Redskins, Zorn Build Momentum (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/09/AR2008080902330.html)
Navigating the preseason with as few injuries as possible is the top priority on every team's to-do list at this time of the year, and Washington received a scare when wide receivers Antwaan Randle El and Anthony Mix went into the locker room for X-rays. The receiving corps is thin because rookies Devin Thomas (hamstring) and Malcolm Kelly (arthroscopic knee surgery) have missed considerable time in training camp. Fortunately for the Redskins, Randle El (right forearm injury) and Mix (bruised ribs) did not break bones, the team announced.
For me, this is the best news to come out of the game.

Wideout Mix Will Miss a Week After Breaking Rib vs. Buffalo (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/10/AR2008081002350.html)
Anthony Mix suffered a broken rib during Saturday's 17-14 preseason win over Buffalo, making his the Redskins' only new injury concern. The reserve wide receiver will miss at least one week. Coach Jim Zorn expects several other players to return for Saturday's game against the Jets, with safety LaRon Landry (hamstring) and wide receiver Devin Thomas (hamstring) among them.

Rookie safety Chris Horton, who missed the game with a colon infection, will be reevaluated this week, as will return specialist-running back Rock Cartwright, who has a rib injury. Landry and Thomas are scheduled to return to full practice this week and could face the Jets. Thomas was Washington's first pick in April's draft (taken in the second round), but has not been on the field since the first week of camp.
??? Ok, I guess the news was not that good? Horton needs to get back on the field as I feel we are a better team with him flying to the ball.

Awkward Moments Are Lessons Learned for the Understudy (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/10/AR2008081000003.html)
The veteran backup quarterback, the toast of the town as recently as January, is now a work in progress. And with his second-string status behind Jason Campbell comes certain occupational hazards, such as relying on a preponderance of novice linemen to keep his 36-year-old legs planted firmly on the ground against the Buffalo Bills in a preseason game at FedEx Field.

No longer the prized pupil of the Redskins' offense -- Collins had spent eight years mastering former offensive coordinator Al Saunders's infinite playbook -- he is feeling his way through Coach Jim Zorn's system, same as everyone else. It's an inherently awkward process: Collins bristled at some of Zorn's unorthodox drills and teaching tools this offseason, team sources said, and struggled in the opening weeks of training camp.
I love Collins and I appreciate him for the stretch run in '07, but to me, bringing him back for 2008 was the single biggest mistake we made in the offseason. At this rate, I am not comfortable with our chances if Campbell isn't in there.

Portis, Betts Impress During Opening Half (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/10/AR2008081000004.html)
Betts ran for 41 yards on five carries, Portis had 18 yards on seven attempts, and each scored a touchdown during the Washington Redskins' 17-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills last night at FedEx Field.

Portis didn't play past the first quarter, and Betts didn't play after the second. For Zorn, however, their play was a welcome sight after both missed last Sunday's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

"Very impressed with our run game," Zorn said. "I was really excited that Clinton Portis came in. You watch as you see the suddenness of his moves, and his ability to move and then re-accelerate, you can see what kind of a special back he really is.
Its offfical. Mason is my "Lumsden"... If we cut that kid, I am going to be FURIOUS. Sitting in the upper deck endzone, I got a great view of how he consistently makes one cut and gets going north-south... We need to carry four HBs and get Mason on the field once in awhile.

Landry's Preseason Debut Will Wait Another Week (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/09/AR2008080901865.html)
But Landry's hamstring tightened last week, and the Redskins held him out again. Landry, who is expected to resume full participation in practice this week, hopes to play against the New York Jets on Saturday at Giants Stadium.

Washington's coaching staff, however, plans to take things slowly with Landry for the remainder of the preseason.

"We're going to be smart about this," safeties coach Steve Jackson said. "I would rather have him back when he's ready to be back. I'd rather make sure he's 100 percent than force him to come back, and then it gets to be an extended" absence.
Smart, but I have to admit I am worried... We'll need him all season if we're going to be even "middle of the pack" on defense.

Frost remains confident in his abilities (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/aug/10/frost-remains-confident-in-his-abilities/)
"From a competitive standpoint, it was hard to sit there and watch someone else do all the punting," Frost said. "I know what I'm capable of doing, and if I do that, I don't think the decision will take that long to make. I'm a gamer. I've shown I'm good enough to play in this league.

"There are things I can bring to this team that he can't - directional punting. I have the ability to stop people from scoring [with a tackle] when there's a breakdown in coverage, and I pride myself on my consistency as a holder."
Uhhh. Rrrrriiiigggghhhhhtttttt.

It's a numbers game for reserve linemen (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/aug/11/its-a-numbers-game-for-reserve-linemen/)
Redskins line coach Joe Bugel's extra work with the second line last week paid dividends against the Bills.

"Coach Buges kept us out there after practice after the [starters] went in throughout the week to prep us with some extra work," Washington said. "I think it showed in the game. After we came in and the [starters] went out, we drove it down the field and came off feeling more confident than we did going in. We really understood that what Coach Buges took us through that week was going to pay off."
I love Buges!

Feeling right at home (http://www.theredzone.org/)
Starters look sharp in Zorn's FedEx debut
Starting quarterback Jason Campbell (7-for-10, 71 yards) was sharp for a second straight week, while reserve running back Ladell Betts (five carries, 41 yards) ran like a starter. Jason Taylor and Andre Carter each had an impact in their first outing as bookend passrushers, while running back Clinton Portis scored in his first preseason game in two years, and veteran receivers Santana Moss, Antwaan Randle El (who suffered a minor wrist injury) and James Thrash all made big catches for first downs.

Redskins rookie coach gets to 'practice winning' (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8434556/Redskins-rookie-coach-gets-to-'practice-winning'?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=5)
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Rookie Redskins coach Jim Zorn has found a way to win the confidence of his players. He predicted days in advance the plays that would succeed in both of Washington's preseason victories.

"Coach Z pretty much called out the plays that were going to be the plays that stand out in the game," running back Clinton Portis said. "That's two weeks in a row. When you get that belief and that excitement, it's good to see."
The Redskins improved to 2-0 with Saturday night's 17-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills, and in both games the first-team offense had solid numbers. Starting quarterback Jason Campbell, even though he's learning a new play book, is 12-for-15 with a 125.6 rating over the two games.

Brennan impresses, but Zorn will wait (http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/sports/football.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2008-08-09-0086.html)
Redskins coach Jim Zorn said he might mix and match the quarterbacks in tonight's game. Jason Campbell will start. After that, the quarterback will depend on the situation.

"There are experiences in the games I want to give them," Zorn said. "I've got to see Colt in a two-minute drill. I've got to give him that experience."

Do not, however, take that as a sign that Zorn thinks Brennan will be in that situation in a regular-season game in 2008. Zorn wants to see nothing of the sort.

"This [the preseason] is his season, hopefully," Zorn said. "Hopefully you won't see him again until next year."
Zorn has definitely shown his ability for misdirection in the early going... But I for one hope we don't ever see Brennan under center. Campbell is my guy.

Favre Will Start Against Redskins (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/09/AR2008080901752.html)
"There were times at practice today," he said, measuring his words, "I was wondering if I made the right move."

Don't worry, Jets fans. He was joking -- sort of.

"It's been difficult," the former Packer said. "It's a pretty difficult offense to learn, and I'm sure the one I've been in the last 16 years has been difficult, too. It'll take some time, but I think we'll be fine."
As one who used to love Farve, I hope Taylor and Carter leave him with nightmares of what is to come in the '08 season.

I've got the feeling this is going to be a very boring game. Favre maybe in for a couple of series but don't expect much else. And how much of the O has he absorbed in a week +.

Brother Patrick has it right! This is all hype - especially here in the NE where the "media" is fanning the flames of fan craziness.... The J-E-T-S fans are still in shock and all they can envision is a dream that Favre will be their savior. Maybe so, but not in pre-season!
For Our Beloved Team its another game and hopefully another chance to see our 2nd and 3rd string players become more than camp fodder. Remember...27 players have to go! Yes, the J-E-T-S have an outstanding O-line and No way does # 4, even with all his experience, have the playbook down for this pre season match-up.

I'm in complete agrteement that Favre doesn't play much, but the media hype is going to be insane. With his comments, I would personally play him a half... But that is me.

I think circumstances will dictate how long Favre plays. If they struggle with a two straight three and outs, I think he stays out there. If they put together a good drive or two, there will be no reason to leave him in with another two preseason games to go.
