View Full Version : Did we OVERSPEND for Coles???

Well, based on his first three games, I would say, NO!!! He looks like he is the real deal. I am still hearing some JETS fans claiming that he is "over-rated" and not worth what we paid for him. I CAN'T TELL! It seems to me that they are just crying over spilled milk.
We did give him a 7year/35million contract. It is a pretty hefty contract, but so far, COLES IS PRODUCING AND IS ONE OF THE LEAGUE LEADERS AT HIS POSITION. The question, however, remains....did we 'overpay'???

Uhh, he's doing better than anybody they have right now. I'll attribute their comments to not getting over their FO letting him get away.

No. Without Coles this offense stalls. Coles was worth every penny, just his presence on the field, changes this offense.

I hope we get Jacobs up and going. I don't think he can be like Coles... but you never know. I'll be very concerned if we were ever without LC... even for a quarter.
LC has been worth plenty more than his contract shows. It's pretty rare when a WR makes an ENTIRE team play better. How's that for if he's overpaid, he's earning money for some of the other guys on the team.

All that nice stuff we see Canidate and Betts doing? The improvements in McCants and Gardner [aside from bonhead taunting penalties?] The amazing progress of Patrick Ramsey? You think any of that happens to this degree without Laveranues Coles? I don't.

So far, Ramsey and Coles look like 3-time pro-bowlers.

I must admit I'm surprised. Big contract players have not useally work well for us in the past 10 years. Coles seems to doing his part and then some. With the amount of money we are giving him he should be one of the top 3 WR in the NFL - and he IS. Can't ask for more than that. Now all we need to do is give him and Patrick some help.

Fact is Coles is driven by a inner fire to prove his doubters wrong, especially Bobby Bowden and Terry Bradway. As long as he stays healthy and has that chip on his shoulder, the Skins will bear the fruits of his labor.
I love him so much I plan to make his burgandy authentic my next jersey purchase. The wife must love him too because she didn't object to the $250+ purchase idea. :D

SPENCE: Perfectly said. You and PSF have really seen his worth. It goes far beyond the plays that he (individually) makes. He makes the whole offense better. We haven't had this kind of firepower on Offense in over 10 years!!!! It's a long time coming, but I'm glad it's here!

I like how he appologized for making some bad plays at the beginning and said he felt that he was why the spark was lost, and that he would try to fix that.

Coles has been a positive influence on the team. I just wish the team would follw him in just one more way.........PENALTIES AND BONEHEAD TAUNTING. Has Coles even had as much as a ref thing about thowing a flag on him.........NA, he make a play and prepares for the nex. I wish some others would take notice of that.
And for those who think that they need to draw attention to themselves (McCants) to get there next contact, again I would say look at Coles. He has always done what he does to the best of his albility and moves on to the next play and guess what? Because he's great at what he does, he got paid! NOT because he showboats and acted like somekind of horse's a$$ everytime he caught a 15 yard pass!!!
McCants, Trotter and others in this league need to grow up.

OVERSPEND for Coles?? How can you say that? He has been the best reciever in the NFL so far this year.

Teams don't get into cap trouble spending a lot of money on stars. They get into cap trouble spending a lot of money on guys who are has-beens [Deion Sanders, Mark Carrier] or never-weres [Heath Shuler, Michael Westbrook].

Honestly they were bone-head penalties, but when you are in the middle of the players on the sideline and a guy trys to throw you to the ground, you aren't going to get ticked off? And when you get hit in the back(illegal) and LATE? You aren't going to get ticked off? Yea they were bonehead, but they were at the same time slightly justified.

Schuler was stupid, however Mike was decent till he got picked up and dropped on his head. Was never the same since that.

NO boneheaded penalty that costs you the game is even slightly justified. Let the refs take care of the other teams actions. You take care of your own. Let the win make them look like fools.

May not be a popular opinion, but one that I share. McCants was reacting to what he perceived to be a little late activity on his call, and unless I missed something, I thought that Trotter was reacting to being pushed first. Also, how does BMitch not get a flag for getting all in the refs face coming from the sideline?

in 3 games caught 23 balls 391 yards over season at this rate he will have one hell of a 1st year.Yes did cost a lot but looks like him and Ramsey have great understanding and will allow Gardner and Jacobs some space as defenders go for coles. After Westbrook and Howard failed us he is the best since Monk and Clark

No way did we overpay. IMO he deserves a bonus check for the work he has done so far. Great addition to the team!

I didn't see many Jets games last year, but I must say that Coles is a lot better then last year.
He is incredible.

I say YES... thats right I said YES we overpaided for Coles. Every NFL player is overpaid. To make a million a year to play football just blows my mind. As far as Coles goes, he is earning his big payucheck better than anyojne else right now
