Granted... they played awful 1st half football and dug the hole... granted we missed 2 field goals which should have been made... still we had the momentum and the drive going into overtime... by winning the coin toss I am certain Ramsey would have driven us into FG range and Hall would have kicked his much loved clinch kick!

Which opens up the much discussed debate... are the current overtime rules better then college?

The 'Skins are doing a number on themselves.... The mistakes have finally caught up with the Redskins.... The funny thing about it is this team never quits and find a way to stay in the game (as, they have won a couple).... I will say, after 3 weeks, I still believe the 'Skins are the best team in the NFC East.... Take away those miscues and this game is won going-away by the 'Skins.... I hope the team has learned a viable lesson today.... We will soon find out next week and beyond.

By the way, I've been saying for the past several years that the NFL needs to change their overtime format.... I don't want it like college (teams starting on the opponent's 25 yd. line), though.... I'd prefer a kickoff and let the each team drive the ball the length of where they get the ball after the kickoff.... Hopefully, the NFL make a change.

I've gotta agree that if we won the toss, we would have won the game. Incredibly disappointing.

I think the overtime rules need to be changed (and not just because my team lost). However, NOT the way college does it. I would like to see both teams get the ball w/ special teams included (i.e. don't give ball on x yard line). I wouldn't be against taking away the FG in overtime either.

Probably won't happen for a few more years, but I think there will be a change.

Yeah I agree as well that if we had one the toss, we would have won the game. No matter though, we need to play defense and there is no way that someone lets Shockey get that open. No way.

We were also 17 stupid penalties away. This team is explosive and can play great defense, but one thingis getting clearer and clearer, they are STILL undisciplined and a STUPID team. They simply dont knwo how to play smart football. It's a plague thathas been with this franchise for years. The Ginats were clearly IMO, not the better team, that was pretty clear. 17 penalties will KILL any team. Giants did not have tobeat us when we beat ourselves.

I agree with that. I don't know what they're doing but it isn't working. Somebody needs to get into Spurrier's ear about how to fix it.

College system is better.

PSF is right we were not a coin toss away from 3-0 we were a disciplined team away from 3-0, maybe the college system of discipline works better in this regard too.

Well we can't argue about the way the system is now, and if it hurt the Skins or not. Its part of the system...and we have to deal with it.

I was actually happy the Giants won the toss, since I expected our D to shut them down and get a punt return in good field position. But, our D didn't get it done.

I am not a big fan of the college system. I think too many games would then take 5 hours to complete...and with all the extra playing time, we could see more injuries...

In the NFL...if you win the toss, your Offense better step up. If you lose the toss, your Defense better step up.

Penalties are not part of this system and that is why Spurrier is so infuriated with them. Action has to be taken and pure and simply, the only way you can get points across is to sit people for a few series. If Samuels continues to hold and get blown away, put Dockery in the game. Shock him back to reality. If Trotter is gonna make bonehead hits, sit him a few series and put Mitchell in. IT HAS TO STOP! This team is good enough to win any football game it plays dammit!

If we won the toss and the game on the first drive of OT, would we want the OT rules to be changed?

The college rules are more fun, but the NFL does not want these games to go on forever and the sudden death rule makes sense. I think the networks would object, too, since keeping games at 3 hours is important to them. Remember that the networks only sell enough ads for a regulation game so they don't make much [if any] money in ads from overtime games. A college system, with overtime lasting half an hour or an hour, would be something the networks would loathe. I guarantee you that the NFL does not make a single important rule change without clearing it with the networks first.

I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with how the NFL's overtime rules work. The point of the game is to win in the 1st 60 minutes...period. The Skins didn't deserve to be in OT yesterday...they were very undisciplined (too many penalties, and even worse, way too many drops on totally catchable throws) and were only in it because the Giants don't know how to put a team away.

of course, when you lose in overtime you say it should be changed...but if you win, its all good. with all that said, they need to be left alone. there is NO way our defense, which had not given up a point in the 2nd half should have let the giants drive from the 8 damn yard line to kick the game-winning fg....no way....

I agree with BDB, I hate overtime games, it's all about the flip of a coin, this game should have gone down as a tie. Giants would have "tied" Dallas last week as well. Then the league could figure it out at the end of the season by points or games won against div. opponent. or something like that.
