I'm running late for work so hopefully someone can help me pick up the slack.
Redskins break training camp; no new injuries today (http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/news.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2008-08-14-0248.html)
ASHBURN For the Washington Redskins, it's 39 practices down and none to go in the 2008 training camp.
The Redskins worked out twice today, without pads, for just under two hours in the morning and just over an hour in the afternoon.
They escaped with no new injuries in either session and cut the afternoon session short by about 10 minutes over concern for a thunderstorm that appeared to be rolling into the area.
Even though the pads were off, some of the drills in the morning practice were rather physical, and Redskins coach Jim Zorn was upset about that. The person he was upset with was himself.
This is great news, but what was Zorn thinking?? This is just odd.
Springs experiments with new position (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/aug/15/safety-measures/)
Shawn Springs grew up idolizing Rod Woodson, one of the great cornerbacks of his generation.
In the latter stages of Woodson's career he switched from cornerback to safety. As Springs nears the twilight of his time in the NFL, he also may make that transition in the coming seasons.
"Rod Woodson went from 12 to 17 [years in the league] and had [23 more] picks. [Whistles] ... That would be awesome," Springs said. "I think it might be a natural transition. I've got the size for it. It's just about getting back there and getting used to it. It is still a new position."
Rogers, McIntosh will play against Jets (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/aug/15/rogers-mcintosh-will-play-against-jets/)
"I thought it was going to be September, but we put him in these drills and really watch[ed] how his knee [responded]," Zorn said. "There's been very little that we've had to do other than continue the maintenance program, continue to strengthen it. He does things full-speed in practice, so he should be just fine in the game."
That's also the feeling on McIntosh, who tore his ACL on Dec. 16 against the New York Giants. Like Rogers, he has practiced for a couple of weeks. But unlike Rogers, McIntosh declined to talk until he plays.
"We are going to play McIntosh very little," Zorn said. "Four or five plays to get in there and smack it around a little bit but very little so watch fast."
[B]Devine to start second half
Quarterbacks Jason Campbell and Todd Collins will split the first half against New York, with Campbell playing only a couple of series.
Derek Devine will start the second half, with rookie Colt Brennan finishing the game. That's not a knock on Brennan, though his performance slid considerably against the Bills after a rousing premiere against the Colts. The former Hawaii star remains a heavy favorite to win the No. 3 job over Devine, who is in his second NFL camp.
