The Redskins Insider (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/) is reporting that WR Devin Thomas is back practicing and could see action in the next game. Also, Anthony Mix has a broken rib, not sure how accurate that is considering Zorn said he wouldn't miss much time. Erasmus James was activated from the PUP list. to make room for him the team released Kevin Huntley.

I saw somewhere else that Mix should be back w/i a week or so .... means both Zorn and RI could be right

I hope last week lit a fire under Thomas and Kelly and they both now they have something to prove. I look forward to seeing Thomas on the field on Saturday.

I hope he is really ready and doesn't just rush out there only to get injured again.

I guess we'll find out a litte about his character, toughness, and smarts.
Hope we're not disappointed on any of those.

looking forward to see the kid run a few routes against some live bullets.
Some hook routes, slant routes and in's might be all we see. jus some simple stuff.
Personally, i know i am looking forward to seeing if he has the acceleration out of his cuts that creates separation on those kinds of routes, and see how he uses his body. added bonus would be if we can get him on a crossing route and see his RAC ability.
hopefully he makes it out without getting injured or re-injury. but if the doctors say he is good, and he goes full go at practice without a setback, gotta see what the kid got a little bit.

I wanna see him after the catch he's supposed to be big time after the catch, which would be exciting.
I just hope like hell he's not soft like Taylor Jacobs.
We really need to hit on this kid might be the biggest story of the game for us.

I really would like to believe that Zorn's comments last week will light a fire under his butt.
And I agree that he is the most interesting thing about this weekend's game.
I would really like to see him in a four WR set with ARE, Moss and Thrash during the 1st quarter with the 1st team offense.

He is going to be someone to watch - I'm hoping he gets significant game time with at least 2 QBs.

It is good news to hear he can practice. Has he healed totally? He only had - what - 1 full year as WR in college?
He has speed, but the two keys I want to see from him involve: 1) Getting away from the big DB's within the first 5 yards of line of scrimmage, and 2) How well he executes the play. (This, certainly, does not mean the ability to catch and run is not important, both he proved he could do in his Junior year at Michigan State).
Draft Information:
http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/devin-thomas?id=1036
"Pound-for-pound, Thomas is one of the strongest receivers in college football. A well-built athlete with massive upper body muscle tone, Thomas not only has the strength to power through arm tackles, but also displays blazing quickness. [He did not make the top ten in NFL combine on weight lifting reps or vert leap or shuffles - based upon my research. ] Neither did Kelly]
He succeeded in a variety of roles for the Wolverines since the arrival of new head coach Mark Dantonio, who unearthed the junior's talents in 2007
By the end of his junior campaign, Thomas not only set a school single-season record with 79 receptions and ranked second in the Big Ten Conference with 1,260 yards, but he also paced the league while ranking 11th in the nation with a 29.1-yard kickoff return average.
In 23 games at Michigan State, Devin Thomas started 14 contests. He hauled in 85 passes for 1,350 yards (15.9 avg) and nine touchdowns."
It will be interesting to see if he was just a 1 year wonderflash, or is smart enough and physical enough to help the Redskins this year.
I hope both he and Kelly prove they belong.

I know one thing, i thought he was gonna play at the Bills game....he was running out there catching passes during the warmups...he and carlos were....I didn't know he was that fast....i know one thing if he runs those routes like he did while he was warming up saturday...someone is in trouble...

My hope also, but I question the involvement of a reviewer that confuses "Wolverines" (Michigan) with Michigan State (Spartans).

Mix is out (ribs).
McMullen was called out by the coach.
Moss and ARE have already been in for game sets and practice.
I bet we'll see a lot of Devon throughout the game. We'll really see what he has to offer. I also wonder if he'll play on ST.

I watched Zorn's presser on Comcast last night and he said to expect to see Devon to be on the field through out the entire game and that he would also probably return some kicks!

If he's really fast, maybe he could be a return man. If he could take rocks place on special teams, it would open up a roster spot for Marcus Mason... allowing us to keep him without taking a roster spot from our less talented, injury-plagued defense. I love Rock but its a business and I think he's become "expendable."

If Thomas has that "it" factor for PR that would really help this team out. We need a dangerous and fast punt return specialist. If Devin Thomas or Mason look good there, that would also be the end of Rock's career, because Mason has moved above him.
Rookie's who can contribute on special teams improve themselves for other aspects of their position play.

That's awesome. I get awfully bored of the preseason games in the second half sometimes, but if Devin is on the field throughout much of the game, that will definitely keep me glued to the television.

Wehn did he call McMullen out? I haven't heard anything about that..Yout got a link? All I have been hearing about McMullen is good things. Maybe I missed it.
I think Devin is going to put in some time are a returner. If he does good. I am sorry to say this..But Cartwright might be out. Especially since he's been injured. I dont think Zorn likes it when players get injured and miss valuable time. He says he likes durable players..

McMullen has fought through the soreness and leads the Redskins in preseason catches with seven receptions for 89 yards.
"He has been quiet and steady," Zorn said. "What has hurt him is his knees, and not being able to explode [with his speed] all the time. He is ready for games, but in practice he has a hard time getting up to speed because his knees are sore.
"For all these guys, they have to last," Zorn said. "Sometimes it won't be about talent. It'll be about, 'Can you stay on the field?' In today's game, with a 53 man roster, it's about having football players who have durability.
sounds like he has chronic knee problems.

McMullen dropped two balls that I saw and caught a couple.
Thomas dropped one in the air. He had a penalty. Otherwise he was invisible.
Devin did not have a good first game from what I saw.

thomas has a long way to go before he has an impact in the nfl as a receiver, or returner.
were it not for the knee surgery, i thought kelly would be far ahead of him in production this year. he still might be. i think kelly has a bigger body and has a better clue how to use it..
maybe we will get to see him in the last 2 preseason games ??
and, i know it may gall a lot of people to hear it, but from the brief amount of plays i have seen from desean jackson of philly, i think he is going to have a lot more impact for them this season than thomas will have for us.. mcnabb looks for him and he has caught most of what has been thrown his way... again, very very early but i think jackson is going to push guys like lewis and brown down the depth chart very quickly

Yeah, Desean has looked good and it worries me. McNabb will deliver him the ball if he breaks open deep. Jordy Nelson had a good game last week too.
I think Devin's feeling the effects of missing so much practice time, as he has no chemistry with the QBs yet. In time, it will come. And his near sideline grab was pretty nice, I would have liked to see it reviewed, I thought he managed to get his feet in before hitting the ground.

Devin is a project. Size and speed is all good but it is not enough at the position of WR in the pro game. There is no other position, other than QB, that takes as long to develop, on average, than WR. On top of that, Devin doesn't even have much collegiate experience and nothing prior to that, if I recall correctly.
I do believe he will be a player but he will not be a top 25 WR until year 3, at best.
He needs to work hard on special teams right now.

I agree. His route running was not exactly crisp tonight. I thought he could have done a better job to get his feet in bounds on the sideline catch. I think/hope we will see a more polished when/if Kelly gets out there.

I think it is too soon to judge the kid. We all know he is going to make the team. The biggest thing is being able to get him too contribute during the season when it matters the most. He is still a rookie with tremendous upside. Give it time.

yeah. he got by on speed and athleticism at the college level.. we all know how little that matters without precision and route running in the pros
he will take time

Exactly ......... wasn't much of a factor last night and really has only on the practice field for 3-4 days. I'm not going to put much stock into one game good or bad.
