View Full Version : Jacobs will be HUGE... we need him

I hope Taylor can play this week. He's going to give us what we've been missing: another big play threat. Rod has been solid and McCants is playing better than he ever has, but we need another deep threat to go with Coles.
I saw Rod go out on a few deep routes yesterday, McCants too. I think that a burner like Jacobs could really stretch the defense and take pressure off Coles. Or he'll get some really big plays. Johnson has done alright, but Jacobs would really allow us to do some things.
I hope he's healthy and he can come back this week. I'm not expecting all that much out of him, being a rook, but rotating him with McCants as the #3 will give the D a lot more than they bargained for.

Gardner kindda dissapointed yesterday but he'll do great this season. We should have an improved version of Connell and Westbrook in 99. Like them or not they were unstoppable that year...

Is he 100% healthy? I'm all for not messing with a bruised pancreas. That organ is way too important for human survival.
I would hold him out for 2-3 more weeks at least and let him get his route running and confidence back to 100 percent.
If I were hampered with a potential life threatening injury, I would be looking for the hit instead of the ball. No running across the middle. Short-arming any pass that required full extension, etc.

I'm not expecting much from him but I would like to see him on the field. His health is much more important and I would want him to be fully recovered before returning. I'd like to see a number of these guys step up and make plays and become weapons. It'll make us that much more difficult to defend.

What happened to Cliff Russell, that guy has disappeared?

I would have kept Watson over Russell. I would have kept Cloman over Russell for what it's worth.

I haven't heard a thing about Watson. I haven't heard a thing about Sultan either and he plays for our team. :D

Word out of Pro Football Weekly is that the offensive coaching staff has completely lost confidence in Cliff Russell and that after his disastrous final preseason game he lost confidence in [I]himself. My guess is that if this guy was a 6th round choice instead of a 3rd round choice, they'd have handed him his bus ticket by now.

The coaching staff/FO cannott keep guys on the roster just to prevent egg from being on their faces, while cutting guys that could have been contributing.

Russell just needs to get on the field. I think he can really open up this offense. I'd use him on fly patterns ,deep outs,Play action & comeback routes. He would really help on 3rd & long. Just needs more playing time. Not a bust!!

Heath Shuler would never have made it out of his first training camp if he hadn't been a #1 pick. And Westbrook? Don't even get me started on that guy! It also applies to free agents. If not for that fat signing bonus, Dana Stubblefield would have been cut to pieces with a chainsaw and his organs harvested for transplant surgery after his first season in town.
It sucks, but the only thing bigger than money in the NFL is ego.

Well I guess we'll get to see what Jacobs is made of since the word is he is a go for Sunday. Spurrier says he or Russell will be the number 5 receiver against New England. I think Jacobs will win the job. Hope his speed and experience in the system shows and he can contribute.

Sit Jacobs for another week and see what Russell can do.

We did keep Cloman - Practice squad. Is it time for a promotion.
Don't know IF I put TJ at the 5 spot yet. IF he's cleared this afternoon, I think tomorrow will be his frist "Contact" practice since the injury. ....... I know one thing - IF TJ get's into the game, makes a catch and FUMBLE on contact - The SH#T WILL HIT THE FAN next week!

I think McCants has been pretty damn good this season, taunting penalty and all. I think that the standard for a taunt were misapplied in this situation. TJ will be good next year as the number 3. Coles and McCants will be one and two and Jacobs will stretch the field. Gardner......gone the way of the free range buffalo.:smash:

I would have had him on the regular roster and cut Russell outright.

It says alot about Russell that he has been inactive, yet a rookie who hasn't played all year will suit up and play Sunday now that he is healthy.

Hope Jacobs can help, I don't like how the rest of the field dissappeared vs. the Giants. We may get through the season on that. But in the play-offs that's a first round exit.

Agreed Kenny, and watching pre-season games, I simply can not fathom the reasoning on why Russell made the roster. He was plagued with dropped passes and mis routes. My feeling is he was kept for speed, but what good is it if you can not catch the ball? This was one of the only perplexing roster decisions to me.
