Am I the only one who thought he had missed it? It looked wide left to me. [facing from the LOS] I was shocked that it wasn't reviewed by dallass.

Thoughts?

I can honestly never tell if a FG is good or not until the ref calls it. Even when I'm at the game. Unless it's right down the middle, the angled ones always deceive me.

I thought he missed it. Mustve been above the uprights then hooked left.

You are definitely not the only one. EVERYONE thought it was a miss.

But two guys standing under the goalpost say it went through and none of the players seemed to think twice about it. I can only assume it was a goofy angle.

I've seen it three times and every time it looks wide.

Can't be challenged. Whether a ball goes through the uprights is considered a "judgment call" since it would be pretty much impossible to get a definitive angle on a high kick that's going above the uprights.

The only field goals that can be challenged are ones that bounce off the upright or crossbar to determine if they ever actually pass through.

As is my understanding, at least.

Refs were just horrible this game. i'm just trying to decide if all their bad calls averaged out to neutral.

Eh, I think it might of been a kind of 50/50 chance of it being good. It looked wide the further it came back to the camera, but what mattered is where it was when it crossed the uprights.

what saved us was that it was OVER the pole so the refs had to mentally extend the pole.. that was obviously too much for them this week..

on the other hand, suisham didnt ACT like he thought he missed it... no one from the skins team did

And you are right. FG's are not challengeable

i thought that is one of the rule changes that happened this off season and that you COULD challenge a fg call ???

The change was that you could challenge ones that hit the crossbar and I *think* includes uprights as well. Before this year, none were challengeable at all.

looked it up.. instant replay IS available for FG.. but it doesnt say that it is challengable.. so i guess the REFS have to ask for it and if they are certain, it cannot be challenged...

Interesting. Ones that hit the crossbar/uprights are challengable, I'm sure. So other one they can just choose to review if they're not sure?

Weird.

Either way, I'm perfectly happy never knowing the truth about Suisham's field goal. The two guys on the field say it went in and that's good enough for me! If he missed, I don't wanna know about it. :)

there was absolutely ZERO hesitation on the part of the refs..it was a strange play..of course i have seen extra points that i was certain missed, and they were called good

Only the cross bar, not the uprights, like was said earlier.

TV angles always throw things off. There was no outcry from the tens of thousands that saw it in person, including all the coaches and refs on the field but a bunch of you all watching a picture shot through a lens are so sure. C'mon now.

I remember thinking I thought he missed the 2nd FG [that made it 20-17] If you have Comast OnDemand they have 10 minute highlights of each game and they use the radio playcall of the home team, in this case the Cowboys. When he kicked it the announcer said "and it's good" at the same time the official raised his hand, so he seemed to have no question about it being good.

From the view I had in South Carolina ---- it was straight down the middle .......... :drunker:

B-Mitch even agreed that it was good.

It hooked wide after it crossed through. The official standing under the upright put his arms up immediately. Since he had the best vantage point in the stadium, and gets paid to do this for a living, I have to go with his judgment.

Here's a link I found on another forum:

The kick (http://home.comcast.net/~kilyin/FieldGoal.wmv)

After watching it a few times, it actually looks good. Barely. Passes just inside and a little over the upright and then hooks.

In case anybody wanted another look.

great link thingy! thanks.

your right, it looks good. but i don't think it gets any closer then that.

The reason i think the players knew it was good was they had a straight view. we were behind the post, so our view was a little different.

either way, i worry about Shazam now. he missed the deep kick to finish off the cards, he missed one with the saints (the other was on brooks), and this game he nearly missed a gimmi (i think they were all within 35 yards.)

i know he worked on his leg strength and that has helped an amazing amount with our field position and defense. but i wonder if its messing with his accuracy, or if the way brooks is holding it is messing with him?

Suisham has kicked for 11 FG and made 8. One was from 30 yrds (Brooks fault) and the other two were from 49 and 52 yrds (both were outdoors... not a controlled environment). The guy went 4 for 4 and kicking the crap out of the ball on KOs... and you're complaining about him???

IMO, he's doing a great job. Just needs to practice those long FGs. I don't think we need to look for another kicker... stick with the Swishy.

i didn't say i want to replace him, and i wasn't really complaining. i was just worried about him. maybe i put him to high to start the season, and thats why i am upset he missed the first FG in the saints game, and the FG to put the game outta reach in the Cards game. Both were kinda long, but don't tell me outdoors. i was there those games. it was hot yes, but there was NO wind at all.

I am NOT saying we should look for another kicker, and i love his kickoffs. it can't be understated how valuble those are for us. but i do worry about his kicking. the one in the dallas game barely made it, but the others he drilled. I think he needs to keep working and keep progressing cause he isn't where we want him yet. but he isn't horrible or even bad either. i just worry, instead of saying 35 yarder, buckets.

Nope. I was cursing up a storm and my wife was like "He made it" and I said..."He did?????"

I didn't even see the kick at the time, but everyone I was watching the game with thought it was no good until the ruling.

People have pics up now:

But who cares, we won and would've still won in the end. :p

Yeah - I believe at that point the ball was half way past the goal post and the net heading down.

Ah, memories
From "damn, overtime" to "YEWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!@#!"#!@#!#!!!!!!" in a matter of milliseconds...

And on the Suisham kick, it probably went wide just as soon as it went through the goal posts (thus APPEARING to be wide)
Besides, the refs took away a TD from us on that drive, so even if this call was wrong -- Dallass fans should be thankful.
