View Full Version : What on offense are you looking forward to?

I'd just put this topic out there and see what kind of discussions can come up.
I'm looking forward to the two TE sets that Zorn will be using with Davis and Cooley. With Kelly and Moss as the WR, and Portis as the only back. To me, it seems to be kind of dynamic with so many options for TE. Who do you double? Moss? Cooley? That would leave Davis and Kelly 1 on 1, which more times than usual, they should win.
With all of the added receiving weapons the Skins added, i'm also interested to see how the running game will be this year. It seemed that the O was more effective with one back, instead of two, but I know the west coast offense is usually a base 2 WR, 1 TE, FB, and RB. I wonder how much of a wrinkle Zorn is gonna do with the O.

Personally I would to Portis become more a pass/reciever option than he has been in the past.....

Seconded.
I would love to see a screen pass to a Running Back or a quick slant pattern. Something completely conspicuous by their absence the past 4 years.

Looking for JC to have better pass protection enabling him to find his increased array of targets.

I'm just looking for more points. I think we have alot of options that should enable us to keep the chains moving and a real offensive philosphy in the red Zone instead of Gibb's protect the fg mindset we've had in the past.
A big question in my mind is does Portis have the energy to make enough explosive plays without the tipped passes and fumbles of a tired rb to make the system work. I expect he could have huge numbers with 60 catches and his typical 1200+ rush yards. But will tired mistakes kill us by him being forced into a less rest more action role.
I'm very anxious to see the youngsters develop, and am curious to see if last season was typical Moss or is he ready for a bounce back year.

A 350 page playbook...
Honestly? I just want to see consistent improvement week over week. I am not expecting miracles in week 1.

Absolutely... Our Beloved Team needs to get past the "21 and Under" syndrome that has plagued them in the years past. I look to see the offense open it up - a little less conservative play calling! Not being and X and O guy I can only hope Coach Zorn has the conviction and courage to push the Team to gamble - take a shot and see what happens.

I'm looking forward to an attacking offense that doesn't try to sit on a 1 or 2 score lead or settle for FG's.

I want to see the passing game improve. Would be cool for JC to take the next step and have a few 300 yard passing games. Also want to see the rookies contribute and take some of the heat off Santana.

a modern day offense, that utilizes our players talents, instead of pigeon holing them into an offense that is not suited for their talents.

I want to see an offense that doesn't stall once it gets to the 20 yard line, which means I hope we only see Shaun Suisham on kick-offs.

Most of you have summed it up quite well. I'm looking forward to an offense that won't try to sit on a 1 or 2 score lead.

A strong, healthy OLine first and foremost.
Csmpbell turning the corner.
Basically, an offense that's actually fun to watch, that I at least FEEL can get in the endzone each time they take over, even if they don't. Haven't had that in many years...

Jason Cambpell in the same scheme for 2+ years in a row!
Scoring in the redzone!
Remaining aggressive after building a lead!
Portis in a scheme suited to his style!
Drafting more linemen next year!
Seeing if Marcus Mason is the real deal!
A decisive coach who doesn't waste timeouts in gaggles everytime there is an important decision!

I'm a fan of Portis so anything that has the ball in his hands more often is entertaining to me. I just love to see that guy with the ball.

I want to see an end to the predictable play calling. No more run up the middle on first, run up the middle on 2nd, pass on 3rd and 5, punt on 4th and 1. Mix it up a little! Give me 4 wide with Portis in the backfield on 1st down to keep the defense honest. Once we can eliminate the predictability it will keep the opposing defense guessing and unable to put 8 or 9 guys in the box on first down for fear of getting beaten over the top.
That is doubly true for the red zone! Every single time we got to the 5 yard line the last 4 years it was line up in jumbo formation and try to pound it in the first 2 downs, try a pass to a triple covered Cooley on 3rd, then either kick a 20 yard field goal or fail to convert on 4th and goal. I want to see 4 wide here as well on 1st down with Thomas, Kelly, Cooley, and Davis all running routes and Portis in the backfield to take a draw. Use the fact that Campbell is 6'5" to our advantage. He's tall enough to see over the O-line and find the open receiver in the end zone and athletic enough to take off and run for it if nothing is there.
I want to see an offense that doesn't stall once it gets to the 20 yard line, which means I hope we only see Shaun Suisham on kick-offs.

Other than a healthy team, what I want to see from the offense this year is consistent execution, which translates into the ability to move downfield, converting the majority of CRITICAL 3rd downs and having one of the top five red zone TD conversion percentages in the league.
A lot to ask for. But when you look at last year it was the inability to convert so many 3rd downs that kept our defense on field way too much. How many games did we lose last year even though we had a lead in 4th quarter? Further, we were anemic in the red zone. Not being able to convert from 1 yard out against the Giants was THE play (actually plays) that epotimized the Redskins offense for most of the season. Collins and Portis took some of the stinging away.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess 3...just a hunch though. :D

i believe that in the past the thing that has hurt our offense the most are Injuries and Red Zone efficiency.
We seem to have, in the past 4 years, be able to move the ball up and down the field, but once we get in the redzone we seem to stall.
Injuries, well santana goes down, and you see how our offense changes. Oline gets hurt, and any team, not just us, will have a hard time being productive.
So the ONE thing i would most want to see is Red Zone efficiency drastically improve. i don't care if we run it every down in there, or go 4 wide with all TE, as long as it gets in the endzone.
We can't do much with the injuries, we are just stuck in a huge spin of bad luck with injuries/plays (not to mention gibbs retire and the loss of the great one.)
