He is the new Director of Player responsibility. He will help our guys with being responsible off the field and things like that. No link, just read it on my elevator TV.

Solid move by the Redskins. I think Ken getting in the ear of these players (especially the rookies after the draft) will be nothing but a positive for this club.

DJ were you touting ben patrick TE for the skins last year ? have you followed him this year with the Cards, or was that someone else?

I was on the Ben Patrick bandwagon and I believe so was Smoak. (The Univ. of DE connection)
I haven't been following him. Has he been making an impact?

isnt troy vincent heavily involved inthis kind of activity for the union ? teaching rookies about money managment and making good career/life decisions ?

i think he had several catches for them last week.. the cards have 3 solid TE's.. truman, pope and patrick but i think he is becoming a pass receiving weapon for them (kind of like buck ortega...lol....jk)

Director of Player Responsibility??
man oh man.
sure would be nice if young football players could grow up and learn to be men before getting to this level.
sadly, i think this is a smart move by the redskins, and speaks volumes about the privilege and lack of accountability high school and college athletes experience these days.

Yeah, but how many 22 year olds do you know are getting paid like they do. I probably wouldnt have become a pac man jones, marshall or anything like that, but if i got millions when i was 21 or 22 i would have been wild. In reality, i was just happy to be getting an entry level job. When bonuses came, oh yeah, ruby tuesdays for everyone.LOL.

I always thought most teams especially the redskins already had this spot filled. I mean with no limit to the number of coaches or staff members, it seems this would have been addressed a long time ago.
Espcially with the potential a single bad mishap causing a player to be out on Sundays.

I think DJ and I were both big on the guy's potential... But after the combine, it seemed EVERY media and scouting department was interested... I am literally floored he went as lat as he did.
Re: Harvey, I am really thrilled to see him back with the team. He a rare bright spot in those dismal Turner years.

I like this move. I also think they couldn't have picked a better person to help mentor the young guys. Ken Harvey is nothing but class. And if he has to, he can put the fear of God into most players still.

I'm kinda surprised this didn't happen under Gibbs' watch. Harvey is a class act and a devout Christian. My mom has been to his house many times for bible studies with his wife. They are good people and their house is open to anybody.

I thought that John Jefferson (ex-Charger WR under Gibbs) fulfilled that role during Gibbs 2.0

Unfortunately, Buck got released right after the game in favor of Billy Miller. I don't know if he is on the Saints practice squad. Buck was one of Sean Taylor's best friends.

I agree. Ken is the perfect choice. It's a shame we even need a Director of Player Responsibility, but it's good to get Ken to mop these things up.

Is it wrong that my first reaction to the hiring of good people is "Oh, no. I hope we don't screw this guy."?

good move...not only for rookies and younger players, but really all of these guys are relatively young, and we have already seen plenty of publicity from radio interviews (Portis), weblogs (Cooley), parties (Moss), even over-sleeping (Davis)...these guys are under the microscope more than ever, and no one is beyond needing some quidance.

Well, you're not alone in that reaction, wrong or not. I have too much admiration for Ken to like the thought of how he might be treated if the top of the organization decided he was on the wrong sinde of a disagreement.

Ken really didn't wow me as a player...but he always gave 110%.
This new position IMO is a little crazy....so I guess this position means he's the 2008 version of Daddy Daycare....LOL

With this attitude that many of the players come out of college with now a days (actually take it back as far as 15 years) and this sense of entitlement first and performing out on the field second – a position like this in the organization makes sense. And honestly, couldn’t do much better than appointing Ken Harvey to fill the roll.
