but i have too. In 4 years when Thomas, Kelly, and Davis are eligible for free agency will we be able to afford all of them if they all start out with great careers? If Thomas and Kelly both become stud Wr's, how does the front office afford to pay them both huge contracts. I know its still too early because no one knows what can happen in that amount of time but it has to be of concern somewhat. I wonder if that was ever on the front office's mind when they were negotiating. Eager to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

If there's no cap(which is a distinct possibility), we'll have no problems keeping all of them. If there is a cap, they'll give them tender offers for their 5th years(they would probably be RFAs, depending on the CBA) and Davis is probably the odd man out with Cooley holding a big deal.
However: I doubt that all of them will be star players. Even if the skins dump Moss and ARE, they'll still have to compete for balls with Portis and Cooley.

Unless Campbell turns into Peyton Manning and our offense turns into the Colts, that is definitely the case.

It would be very nice for our rookies to turn out to be big stars.........In the event that they do I am sure that the contracts will be staggered and more than likely a few veteran players contracts will get reworked..........
This is what would happen in a perfect world............

I think they will try to resign them after their 3rd year before they hit the open market. Players typically will sign those deals so that they don't risk and injury in their final year of their contract and miss out on a big pay day. The Eagles have had some sucess at doing this with their good players. The club saves money on the cap down the road by resigning their own good players. I think it is usually cheaper to keep the players you have than to lure a top noch free agent.

Except for when you have to pay quality homegrown players the same as the top notch free agents....

Man, you are putting your worry cap on a little early, aren't you?
First, it is against the law of average that all three would turn out to be star players. Second, by that time, some older players (e.g Moss, ARE, Jansen, Thomas, Washington, Fletcher, Griffin, Portis, Carter, Springs, even Samuels) with the bigger contracts may be on the way out if not gone already. Third, the cap increases every year. Fourth, due to the likelihood the current labor contract may be shortened, there may not even be a cap by then, as AKH pointed out.

Don't you think the Cooley contract was a "relative bargain" considering the crazy money that free agents have got the last few seasons?

He got more than Jason Witten(very little more) and 6 million more than Antonio Gates. So, to your point: a homegrown star player will end up costing as much as a pricey free agent.

Let's worry about this later... cause if one (or more) of these guys doesn't perform up to expectations or their potential, we may not care that the get signed. Heck, a lot of the big money vets now on the team will be gone in 4 yrs... there may be cap space for them in the future.
