View Full Version : Who are you voting for? (corrected)

Starting this over because for some reason I put Joe instead of John McCain, and I can't edit the poll. Wow. That was dumb. Anyways, moving on...
With a few days to go until the election, I thought it might be interesting to get a sense of where hR stands. For most of the people who post in the Potomac, it's pretty clear, but I know there are a bunch of you who read this but don't post much.
It might also be cool to post the state you're voting in.
This is a public poll. If you're not comfortable with people seeing your vote, don't vote.
I'm going Obama, but I live in the District to so it doesn't really matter.

Not voting for office of the President or voting for some other candidate....
I don't care for EITHER candidate and in Delaware, your vote only impacts local elections any way.

I'm not going to vote in this poll yet because I'm still undecided but will choose someone before Tuesday.
I have eliminated John McCain because he's offered nothing except not being Barack Obama. He's run his campaign with a field goal mentality while playing a prevent defense. Should he really be shocked that he's trailing in the polls?
I have yet to decide if I can bring myself to vote for Obama. I like much of what he says but there is just not enough of a history there to provide me an understanding of his demonstrated political ideals. I had pretty much settled on him but when he made that "spread the wealth around" comment, it really brought me back to undecided.
If I cannot settle on Obama, I will be writing in a candidate, yet again. Not sure who that would be, though. Maybe Keino, being that he's relaxed his militant views, lol.
Not that it matters who I vote for. I'm not voting in New Mexico or Ohio. I live in Maryland, who would elect Saddam Hussein if he ran as a Democrat. However, I do have to justify the decision to myself; I like tio believe in my decisions and I don't particular appreciate getting hoodwinked because I didn't do my due diligence.

Also the one who called 911 to complain about traffic. Not the one I wanted to put in this poll. My bad, that was really dumb. Sorry.
I couldn't edit the poll so I made a new one. Any mods want to merge these posts over there?

We have in-person absentee voting (which sounds a lot like me in college). The lines were ridiculous and people told me it would take over 2 hours. Nuts.
This year, I have to say the newbies are pissing me off. Sure I am glad people are participating but the lines are going to be obnoxious.

I guess my point was, I am sure Steele didn't have a sign like that in say, Allegany or Wicomico counties.
I am so glad Obama hasn't run as "The black candidate" ala Jesse Jackson.
BTW - IN all seriousness, I don't consider Steele an Uncle Tom. I don't think he takes self-loathing political positions.

I voted...not voting. It'll actually be the first year I havent voted since becoming eligible some 16 years ago. I'm just not sold on either candidate and doubt either will be able to fullfill their campaign promises with our record setting deficit, failing economy and fractured war on terror. I'm a registered republican but Bush has soured me on the party over the last 8 years, I tended to vote republican because of the conservative famuily values and their penchant for funding the military. However I've noticed over the last few years that on many issues I tend to side with the democrats line of thinking. I'm just not sure Obama is experienced enough, nor am I convinced that he'll be able to fund half of his intiatives that set him apart from McCain.

I've decided to throw caution to the wind and vote for Obama. I have serious reservations about him but I have more reservations about McCain, who has done little to distinguish what his administration would look like as compared to the current travesty.
That said, I'm afraid it's much ado about nothing, in my case. I've been tormenting myself over this for months but, living in MD, my vote really doesn't matter either way. In the end, however, I choose to believe in hope; in the positive over the negative or, at least, the absence of policy. I'm tired of writing in names for President every 4 years (although I have a few good ones I could have used). When and if it comes back to kick me in the balls (hope is a dirty whore, lol) I can always fall back on my desire to be idealistic. ;)
But watch out, world. If Obama and the Dem supermajority screw the pooch, I will be running for public office. Book it, bitches, lol.

I'm voting for Obama. My reasoning:
1. This state is going to McCain no matter what, so my vote really doesn't mean much.
2. I'm pissed off at the Pubs for how much $$ they've spent the last 8 years. Don't claim to be the fiscally responsible party and then do this, you punks. This is my middle finger to the Pubs.
3. If congress goes as blue as I suspect, and Obama is pres, then he's either going to have to have the balls to veto a few things, or he's going to guarantee that the Dems will lose congress within 4 years.

your attitude is not unusual, in fact i think people all over in a similar state of mind are the primary reason republicans are seeing such shrinkage in party ID. i doubt you've become any more liberal (i dont know you personally, but you remind of of friends of mine who are also reluctant obama-supporting conservatives). you're simply angry at the obvious hipocrisy of the republicans. if the republicans get back to legit conservative principals, i am guessing, you'll be back on board. (nothing wrong with that)
the democrats pretty much have this election in the bag, but they cannot get complacent. the republicans will come back strong, assuming they get the message frustrated conservatives are sending them this cycle.

I have gotten quite a bit more liberal, at least socially. I'm still a fiscal conservative, but socially I'm getting tired of the Pubs pandering to the RR. If two dudes want to get married and stop having sex, that is their problem, not mine. I think abortion is deplorable, but the way the law is, its legal and should stay that way.
But yeah, if the Pubs get back to not being hypocritical, I'll probably vote that way again. If they keep up with the same crap....

I've not identified myself with either Reps or Dems in a long time. Being more of a centrist, I am a fiscal moderate/conservative and a social moderate/liberal. Since neither candidate could ease my concerns about runaway spending and unbridled government growth, the tiebreaker was, in part, social issues. Since I'm not a big fan of warantless wiretaps and the intrusions of a perpetually orange level threat condition, I think Obama will leave me alone more that McCain would.

Oh, I'm not upset, I'm just explaining my views. I think your analysis is pretty spot on for quite a few voters. I know that there will be a much closer than normal vote in this state, even though McCain will win hands down, and the reason is exactly what you stated.

I really dont' think it matters at this point. Obama has been the victor for several months. George W and the old canidate who refused to throw him under the bus gave this election away on a silver platter. It just so happened they gave it away to someone with a lot of charisma, and that has double trouble for the Republicans.
I personally had reservations about both canidates, but I pulled my party line (absentee - no lines!) for no good reason, really. I lean more right than left, so guess there is your answer. But it really didn't matter since I expect VA to go Blue anyway.
I'm still super pissed at my party for not pointing the finger at W like they should have. I'll be excited about the right's politics the day they actually start putting some young, talented and charismatic people into elections. They havent' done that in a while, and its no surprise when we lose a ton more congressional seats.
As long as my taxes don't go up, and I'm not asked to pay someone else's way, I'll be content with Obama. He seems like a nice guy, but we will see if he lives up to his promises.
Either way, I'm fed up with politics as well as those how like to argue about them. As soon as Obama becomes president, the staunch Republicans will go from the defensive to the attack and the staunch Democrats will go from the attack to the defensive and both sides will look like raging hypocrites in the process. I'm sick of it.

My state isn't really up for grabs, but I ended up swinging to McCain after leaning Barack for almost the whole campaign.
If I'm right about both candidates, I could live with either of them. If I'm wrong, Barack is only going to be more liberal than I want, and MCCain would only be more conservative (which I would want), so I hedge my bets with McCain. It's more thought out than that, but that's the gist.
In any case, I'm preparing for an Obama presidency.
I'm off to the polls.
