After a 1 year break my son Isaiah is back on the field battling for an Outside linebacker spot at KLM....
If your child is playing a sport this fall drop a line as to what sport, what team and an update on how he,she is doing...
But please note i am not coaching this year....just wanna be a proud dad...

How old is your son? I ask because my 13 y/o nephew is playing for the Howard County Bruins and will be playing the Cougars twice this year. I also have 12 y/o and 5 y/o nephews playing tackle and flag football respectively, for the HC Terps.

he's 13 as well, but he's playing 95lb....now we have an unlimited team as well...these kids are generally 220+ at 13. mostly kids that are really overweight play in this league...

Yeah, I've heard. My nephew is 6'0" 158, so he is playing in this league now so he doesn't have to worry about making weight each week. I'm new to this league, so I guess I'll get used to the restrictions and what not sooner or later. The only problem I have, is that he plays alot of games on Sunday, thats no good, lol....

Well, I guess its about that time for me to start participating in this forum. lol.
We signed up our 3.5 yo for soccer. It isnt an official team; as its more about having fun in a group with a soccer ball, and zero competition involved. Regardless, I think my daughter will really enjoy it.

Personal coaching? Yes! Team coaching? Hell No!
I don't have the patience to coach a group of little kids. I'll leave that up to the experts. :)

Well guys and gals...it looks like Isaiah is gonna be sent down to the AA team. the AAA coach is keeping all of his kids he won the Superbowl with last year...he mentiond to me that he doesnt plan on keeping anymore kids other than the 18 he won with last year. He currently has about 34 kids so they are gonna split off into another team. Which IMO kinda sucks, but this may persuade me to get the whistle and help out a bit. only because the season starts in 2 weeks and the new head coach may need some help. but only for that reason.

Jake is #55 for the JV Football team at Middletown HS.
He's getting a shot at LB this year. A position he played well in a few seasons ago, but he is such an outstanding lineman that they would never let him play D. But now he's huge and strong and fast so they're not stupid and now he's the happiest he's been in a long time. Yea!
Michael is not playing a sport this year, because he is changing HS in his senior year and does not want to play against his old team. Understandable.
But he is thinking about playing fall Rugby for the select team.
PS: I finally had to step in and volunteer as "Team Liason" because no one else would do it....and I will get you to sign up for concessions oh yes I will....

My 13 year old daughter is back in the pool with her HS swim team. (In Minnesota HS girls swim in the fall.) Her team lost the 3 swimmers from last year that were better than her (2 graduated and 1 transfered) so she is far and away the best swimmer on the team, despite only being a Freshman this year. This is also her 3rd year on the Varsity team (In MN, 7th and 8th Graders can participate at the Varsity level.) which is actually one more season than one of the senior capitans. I suspect next year she will be the school's first ever Sophomore captain. First meet is this weekend. Any success she expects from the meets will have to be in individual events. The team doesn't have enough decent swimmers this year for a competitive relay.
Two weeks ago my 8-year old son started some hockey "dry land" drills with the players and coaches from his team last year. They won't actually hit the ice until October, so between now and then, they will get together a couple of times a week for an hour or so and work on stick drills and foot work. He can't wait to skate.

Sadly that seems to be the way it is for kids today. Everything has to be planned and organized.
btw - The book that shares its title with your username "SorceryatCaesars" is a great book!

Come on let's be honest, the reason kids don't play pick up any more is because stupid adults always seem to run them off of where ever they're trying to play.
If there is a free bit of space, then someone owns, or it belongs to the county, or to a school, or club and they want to charge you to use it. At least that's been my experience through the years with my kids.

Rajaun is playing 75lb AAA for KLM. He is starting DT and backup FB. I'm also an asst. coach again this year.
Jamir is playing flag for the first time this year. Talk about some of the funniest stuff you will ever see.....

Everything has to be organized these days. Fields are harder to come by, kids seem to have "better" things to do, etc.
It's really a shame because lots of skills and better rounding of an athlete happens in pickup games with players of various ages. We do try to organize pickup soccer scrimmages with my daughters and other girls of different levels and ages over the summer, as often as possible but it isn't like the pickup football games I played on a daily basis, as a kid.

Not sure if anyone may see this but my son caught his first interception in a game the other night.
He's been playing the O-Line for several years but has made the D this year,
...ok, ok, with only 18 players he's actually on the kickoff team, the punt return team, the O-Line, and the D...lol!
I was so proud of him + his HS JV team is 2-0 so far
