Hard for me to believe it's been so long since that album was released. :mfast:

"Back in the early '90s, an infant boy was dropped into a swimming pool and photographed underwater in his birthday onesie. That surreal image went on to become the cover art for arguably the most influential album of the whole decade, Nirvana's breakthrough LP, 'Nevermind.'

Now, the all-growed-up cover boy has gone back to the original pool in Pasadena, Calif. and recreated that image -- complete with the dollar bill fishing lure and a new accessory: shorts."

Sucks his parents only got like $200. Because we all know how well that album sold. Im sure he is getting a few bucks by doing the remakes.

Here's part 1 of a multipart series on how they made that album. For the other parts, just click on the poster's name. Very interesting stuff, and very well done.

I still remember looking through that CD cover and then seeing a pic on the back and saying "holy crap, I went to high school with the drummer!"

As a native Alexandrian, I can tell you that Dave did indeed go to school with Dave Grohl. We have had conversations about it because I have friends that also went to school with him.

I wasn't so privileged, I went to a public school in Alexandria, VA, unlike those private school fags. ;)

Another notable rock star that went to high school in Alex, VA was Jim Morrison. He was in the public school system-- either GW or Hammond, I can't remember right now. Either or, they merged into TC Williams -- you know, Remember the Titans , though his girlfriend was at St.Mary's.

BTW, Go Edison Eagles!

Edit- One more thing, thank Gawd that garbage music is dead., yet, Metal is still alive and well.

Yup; it was TC Williams. The Rock-N-Roll HOF in Cleveland has some memorabilia of Morrison's from TC Williams; althought I can't exactly remember what. I think it was a letter from a guidance councelor or principal...

That was glam and good riddance to that. Funny thing to see those poseurs and what they look like today. Needless to say, I don't think many of them wear those skin tight leopard print pants anymore.

Agreed, I liked the grunge movement and it did exactly what it set out to do. It killed all the glam and over the top excess of the late eighties music. Now not all of that movement was horrible. I'll admit I have a couple power ballads on the ipod and the solo from I'll Remember You is still one of my favorites lol. Grunge brought rock back down to basics and allowed for alot of creativity as well as some negatives like the fads and fashion trends, but that is expected of any form that becomes popular. We need another movement like that to rid us of the garbage that is strangling popular music now, such as pop-punk, emo, and the 795,000 bands that sound like nickleback. God that band makes me want to puke.

On a somewhat related note, I recently scored tickets to AC/DC in Dec. Can't wait!

The garbage today was all spawned from the grunge movement. Overly simplistic music with strained vocals... yeah, that describes a lot of the emo crap today. Where did that influence come from? Kurt Cobain. He is the emo icon and his suicide makes him an emo messiah.

Trends are what they are, in and out. The music from bands like Sabbath, Maiden and Priest never gets old.

AC/DC is always a great show. You will enjoy it. I've seen them a few times, even though I lost interest in them pretty much after Back In Black. They are like Motorhead, always consistent, always great live but never progressive.

Yeah, if you are deeply into Sabbath, Maiden and Priest. lol

Same could be said for us Grunge-heads, who think Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Nirvana never get old.

;)Yeah but those 3 bands I named have been making music for over 40 years and I got to see each one of them live this year. ;)

Eh, I would put the emo movement more on earlier bands like Morrisey(sp?), The Cure, Depeche Mode, and from the grunge era, Smashing Pumpkins ( which I liked) not on Nirvana. Music always goes in cycles and we just happen to be in the crap cycle right now lol. IMO there have only been a handful of good groups to emerge in the last 10 years or so. White Stripes and System of a Down of the top of my head are bands that I have really enjoyed.

As far as Maiden and Priest, I never really got into the metal bands with the opera type singers. Not that I thought they were bad or anything just not my taste. I think because I liked punk first I was drawn more to the later speed metal movement like Metallica and Megadeth.

I had to Wiki the definition of Emo and I sampled a Fall Out Boy track. Man, that's pretty awful.
I figure that Green Day is the standard-bearer for American Rock 'n Roll right now. Apologies to the oldies acts. I remember when GD won a grammy recently and the lead singer (what's-his-name) said something like "Thanks to the radio stations for still playing rock..." That's pretty sad, and I hope that rock is hibernating right now and we see some good stuff emerge soon.
