espn is reporting that S, john lynch, recently released by the broncos has signed a 1 year deal worth 1.5 million dollars..
the pats are loading up for another run at the SB.. he might be aged, but lynch can still hit.. the only question will be if he is paired with harrison whether they are even capable of playing cover 2 ? neither one runs the way they used to, so it is either cover 3 or some other scheme...

I believe they have him slotted to play Safety/LB.
My guess is he will play in a limited run-support mode. He can't cover worth a lick anymore.

Why the pats want another old defender on their team when the last two seasons they've lost their last game because of their defense acting old and slow on final drives is beyond me.

only if there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest...

Report on the ground is that Pats fans think he is the thing that puts them over the top. Same as Junior Seau is what I told them.
Then they tell me 52-7 and I shut up.

there are plusses and minuses.. just like seau and harrison, lynch knows what it takes to win. he is highly intelligent and competitive.
but
the pats age showed in the fourth quarter against the giants. they simply couldnt get off the field on defense. you could make the case that it was younger players like samuel who muffed an easy interception or the lineman who let eli escape as being the reason.. or the poor corner who bit on plaxico's fake. and you would be right
but still, the giants put relentless pressure on brady all game and that was something the pats couldnt do to eli.
i think in the end, lynch will be an asset for much of the season, but in the long run adding more age to an old defense is not a good idea. it also points out the pats failure to add enough quality draft picks to fill their losses.
adding a guy like jimoh may not exactly be an act of desperation, but i would rather have some young guys like moore and horton and tryon vying for spots
than a guy like jimoh. and lynch ? well, he is an expensive 1 year patch job..
if they get to the SB, then it was the right call. less than that, and i dont know it is worth it..

He will pair with Ade Jimoh for one of the best pass coverage tandems in history...
oh and by the way make sure you draft Patss D high in your fantasy leagues

Agreed. Lynch cannot cover anymore and I see him and Harrison doing the same thing.

That's what I've read also. It's kind of a lot of money for such a small role in the defense, but I think Lynch can bring some punch to their run defense. I think he can still play.
This makes some sense. He won't be required to carry a full load and can spell Harrison who is a similar player (or fill-in should he get dinged or suspended again). Lynch is what he is, and Belichik prizes intelligence so I think he'll figure out how to minimize his shortcomings.
