How does one allow iTunes to run in Windows Vista, without crashing iTunes? I have about 14,000 songs on an external hard drive, just got a new PC, and iTunes is having trouble figuring the gapless playback information. Anyone have suggestions on how i can get this done and finally be able to use iTunes to listen to music and update the ol' iPod?

I just purchased a couple of new albums via iTunes and downloaded them to my iPod. I'm running Vista and haven't had any problems. Check and see if there are updates for your iTunes. Also check and see if there are any Windows updates.

I'm not sure if this is vista-specific, seeing as how I'm abstaining from ponying up the cash or using alternate methods to actually get the OS, but I'm pretty sure you're having a DRM-verification issue stemming from the use of your external hard drive.

I'd try googling "Itunes DRM external HD issues" or some other pertinent combination of words to find a solution for this. The only good thing about issues with computer software is that there's bound to be another person with the same exact problem you're experiencing, and there are smart people out there that are willing to lend a helping hand.
