Defense maybe Hamilton just for the well timed forced fumble.

This kid Mason is really impressing me. I mean, I expect it from a kid from DC ;) but this guy is really getting it done. I wanna see him take some reps in a preseason game with the 1st team; just to see how real he really is.

If he continues to ball out against 1st and 2nd stringers, I say trade Betts, eat the cap hit, move Mason to #2 and let's continue to make it happen. Let's take a chance, even if it is a significant one. But in the end we may end up with a 2nd and/or a 3rd/4th rounder. Betts fumbles too much anyway.

I hope I'm not too far off topic with my commentary Mods.

Hey the D did not give up a TD when Special Teams coffed up the ball and gave us good field position on the next series as well.

I thought Betts looked really good too.

offense betts.. ran with passion and skill..as did mason
also, the reserve o linemen who manhandled their reserve counterparts almost all game

defense sinclair played well in the second half. richardson looked solid. hamilton was decent. fincher hit whenever he could

none of the d linemen dominated, although taylor made his opponents nervous and monty and the rest of the interior linemen made running inside very tough

I didn't get to see the game, though listened to some on radio. Right now, if you're coach, is Mason on the roster, and is it as 4th RB, or does someone get the axe?

Thanks for opinions.

Betts looked better than Portis, which is more convinving to me every time I see it. I still say his 1,100 yards-in-8-game rushing performance several seasons ago was the best a Skins back has looked in the modern era.

Fincher stood out on defense. Askew had a batted ball. And I think Richardson is looking like our best bubble corner. All I know is that I feel a hellluva lot better with him back there than Westbrook.

Sinclair had a few key hits. And how about Hamilton for stepping it up with little practice time?

On offense, of course Mason. Then Betts and McMullen. I wish we kept Colt in for at least half the 4th quarter. We have more to gain by giving him playing time under fire than having Devine do mop up duties.

Portis lacked explosion, looked real heavy on his feet, Betts looked spry after playing terrible last season nothing like having Mason light the fire under Betts.

overall this game was rather uneventful. Taylor and Carter looked like they were getting their 1st action. None of the young guys really flashed except Mason running.

Offense with JC looked organized and efficient. I wanna see the long ball though or teams will run their db's to press coverage.

I do think Richardson looks like a good project at corner we could develop on practice squad this season. Moore looks athletic and fast but wasn't in position to make any plays.

i really like mason.. if he has even a crease, he makes something happen.
he has great vision in the hole and is clearly a lot faster than rock.

where rock has an obvious advantage is on special teams. for years rock has been very solid in coverage units. and he is dependable in returning KO's.. he wont be breaking anything long but i dont think he has a fumble as a returners

but both betts and thrash have experience returning KO's.. as do tryon and thomas (not gonna happen) and mason

i just dont see us carrying 2 FB's or 4 RB's.. so i think it will come down to either rock or mason.. with gibbs it was a slam dunk. but i dont know how zorn fails to see how much better a runner mason is.. then again, i doubt seriously we go beyond portis and betts getting carries once the real season starts.... but i will also bet you that the giants never figured ahmad bradshaw was going to get touches as a running back last year.

right now, i think that richardson looks like a better player to me than tryon.. but no way they take a free agent over a 4th round pick. my guess is that richardson gets a spot on the PS and tryon becomes either the dime corner or 5th corner.. unless he learns far better technique, his height is going to be a serious career limiter because his speed is nothing special.. and he looks
very ordinary as a kick returner. he runs into the first pile and goes down with contact easily

Portis just ran safe.....He did not lack anything, just wait and see Sept. 4 against the G-nots.

Agreed. In a meaningless game I could care less if he didn't go 100% on a certain play so he didn't get hurt. Who can blame him?

Its a no brainer to me.... although I do think mason is running better then Rock by a long shot... it comes down to roster spots.... Rock is essential on SP and is servicable as runningback...sorry to say but mason will be on another roster.

offense --- ZORN

defense --- they played BETTER then last week... give them that

..........notice one thing.........

The WRs are catching everything and running after the catch. The throws are on stride and I am just not used to seeing that.

Yeah, that's exactly the right way to put it. Ran very safe. Nothing wrong with that. I have no concerns about how he'll look in the regular season. All word this offseason has been about how he's in the best shape of his Redskin career.

And Betts was the offensive player of the game by a clear margin, I believe. Jason also did a good job of keeping that first scoring drive going despite two ten yard penalties. He's looking really sharp in Zorn's WCO for having only played in it for a few weeks.

On D, just give it to everyone. They all did pretty darn well. One TD given up and that came off a turnover deep in our own territory. Good show there.

I'm sure if any olineman go down he will be first off the bench with the way he is playing.

Ladell Betts - Has taken his fair share of criticism, not least from me but looked great and ready to go last night.

First Possession D - Held Buffalo to 3 points when starting just outside our own 20.
