Tommy Bowden has been relieved of his duties as Clemson's head football coach, effective immediately, Tigerillustrated.com has learned. Bowden told assistant coaches moments ago in a staff meeting. Get the full story inside, including which assistant has been promoted to interim head coach.

I rode back home last night on the plane with a Skins fan who is originally from SC and is a Clemson fan. He must be ecstatic. He's wanted Bowden gone for years.....

Good recruiter, terrible gameday coach. Its going to cost Cletius Tech 5 million to dump Bowden, and they have to get a big name to replace him, because they don't want to throw in some young small school coach or hot assistant into the cauldron of South Carolina recruiting against Spurrier.

I'm guessing Phil Fulmer will be the top choice of the boosters if he's fired by Tennessee. Maybe Chan Gailey or Lane Kiffin also.

Also, its kinda of funny that Clemson fired Bowden as Bush's time in DC is winding down. Those two men are twins who were separated at birth lol

I could see Lane Kiffin. But from what i've read on the premium boards Kiffin will likely stay out west. But who knows in the end.

I hope Napier goes out west or UNC could find a place for him on our staff.

akh, whats Vanderbilts HCs name? Great coach but I'm not sure if he's the "name" coach they'll be looking for.

Bobby Johnson? Thats very possible. He's a Clemson alum and was the DC there over a decade ago. I don't know why he would leave Vandy(where he's building a decent SEC team) for the Wreck of Pickens county.

I had no idea he's an alumni of CU. Perhaps it would be easier for him to win in the ACC at one of the "football" schools in the conference. He has done remarkably well at Vandy though. Like you said, not sure if he'd want to leave what he has going on there.

It would be funny if Rich Rod left Michigan to go back to Clemson. :) May not be fun for the ACC teams but it would be funny to watch the Michigan fans reactions. lol

Well, because of Tammy Faye Bowden's buyout clause, they're handcuffed with how much cash they can pay the next coach(barring them tapping into their slush fund). I don't think that they can outbid Vandy(who wants to give him a big new deal) for Johnson, but we'll see. Fulmer makes the most sense if U-T dumps him.

He has to be kicking himself: if he stayed at WVU one more year, he could have bolted for Clemson without any buyout fight with the Mountaineers.

Craig Loston(considering LSU and Texas now)
Devonte Holloman(considering SC and NC now).

I've been told that Holloman left a message on coach Blakes answering machine last night asking if UNC was still interested. Which I'm told we're not. Coach Davis thinks he's to slow to play Safety in college. So we want him to play LBer. He doesn't want to play LBer so I'm not sure what's going to happen with Holloman for now.

And man. The Clemson players have been pretty harsh with their comments regarding Bowden. I think Spiller told ESPN or someone in the press that Bowden deserves what has happened. He tried to get the players pumped up but the players weren't buying into him anymore.

Yeah, he would be a good fit for SC with our Spur position. He'll be at the SC/LSU sidelines this weekend.

Bowden deserves it after the way he tossed all blame on Harper. And for him to call and leave a message on Harpers cell phone letting him know he had been benched in favor of Korn was really stupid. Yeah, he lost this team a long time ago.

You are so right. There is no one to fault but Bowden. Top 10 classes for the past few year. [or close to it] And to be what, 1-2 in the ACC? Horrible.
