View Full Version : Brandon Adams thinks Eagles are "without question the superior team"

The famous sports handicapper (portrayed by Matthew McConaughey in "Two for the Money") really likes the Eagles and the points:
Eagles (-5˝) vs. Redskins
If you're going to win consistently in the NFL, you have to focus on situations as much as matchups. And there isn't a better situational play in the league in Week 5 than this one. You've got the Redskins coming off their third straight win – a stunning upset at archrival Dallas – and undoubtedly a bit tipsy after guzzling the Kool-Aid everyone has been serving them. At the same time, you've got an Eagles squad coming off consecutive physical games (15-6 home win over the Steelers, 24-20 road loss at Chicago) that absolutely cannot lose this week if it wants to stay in the NFC East race. So in a nutshell, Washington is in the classic flat spot, while Philadelphia is in full desperation mode.
Then there's the simple fact that despite the records – the Redskins are 3-1; the Eagles are 2-2 – Philly is without question the superior team. Check the numbers: The Eagles are averaging 27.5 points and 365 yards per game on offense; Washington is averaging 21.5 points and 342 yards. Defensively, Philly is allowing just 18.5 points and 246 yards per game; the 'Skins are allowing 20.2 points and 315 yards. Also, the Eagles have given up a grand total of nine points (three field goals) in two home games, while this is Washington's third road trip in five weeks, all against divisional rivals – and this particular division rival has a fierce D that leads the NFL in rushing yards allowed (53.8 per game) and sacks (17).
Look for the Eagles to serve up a little humble pie to the high-flying 'Skins and knock their rivals back to earth with a double-digit victory.

A stats comparison after four games in which one team has played the Rams and the other team has not should be rendered wholly irrelevant.

I think I would have prefered to have the Eagles schedule too lol. I mean they gave up 41 points to the Cowboys O in Dallas...oh and they've played the Rams and the Orton led Bears too. The competition isnt exactly equal in my mind. Plus last time I checked theyve been in the same system for like a decade lol, so they should be out producing us...shouldnt they?

i think this is a very dangerous game for the skins.. they have to be fully prepared for 4 quarters of pressure on mcnabb and NO TURNOVERS on offense..
the eagle defense has for years feasted on redskin turnovers. that's how they win. play them even--especially on the road- and we can win this game.. turn the ball over and we will get humbled quickly..
traditionally we have not done well against other nfc east teams that are "desperate." we have allowed them to get healthy and get back in the race at our expense far too often..
let's hope this is a different kind of redskin team..

I think firehawk did a pretty good job putting Philly's statistical advantages into perspective. His article is on the front page of the site.
Basically, Philly has played the Rams (horrific offense, defense), Dallass (who they gave up 40 points to without sacking Romo) the Steelers (less Parker and Devenport and with a horrific OL) and Chicago (with Kyle Orton at QB). They lost 2 of those games.
If anything, an argument could be made that the two teams are headed in opposite directions. Perhaps the Iggles are tailing off and the Redskins are getting better?

First of all, no one has been serving us kool-aid. The post game coverage of the Cowboys-Redskins game centered mostly around T.O.'s complaints. If not that, then discussion on "what went wrong for the Cowboys." Of course there was the few scattered "let's give credit to Zorn and the Redskins" comments, but they are obligatory after a game like that.
Secondly, it is rather dumb to cite those type of stats without looking at the context (like whit just said). How about this stat: we played four top 5 ranked offences, and held them each to their lowest seasonal totals. He fails to mention that.

Boy, I hope that turns out to be the case. I just hope I don't have nightmares that night featuring a guy wearing No. 36 running all over the field.

This is a trap game for us. Philly has everything on the line and we could actually survive this loss if it happens. The key will be to protect Jason because that old man on the sidelines will be bringing the heat all game long. We need to beat their blitzes with some long passes and maybe that'll get them to back off.

Hmmmm ........... The "Superior" Eagles go down to Dallas and play the Cowboys in on heck of a game, lose BUT comes away feeling somewhat good knowing that the Boys are beatable (in their eyes). THIS was even noted by many football analyst.
Redskins go to Dallas as a double digit underdog and do what the Eagles COULD NOT - Win!!!
So Mr. Famous Sports Handicapper , although I agree with your game view (Highs vs Lows) are YOU taking the Eagles -5.5 or is this your "Free" offer of the weekend?
OR are you just upset that you've lost to the Skins 3 out of the last 4 weeks ............ bummer.

The Cowboys should roll in this one, but they might make it interesting. Naturally, the Redskins are going to air it out, and if the Eagles (a very similar offense) showed us anything, it’s that Cowboys can be scored upon—outscoring them is still the problem.
Look for Cowboys vs. Redskins betting to go over the total of 47 and for the Cowboys to cover the spread.
Well, at least they're not a fickle bunch.

oh well the Cowboys were also "superior". i told my friends at work, if the Redskins beat the Cowboys, it will shake up the whole sports world, but Favre had to throw 6 TD's to snatch the headlines, kinda like he had to land his plane on his "comeback" during Zorn's first game as coach in the hall of fame game. so i expect the skins to win, and Favre will throw 7 TD's.

Great point, Patrick. It may be with this guy that the Iggles are, in his eyes, "the superior team" merely because he just does not have a very high opinion of the Redskins.

This game is a "statement game" for Washington ... if this team has "it" this year, then this game will reveal it. Our guys should know that, just like the Dallas game, this is going to be a physical battle ... and Philadelphia is in "must-win" mode. Expect everything that they have to throw at us, stay poised ... and execute with brutality and efficiency. The Eagles will try to bait us into penalties and mistakes ... we must stay focused!!
Should we win this game, there could be no stopping us ... after this, and with four winnable games left before the bye week (and three of them at home), it would set us up beautifully, both in the division and in the conference. But I'm getting ahead of myself ... and I hate doing that!!
A true "Champion" imposes its will in these kinds of games, plays with precision and efficiency on Offense, and is brutally physical and punishing on Defense. Are we a "Champion" ... this game will speak volumes!!!
Go Skins ... stuff the Eagles

I don't really see this as a trap game I'd be hard pressed to believe that the Skins think that going to philly and getting a win is easy. They've beaten this group of Skins many times so I'd be shocked if we were flat.
I completely agree about the deep passes though. As soon as TO caught that bomb against them in the dallas game they completely backed off of the blitz.
My only worries are that we can;t generate pressure and without Springs most likely we give up too many yards and start playing soft coverage on defense. Blatch isn't a heavy blitzer and I think it could give Mcnabb too much of a comfort zone.
This could be a huge platform game to set us up for a special season. With the 3 winnable games coming up. Lose this and it could emotionally make those next 3 much tougher.

I disagree, I think our intentions were always to split these two games (Dallas and Philly). Now we are "playing with house money," so to speak. If we win, we're damn good. If not, we're still in good position at 3-2 and have the easiest part of our schedule ahead of us.

I don't think the team goes into this situation thinking split and stuff like that. I think they are literally taking em 1 at a time. I don't see us being flat or satisfied coming into this game. I think its huge for us to win. The eagles are nicked its a perfect time with our offense playing well to get another key win.

The only reason I disagree with the "perfect time" part is the Chicago loss. With that result the Eagles are in full backs-against-the-wall mode.
Let say we beat Philly, if Dallas beats Cincy and NY beats Seattle (the NFC East teams are combined 24 points favorites in those two games) the standings would look like this:
NY Giants 4-0
Washington 4-1
Dallas 4-1
Philly 2-3
If you're the Eagles Sunday's game is as must-win as any can be this early. If the Skins can come out with a win Sunday it'll be one of the franchise's most impressive of the last few years.

We can't afford to lose this game. Every game counts, and if you're a championship team, you treat every game like your last. Losing is not a consideration. This isn't peewee. You play to win.
Apparently this famous booker doesn't compute strength of schedule. Smart. How do you reach success while being so dumb? Better to be lucky than good I guess. I wonder what he wrote about our match up against the Cowgirls.

Yeah, I know a few people who bookie as well. Oddly enough, they don't know much about the actual sport, but a lot about the odds.. it's interesting to hear their perspective. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if dude said eagles are favorites and had his money banked on the skins upset. If you know it's going to be published, that's a hell of an opportunity to sway opinion.

Every team in the NFCB is a good team, there is no reason to feel like this should be a trap game IMO. We lose, and we're tied with Philly and don't stay on pace with NY or keep a step above the Eagles. We can't afford to lose, just like they can't afford to. I'm looking at a 30-17 Skins win. Thats with a touchdown at the end to shut the door on a Philly come back....

not just us.. most games are not truly blowouts.. even if you look at the jets/cards game, for example, the cards were in it until very late. they were driving for what could ahve been a score to make it aone possession game.. warner fumbled for the 6th turnover and that made it look like a rout when the jets subsequently scored.. but watching the game in real time, you could see the game turn on that one play.. after that, the cards just sagged.. many final scores are deceptive

I agree that this is a very dangerous game for the Skins. We have not proven that we can handle a blitzing team like the Eagles. If we can't protect Jason on Sunday, there is likely to be turnovers on offense. A large part of our early-season success is directly attributable to the lack of turnovers.
Another key is the availability of Westbrook. If he can't go or is significantly limited, that will take some pressure off our defense.
I thought the line would be 3 or 3.5, not the 5.5 or 6, after we dominated Dallas in Dallas. But, to me, it's an advantage to be disrespected. We can fly under the radar and use the disrespect as motivation.

A very smart friend told me that some of the "touts" are actually out and out con men. They don't have a clue as to which team is the smarter bet. Their touts usually come with a "money back" guarantee. However, the guarantee is only for the amount they charge for their touts, not the amount a customer actually wagered.
What these con men touts will do is pick one team every other call and pick the opponent team between those calls. This way, the touts are guaranteed to be right half the time. They will return the fees for half the calls on which they were wrong and pocket the fees on the half of the calls they were right.
Hopefully, no one is stupid enough to actually use these touts. Think about it, if they are really absolutely sure about which teams to pick, why would they share that information with you? They would just go ahead and wager on those teams themselves.

I agree with someone earlier saying that this would be the best/most defining win we've had in the last decade if we do what we want this sunday

Why is everyone crying about this?? Its week 5 people. Those 4 teams could end up as the bottom 4. How about we hold off on all the talk until our bye week.

The famous sports handicapper (portrayed by Matthew McConaughey in "Two for the Money") really likes the Eagles and the points:

His website if anyone would like to discuss his wonderful pick.

lol does not appear to be any way to email him. There is this warning though on the customer service page:
Any threats toward Mr. Lang or the operators of this site will be turned over to the proper authorities and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law at the Local, State and Federal levels.
Email is an interstate wire communication transmission, falling under the jurisdiction of the federal courts. Accordingly, using email for purposes of making threats of harm to another individual is a federal criminal offense in addition to the range of potential misdemeanor and felony criminal charges that can and will be brought against you at the State and Local levels as well.
A couple of red warnings on top and bottom lol. Nice industry.

Brandon Lang does a couple segments on one of the sports radio stations out here every friday. He's good radio, I like listening to it. You can't win them all. I'll say this, the three hosts were all talking about the game and the spread (6 points) before BL came on, and they all picked the Skins to cover (Lang obviously picked Philly to cover).

Lol, why should we be grateful for getting picked to cover.
If I saw them I would tell em "We didn't just COVER. We WON, b----!" :moon2:

I don't think the point is to cover. heck teams can cover but still loose. I could care less about that crap. I think, me at least, is a little pissed at the "without question the superior team" crap. As if he has not been watching either team the last few weeks.

there goes the Eagles are more desperate than us and we're fat and happy theory.
we're good and not as good as we're gonna get as the Rookies on offense get more involved.
I don't see a let down this is still all so new to Zorn his energy level won't let us sleep on them at all.

I don't think the Skins have acted cocky at all. They seem to be confident, know they're growing, and taking it 1 team at a time. I watched some of the post game with Kelli Johnson interviewing (dear God I want her), and all the players seemed to have a take it one team at a time approach. They know they're good, but could be better. Besides... Giants are still the top team in the division, and showed the Seahawks why today. We're just a part of the fray till someone takes them down, or we beat them in the rematch.
