Strong-side linebacker Marcus Washington will be out indefinitely because of a high-ankle sprain.
"Just found out," said Washington, who sat out two games this season because of recurring hamstring problems. "I'm just going to listen to the trainers and see what they say. We just don't know yet."
Washington, who had a limited role in practice last week because of a shoulder injury, wore a boot today at Redskins Park. He also experienced hamstring problems last season.
"Stuff happens when you play this game," Washington said. "What matters is how you handle it."That may be all she wrote for MW as a Redskin. He's had a real tough time the last few years due to injury and decline .... I cannot see us bringing him back next year unless its the form of an incentive-laden contract
The H.B. Blades era begins (continues?) against Seattle ....

Unlike some here, I think this hurts. It helped having a Washington/Blades combo at the position. Blades was getting more time. Now, we lack crucial depth at another position.

blades couldnt come close to handling witten.. he needs to be in the middle where his lack of size doesnt hurt
what about fincher ?

MW didnt give us much but it did help to have he and Blades from a depth perspective. I just hope Blach doesnt use the obviously washed up MW as his new Holdman next year...MW is done at LB along with OL and DL are areas that cannot be ignored unless we are gonna bite the bullet and start re-building.

Other than the lack of experience and the fact that he may be out of place from time to time he couldnt give us much less than MW has this year...because Blades is too small to be a consistent force outside.

I would like to see Fincher out there personally, I cant believe with the way he played in the preseason that he has yet to see any action on defense.

Id now like to see Jason Taylor playing OLB. Have him split time with Blades or Fincher.

If Blache thought much of Fincher we would have seen him on the field a lot more this year. Obviously he doesn't otherwise why does Blades play almost exclusively when MW's unavailable? The concern you have over Blade's lack of size is obviously something the coaches have seen but yet they still put Blades out there every time because apparently Fincher cannot or has not shown that he can play ....
Also, FYI, Fincher's not much bigger. While he's definitely a bit taller (2-3 inches) than Blades he doesn't outweigh him by much at all if any

that would seem to be a good position for him in a 3/4 ..BUT can he drop into coverage and run with a TE ? i doubt he can do it at this stage of his career

Im telling you put Taylor there. He has the athleticism to play that spot. I mean he couldn't do any worse than Washington could he?

Im willing to bet he can. I know down in Miami he would drop into coverage a good bit. He has 7 career picks. Thats got to be more than Rogers.

Fincher has a height advantage over Blades which would help in coverage but Im not sure if he's up to speed on the D enough to be in the right position in coverage...guess we may find out. As for Gateewood Id have to think Fincher is ahead of him.

gatewood has already been cut once from the PS.. so obviously he has a long way to go

Good night, Sally.
I've always been a big fan of Marcus', and I hope he's proud of his NFL career. He should be. He was a great and fun player to root for.

Marcus has lost a a step (or more) but I love the guy anyway. Blades was not impressive last night. We are at our best when we can use both guys.
If this is the end for him, he can certainly hold his head high. He was an absolute beast for us for a couple years.

Of course Blades was not impressive, hes a MLB. Hes undersized and just not quick enough to play outside, Fincher needs to get some game time.

That's probably his career.
Thanks for the years you gave us, MW. I still remember what a monster you were when you first came here.

It is sad to see a player that i like, really go downhill and seems to be the last one to know. That being said it is time to go in a different direction this offseason. In a perfect world ( as perfect as having only 4 picks can be ) , Hall will work out, SS will be let go , sign a LB like dansby , possibly a cb like gamble, then use the draft for oline and dline. Again, that is in a perfect world, meaning that this years rookies all work out and new picks too...but it is a lot of wishful thinking. GO SKINS !!!!!

Why would you bring in Chris Gambel if you already have Rogers, Smoot and Hall on the roster even if you get rid of Springs? Were not going to pick a defensive lineman in the first round because we never do. Vinny will go on and on about our defensive line being in great shape and we will continue to get absolutely no pressure on the QB, meanwhile everyone else in the NFC east understands drafting pass rushers.

Thats why it says in a perfect world. I would rather see Tryon work out then having gamble, but we will need a 4th corner if none of the young guys work out. I agree that we probably wont do dline with our first pick. Whatever happens, we have holes that NEED to be addressed, and need to be addressed THIS offseason...oline,DT,LB i think are the most pressing. GO SKINS !!!!

I know this sounds crazy Shally but I think Fincher is gonna light it up if he gets a shot. He was just like Horton in preseason, making plays all over the field and I really think that could translate. But Blache has to give the guy a chance to begin with.

MW is done as a Redskin. We all love the guy for his personality, enthusiasm and his first 2 years as a Skin but he's had too many injury problems. I think that hip issue he had really contributed to his decline.
Moving forward, we're really lacking depth at the LB pos. Fletch is a monster, but for how much longer? HB Blades is decent but I just don't see "IT" in him yet to call him a bonafide starter. Rocky is a bit fragile IMHO. Some of you might think I'm being harsh in saying that but still, he has knee issues. If we're not careful, we might be forced into a really bad position by injuries to Fletch and Rocky. We need to draft a LB early AND late and maybe even take a chance on a URFA/RFA. This of course is in addition to our D-line Woes and O-line age.

I hope so. I didn't see much of the pre-season but I hope Fincher is the answer. If he is, it would go a long way in easing our minds.

Blades is a MLB and plays on the outside like one. He's not suited to play for long stretches out there. The Redskins would be better suited to put Fincher, who has some speed, out there instead.

agreed. We need to see what Fincher has. Even if it's just in packages. HB can't cover a rec. TE.

Can we just take Marcus out behind the shed and shoot him?
Ok, it's just a joke but you all get the metaphor. He is done. Looks like we have quite a few overpaid vets that have outlived their usefulness.
1. MW - 6.4M cap # '08
2. Jansen - 4.5M
3. Springles - 7.4M
4. ARE - 2.7M
I'm sure some here could add a couple more to the list but I would start with those 4.
That's a lot of salary cap money right there.

MW should take an "injury settlement" lol. Can we cut him?
Jansen should rework his deal so he can retire a skin.
Cut Springs
I say Cut ARE provided that Kelly and DThomas show us something before the year is done.

Are would be great in the slot, Jansen is done but you need a replacement , hes better than the average back up despite his poor pass pro...he can run block with the best of them. MW is done but Im calling it now...he'll be Blaches new Holdman and be on the team next season and Springs, well hopefully, Hall and this season is lessening Blaches man crush on him.

All they have to do then is bring a RB on a fake reverse out of the back field causing JT to have to follow him each time. It would be a miss-match every time, your best pass rusher taken out of the play.
The saints do this alot with Reggie Bush, fake the reverse to him cause the LBer to take him in the flat to get a 1 on 1.

That's the most insincere "thanks" I've seen in awhile, lol
Linebacker, specifically SAM, is one position we should probably look to target in FA. I'm all for adding some depth, especially OLB, in the later rounds of the draft but we have huge needs earlier (with limited picks). Fortunately, we've had some success with free-agent LBs (remember Trotter and Barrow, sorry, lol) in the past. MW and Fletcher both being very good ones.
