but he'll have to earn his playing time.

Read it here (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A54699-2003Sep23.html)

I read this at 0430 this morning. SS said that Taylor OR Cliff will be the fifth receiver. ......... MY???? Why haven't they put CR out there for a few rotations. He seems to have fallen off the radar screen. Is he NOT having good practices. I was very surprised when I saw Patrick Johnson making a catch Sunday.

Me too Patrick. I believe they have no confidence in Cliff. Maybe because of preseason play.

All I know is Cliff Russell looked horrible in camp.

He must not be doing as well as McCants or P. Johnson in practice. Neither of those guys played so well in preseason that they would bury Cliff Russell far down the bench. My guess is the kid just ain't cutting it against our defensive backs in practice.

as long as DMC keeps getting open for red zone TDs, Spurrier won't relinquish his #3 spot.

BTW - Spurrier admitted on his TV show a week or so ago that he had made up his mind early in camp that he was going to keep DMC on the roster. (and that was when he was injured) Spurrier likes how DMC rounds out their WR corp.

Hey, Patrick Johnson making catches shouldn't be a major surprise (read the thread on him here at hr.). He is a 5 year vet with stints in Bmore and J'Ville. He is a stud as far as speed goes, and is a "decent" reciever. He could be a #2 or #3 on many teams in the NFL. Obviously, he is not the "go to guy", but is very servicable IMO. I just love or WR core. If Russell could actually hold on to the ball, with his speed, he would be dangerous. Oh, and for those of you that don't know, Cliff Russell and Rashad Bauman faced each other in a college game, and from what I read (some time ago)................RUSSELL TORCHED HIM FOR WELL OVER 100YDS RECEIVING, AND CARVED BAUMAN A NEW ONE! Wow, how's that for irony.

I couldn't name one team that PJ would be a #2 WR on, that's a stretch. He's doing fine for us in the #4 spot, but Jacobs will be working his way in and Johnson will fade away very soon. Russell was such a 'ace in the hole' topic for this forum in the later part of last season and the offseason. Apparently, he's just so far behind the polished guys that its sketchy if he'll ever make it. Oh well, I have no qualms with our WR core this year regardless of Russell being a flop.

The only problem I have with PJ is that he can NEVER stay healthy. You know, he's just one of those guys who is jinxed.
AND if Russell has dropped that far, bring Cloeman up and give him a chance.
IMO, for the SS offensive to KEEP evolving this season it going to need the #5,&6 receivers. I really believe that we've only seen about 50% of the offense so far.

I COULD name a few:

Baltimore Ravens (trust me on this one. I LIVE here).
New York Jets (think about it. Definitely 'possible').
Chicago Bears (need all the help they can get).
San Diego Chargers (couldn't hurt).
Philadelphia Eagles (yeah, them too. Not impressed).
Arizona Cardinals (have ony 1 good WR...and he's a ROOKIE).

........................something to ponder.

I read somewhere, I think the post, that said not only has Cliffe Russel not played but he hasn't even been active or dressed on gamedays. Spurrier said last week the he was going to have 5 wides this week because the WRs were getting tired by the end of the game.

1906, you possibly may have me with the Cards and Ravens. Definitely not the rest. I think the fact that PJ signed in DC knowing he'd have to fight just to make the roster indicates that he's not very valued league wide. If he thought he had even a decent shot at being a #2 anywhere, including Arizona, he'd be there now. The 'market forces' have put him about where his talents have dictated.

Seems like the same approach was taken with Russell too.
