My wife surprised me the other day by telling me after 7 years of marriage, she is pregnant. After waking from the shock enduced coma, I guess it's not such a bad thing. I'm almost 29 and have no kids, and I guess I don't want to be 60 and something happen to my wife and have nothing.
I have to say I am quite scared. I had a terrible childhood and know what NOT to do, but I'm afraid anyway. ESPECIALLY financially.
Any words of wisdom from the group?
Also...if it's a girl, any good name suggestions? If it's a boy it will be named after me, and we'll call him J.T.

My friend, you'll never be the same. A gift of a child is something magnificent, fantastic, wonderful, frustrating, stressful, , oh, hrrmmmmm, hmmm, beautiful.....
Congrats pal. Children are a gift from God. Take it, enjoy it, and you will never be sorry, i promise!

I'm really actually excited about it....just nervous as hell. I don't know how to be a good father. I just know how not to be a terrible one. Of course financially this will put us in quite a pickle.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Personally I was never so scared as when my wife and I left the hospital for the first time with our newborn daughter. I couldn't beleive they were actually letting(making) us leave with her. What the heck did we know about being parents?
That was 8 1/2 years ago. She's doing great! And she has a little sister and a little brother now and they're pretty cool too. (The boy likes the Vikings though - but I'm working on that.)
My advice - enjoy the ride! It goes by pretty fast.

jsarno, congrats dude. I thought that may be what you were talking about when I first saw it.
But honestly, you think you know what love is right now....but the first time they put your newborn in your arms.....Then you'll know what true love is! And about being worried if you're a good dad, just let the instincts take over. You'll be fine! Just make sure you start off right....bring him/her in a Redskins jersy. :D

Seriously, congrats! Instinct will take over when it comes to child care. I have two girls 8 and 4, if me and my wife can do it, anyone can.
One thing I feel I should warn you about your wife, MOOD SWINGS!!!!!!! From one month to the next, from one day to the next, and from one hour to the next. My wife once cried during a toilet paper commercial. Oh, one more thing, the sex for the next 9 months will be great!

Way to score a touchdown Jsarno !! Ah I'm just kidding but that's Awesome news !!
I'm not really a Dad yet, some of ya'll will remember I announced here about 4 months ago that we just found out my wife was 6 weeks pregnant (our first). The best news I have ever heard. The first thing I asked everyone here hR is where do I get Redskins baby outfits. Man, its so much fun getting the cool stuff for your baby to be. The first you should do to be a "good father" is seat down with your child in your arms and tell them all about the best team in football. Seriously Jsarno I don't know what else your into but sharing your life and the world as you know it with your off-spring couldn't be cooler. I haven't even had a chance to get started yet, but I'm psyched as hell.
P.S. I gotta agree with Seeway, watch out for the mood swings.

Congratulations jsarno! Unless you have won the lottery, you're never really ready for it financially, so don't sweat it, you'll figure it out.
My 4th child is due October 24th.
As for girl names.
Hannah Leigh
Hayley Taylor
Madecyn Riley
Caitlyn Nicole

Have you guys ever seen that commercial (I think it's a chips commercial) with An Oakland fan, and a Raven fan (his wife)? The kid has on a raider jersey, but each time the ravens score, the kid says "touchdown". The father tries to say...no, no, no...that's the wrong team...but it doesn't work. The mother walks in with a ravens jersey on and says "that's my boy".
Well, I think that will be me. My wife is a huge Broncos fan, and we might actually be moving to Denver (after the baby is born) which won't help the situation. So is it legal to "beat it" into the kid to be a skins fan? ;) JK.
So where can we get baby redskins clothes?
Thanks for the names robert...I'll let you guys know the sex when I find out in a few months.
Seeway...I already Golf...maybe I should renew the membership to the country club immediately!!!! LOL.
Thanks for the encouragement guys...just hope / pray that it's a boy K?

Thanks, my wife is going on to 23 weeks and although I also wanted a boy .......we're having a girl. But don't get me wrong I'm REALLY happy about it. Her name is going to be Leighton Elizabeth Jackson. She's expected /due January 28th. The only special request I made to my wife is don't go into labor late and have the baby on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb 1st).

Wow, congrats Jsarno. That's great, I know it's been amazing watching my little sis grow up, I can only imagine what it's like with a child of your own....
You could always name it Joe if it's a boy, in case you decide to change that named after his father thing at the last minute. ;)

HAHAHA
So what does everyone think about naming thier child after them?
Keep in mind, most friends have told me it was a pain when they called their friends and the dad picked up after they already asked for the kid. Having the same name does that to people. But my kid will forever be called J.T. (if it's a boy), not after me. So that shouldn't factor into the equasion.
GiG...Jahidi huh? And where in the world did you come up with that name. What does it mean?
(while looking at names, I try to place them with people. If I know good honest people with that name, then it goes on the consideration list...if not, then it gets scratched)

jsarno, Jahidi White is the starting center for the Washington Wizards. The Sacramento equivalent is Vlade Divac. Only Vlade can play. It was just a joke. I was not really suggesting that you named your child Jahidi. I have a better name now.

Congrats JSARNO, it will all come to you a little at a time. taking care of your kid will be a joy! you never quite learn it all, but it is fun trying. my wife and I have 6 kids and are enjoying them all. it is a lot of work but worth it. it can be expensive, but you have a partner to help so it makes it better. God will be with you all.
