I'm sorry but it has to be said. What the hell has happened to Chris Samuels!?!?!?!?!?! Since his rookie year he has just repeatidly taken steps back. He's a good tackle but nothing spectacular. He's been dominated at times the last two seasons and it seems everyone always writes it off as an injury problem or a mental block. This guy has been absolutely dominated by Hugh Douglas and other players in the division the last few years and it showed yesterday. I know how we all talk about the franchise players like Lavar, Champ, Coles, Ramsey and how eventually some of these guys will have to leave. How about we get rid of Samuels and sign Champ!!!!!!! Maybe I'm just recovering from yesterdays loss and still ticked off but this guy has shown me NOTHING since his rookie year. He didn't deserve to go to the pro-bowl last year, he's not even the best player on his own line. For using the 3rd overall pick on the guy its time he needs to move up to the top of the elite with Jon Ogden and Orlando Pace because anyone who says he's in there league is kidding themselves.

I agree . . . so far this year (and a lot of last year) Samuels has been just flat out BAD. Last year he was hurt a lot. What is his excuse this year? I guess he has his shiny new high output contract in his garage . . . why should he try to hard? he might hurt himself. Maybe we should have based some of that contract on last years play. Maybe we should have waited (of course then we would have all bitched because the contract wasn't done). Who knows, but he has to step up.

Jansen had three penalties yesterday too. Come on, wasn't the o-line supposed to be a strengh. Are the penalties because they are still not used to playing together and would rather take the penalty then the sack and a possible turn over?

This is just a little f**ked up. I'm sorry but it had to be said. Would you start saying Lavar sucked if he had a couple of bad games? Or Champ? Or Pat? We need to stop pointing fingers. You know maybe if we started playing without the penalties as a whole. Yea Rams is getting hit. But how many of those are blown blocks by the BACKFIELD? A LOT OF THEM! Get of samuels back a little. Things will come together.....just give it a little bit of time.

Isn't all of last year and the 1st 3 games ( thats 19 games and 19 is not a couple) of this year enough games to say something isn't right? I don't believe he sucks . . . just that he isn't performing. Obviously he has it in him. He was awesome the first couple years then supposedly hurt all last year and trying to play through the injuries. If that was so last year, what is his excuse this year?

Samuels dominated at Alabama... he has it in him. I also remember him doing a fine job with Hugh Douglas.

Its not one game. Samuels is REPEATIDLY referred to as one of the best players on this team. And is making a helluva lot of money. Heres a question for you WHEN was Samuels last good game??? It hasn't been this season and I can't recall one last season. Samuels has already given up 3 sacks that I know of 1 during the Giants and 2 during the Jets. And I'm willing to bet he gave up a few to the Falcons but I didn't see that game. Tell me the last time he played at a Pro-Bowl level PLEASE

The guy played injured most of last year. So, I kinda give him a break. Yea he needs work, but there is no need to say he sucks...

Until he shows me something else he does suck. If he's so injured that he's giving up sacks he needs to take time and heal. But holding penalties and false starts are mental mistakes and he has been making them constantly.

Shaggy... you are entitled to your opinion... but I think most of us agree that he will come around.

I hope you are right cuz all I've seen is an average tackle making franchise tackle money

I thought Samuels played well down the stretch last year. He struggled with injuries into November. I don't think he sucks. The entire line has had problems pass blocking. They're doing a great job run blocking.

Yeah, I think saying he sucks goes a bit overboard. He's still considered one of the best at his position and I believe he'll get it together. Players can't play perfectly every game.

I don't have much to say other than Chris Samuels is not as bad as anyone has portrayed him to be. There are many things that go into a Lineman giving up a sack...for example it could be a coverage sack, the guard may have missed his assignment ect. Samuels did not go to the Pro Bowl for nothing last year, he was extremely solid! Ask anyone on the D-line of Dallas, Philly and New York and any other team we play this year and they will tell you how good he actually is instead of some you people who think just b/c they watch football they actually know something about it!

Why is Jansen's penalties seemingly getting a free pass here? I can remember at least three called on him.

My reason is that Jansen matched up aganist Strahan the entire game and did a good job based on who he was matched up aganist. I said I thought Samuels was good but this guy is being paid big money to be great not just good. And a lot of players still go to the Pro-Bowl based on their name and not there play. When contracts start to expire on some of these guys the next few years and it comes down to a choice are u going to keep Champ, Lavar, Coles, Ramsey, or Samuels???

I think Jansen knew he was in a dog fight all day and wanted to make sure his best friend didn't get hit from his side anyway, which is why I say he got the 3 false starts, trying to get a jump on Strahan. I think the line pass blocked much better this time, but I was at my daughter softball tryouts til mid 3rd quarter so I missed a lot

I read in the sporting news that Samules and Jansen have both regressed in the eyes of several NFL fo personnel.

They have attributed the decline to the way O Line coach Kim Helton uses them. he often has them doing more to help the guards than worrying about their own individual matchup.

with all the money spent on the guards that was a little discouraging I could understand last year if that was the case.

If that is true about helton, he needs to go.

We have two tackles who are probowl level and they aren't getting better with time. We should have capable guards who can hold their ground. Helton arguably has the most talented players as a unit on the team. If they need time to gell, i'll give them that. But to have our anchors of the line look worse as they go along... it's hard to not blame Helton.

Actually...Samuels himself has admited that he is not at the top of his game. (Per Brahm Weinstein on 980am)

He knows he can play better...and IMO, he will make the corrections needed to be a pro-bowl tackle for years to come.

I'll admit, I've been hard on Samuels lately...but he has the talent to perform. Lets give him some time. WE can only get better once he gets better.

I don't know if alot can be put into that article. We've only played three games so far this year. Also, the majority of the sacks and pressure has been coming from the outside, so I would think that Helton would have them concentrating more on the edges where they line up and not the middle. Now, if that was written in regards to last year and our guards then, I may be tempted to give it a little more then a casual glance.
