Anyone have a chance to breakdown what happened to the Oline on Sunday? I was unable to Tivo the game so I can't go back and look.
One thing I noticed was that Rabach was getting beat up the middle alot, as he was against Cleveland, which is especially hard to deal with.
It also seemed that the Cowboys did not need to blitz very often to get the pressure they did.
I'd be interested to see how the OL 'graded out' individually.

I thought i remember in another thread about the skins OL vs. 3-4 defense. I think PITTS showed all 3-4 teams some tricks or too.
Also since the cowboys dont have a huge NT to take up double teams, we have Ratliff that shoots the gaps 1 way or another, Some how Rabach has to let Ratliff go a way and then just keep pushing him that way to open the hole up.

ratliff positively owned the interior of the line

Ratliffe was a non-factor in the first game, what changed? Franly, the biggest disappointment I had vis-a-vis Ratliffe was him beating Thomas on the Stunt. Randy ducked his head and Ratliffe gave him an arm-over and was gone. A very sad play from a guy who is better than that in Thomas.
In general, this game made me buy the PSL on my seat in the Draft Alex Mack bandwagon.

I was at the game and haven't watched the DVR yet, so this could change, but I thought the whole unit sucked. I graded them accordingly:
Samuels: B-
Jansen: F
Thomas: D
Rabach: C-
Kendall: C+

Rabach was a "D" in my mind. The guy follows a great game with a terrible one and is so up and down I can't figure him out. Rabach seems to do OK against the 350# maulers where he can get low and play leverage. Where he seem to get his butt handed to him is when he faces a more active guy closer to his height, like Ratliffe or Tuck, and can't get his hands engaged fast enough.
Jansen did better than I thought he would but is still a weakness in every aspect of the game except drive blocking.
Samuels actually did better than usual against Ware and gutted out an "A" performance in my mind.
Kendall held his own as he normally does and was noticibly good on run plays.
Randy Thomas had a down game and was a disappointment to me and I am sure to himself.
Strangley, what seemed to hurt us more than anything was the twists and stunts. A veteran group like this is usually better at getting to those because of their communication. I think if I were to hang the loss on any one thing, though, it would be this.

Newman was back and was able to lock up better 1 on 1 with Moss, so that allows us to better cover deep, and allow more guys to rush the passer. Also the defense was playing a dont break the first game and the shorter throws were able to move the sticks. Now we were able to play tighter coverages and allow the front seven to get after the QB more with more pressure.

Jansen is the weak link on this line and Rabach is right behind him. Its time to start thinking about Heyer and Rhinehart. Jansen needs to be benched, the worse thing to happen to this line was Heyer getting hurt. Jansen is almost like a case of Brunnell all over again, well past his prime but somehow gets the team to play him.

Newman was a walking disaster area against Moss in the first game, so it wasn't him that made the difference.

I dont agree with you. It was obvious to anyone watching the game that the dallas defenders didnt even worry about the deep ball. Moss got behind Newman on the deep pass but simply dropped it. Newmans a decent corner and nothing more, I have never understood the infatuation people have with this guy. Not to mention your rookie DB mike jenkins has draft bust written all over him, what a pansy. Although he did get away with one hell of a hold on Thomas to stop that drive.

why would they even have to respect the deep ball ? their d line had pressure constantly and JC had no chance.. it simply wasnt an option and moss couldnt come down with the one real opportunity we had..

I realize that Moss dropped the one, but I think we should have tried that at least three or four times, and earlier in the game. When you dink and dunk that much, the defense is going to move up.

I think they were trying to set up something deep but the pressure on Jason was just too much.
Every big third down play seemed to end up with Jason on the ground.

Samuels and Kendall both played pretty well. I would have given Kendall a B+, actually. He gave up no sacks and was a force in the run game. Samuels played very well, except for a few bad plays in pass protection, so B-. Same with Thomas, save one sack given up. Jansen was not that bad. He played a little below average and didn't dominate in any phase but I don't recall him giving up a sack. Maybe a C- for Jansen. Rabach was the weak link last night in both blocking and calling. I give him the F.

I would disagree with you on Jansen. While he didn't give up a sack, he was constantly getting pushed backwards, making JC move. Thomas and Rabach were getting beat pretty good on running plays and I'm not sure why.

yep. i was mad at the lack of downfield passing as well, until i realized you can't throw it deep when your QB doesn't even have time to throw a slant.

On my drive home today I listened to Cerattos's show. He kept talking about fundamentals. My thought was how can this veteran group be talking about fundamentals. Watching Zorn now and he is talking about the same thing after a reported asked the question. To me that is a sign something (not sure what) needs to change on the line. We may be stuck here for the most part the rest of the year but we need some new blood up there.
Was at the game so saw no replays really but on pass plays the line just seemed overwhelmed. Is Jansen really done here as a starter? is it as simple as that or just a start?

That's why I gave him a C-. His run blocking was meh and his pass blocking was slightly less than meh. A few of the deep push backs he got were screens. A few others were run outs.
