Both are quaterbacks
Both last names start with R
Both have 6 letters in their last name
Both wear number 11
Both have outrageously strong arms
Both are and have led strong offenses

Any others?

To tell you guys the truth i have been a skins fan ever since i Saw Mark Rypien go for the MVP in the Superbowl in '91. He is why i am a skins fan today you could say that i am a 12 year bandwagon fan that just liked the ride enough to stay on the whole time and WONT GET OFF. But Ramsey, from what i can remember as a 8 year is putting up Rypien type games. How do you guys like the similarties?

I think Ramsey is a better QB. I also think that with some work, Ramsey could be a Hall Of Fame QB if he continues to put up the numbers he has been. He is going to be one helluva quarterback in this league

Ryp was almost the original Trent Dilfer during the Ravens run a few years back except #11 had a Rolls Royce offense around him. I mean, my attitude toward Rypien was just, 'Please start out strong, get confidence, and don't screw up!' With Ram now, he has displayed early signs that he'll be the rock of the team that everyone else can lean on and be inspired by. A true gutsy leader that can rally the team under tough circumstances. I'm big on Ram, but was lukewarm about Ryp even though he was part of a very special time in Skins history. I also think that Ram's gun is far superior to Ryp's.

Here's are some key differences between Ram & Ryp:

1. Everytime Rypien got "hurried" or sacked early, it completely threw his confidence, accuracy and timing off. Guaranteed loss. Ramsey gets tougher after being knocked around a few times. He rises to adversity, he doesn't wilt under pressure.

2. Ramsey has far better mechanics and arm strength. Rypien used to make the mistake of "telegraphing" where he was going to throw the ball.

If Ryp dropped back heel-to-toe, he would always throw to the left or middle of the field so he could see his blind side during that play. If he dropped back laterally (side-stepping) he would alway throw to the right side of the field. It used to drive Jurgensen nuts, because the defense would shift coverage based on the way Rypien dropped back during a pass play.

3. During Ryp's Super Bowl season, his O-Line allowed something ridiculous like 6 sacks for the entire season. Could you imagine how Ramsey would do with that kind of protection?

Ryp was accurate with the long pass and so is Ramsey. Can you imagine if Ramsey had the line that Ryp had here.

Well that's what I was going to say, the only correlation is that they both have # 11 and are going to/have lead this team to a Super Bowl.

Ryp had Monk, Sanders, Clark

Ram has Coles, Jacobs, Gardner, McCants

Clearly advantage Ryp on that one. I really like our current WRs, especially Coles, but no one can touch the Posse. All three were clutch and could lift the entire team. Thats 7 SB Rings right there fellas. Loved those guys.

When they won the superbowl with them though they were old wide recievers we have young robust recievers now; so i see this young group maybe becoming the "quick 'n' flick" guys. What do you think?

How about the Posse Reloaded?

Sorry to "wee wee" in your wheaties, but Rypien was nothing special. He was ok to good. More average than anything. Ramsey is twice the Qb, and will finish his career as 10 times the qb.
Rypien floureshed thanks to his supporting cast. He proved he was an over rated qb when he lost that cast.
He did not have a great arm, he was not accurate, and he could not scramble. But he was smart. Gotta give him that. He knew his talent, and he played to it. Rypien needs to thank Gibbs and co. For without them, he'd be an after thought.
Just imagine what Ramsey would do with those amzing recievers and that much time to throw???? WOW! (he's been sacked the second most times in all the NFL)

Rypien played behind the Greatest Offensive Line of ALL TIME. Anybody (except maybe Danny Woeful) could have looked like an all-star QB behind those guys. Ramsey was sacked more in the first two games of this season than Ryp was that entire season. How nuts is that?!

Well i guess i meant to say that THE year Rypien went to the Superbowl he had great number and with the numbers Ramsey is so far putting up if he averages it then i see him at almost 5,000 yards passing and around 27 to 30 touchdowns which i believe would be similar to Rypien's superbowl venture. Tell me if i am wrong though i don't know for sure

skins fans need to thank Gibbs. Without Gibbs, no 3 Superbowl wins with 3 above average QB. Gibbs was a master at adjusting his coaching style to the talent he had. He never had a QB as gifted and special as Ramsey

Once upon a time, a little owner of a pro football team named Washington Redskins needed someone to play qb for his team. Well knowing he was not going to find the answer to his problem from his newly hired coach, he decided to approach the great NFL Creator in the sky.

After much pleading, begging, and few hundred million buck, the Creator said, " I'll make you a QB from all that was good in your storied fanchise. I will mix some Sammy Baugh, Sonny Jurgensen, Billy Kilmer, Eddie Lebarron, Mark Rypien, Joe Theismann, and Doug Williams together. They I'll give him the toughness of Pat Fischer and the heart to Darrell Green."
AND with great excitment and proudness the Creator shouted
" I GIVE YOU, RAMSEY!"

And with several contract extensions, and Superbowls they lived happily ever after.

The End!

SS drafted Ramsey when they could have traded down to get other guys.

Rypien was lousy on the Rams--proof that he wasn't above average.

Then again, Green was losu on ther skins, did well onm the rams and now is doing great with the chiefs )both vermeil teams)

Depends on your definition of "great" What he had was a nice long ball pass--a nack for hitting the pas in stride and in the only place that the rec could make a play. He was called "the mad bomber" by many.

Again credit Gibbs for knowing what each of his QBs did well and adjusting his O to it.

I think that was the point I was making with my comment "he was accurate with the long pass".

There is alot that Ramsey and Rypien have in common, but I have a gut feeling that Ramsey is going to be better then Rypien overall.

I like what Patrick wrote "Once upon a time". I feel we have been blessed by the football God's.

I wasn't feeling Ryp that much. I loved the Posse though. Sometimes it just seemed like Ryp was throwing to the open space on deep passes and the posse would just snagg um.

Plus he won the MVP and held out the following season.....

He didn't to a damn thing when he left Joe Gibbs!
