I know some people will think I am stupid but I had to have a my wifes cat put to sleep today and it completely tore me up. This was one of the worst things I have ever had to do. My wife had this cat since she got her from the humane shelter 13 and a half years ago, the cat had been with her longer than I have. She is going to have areally bad time with this, I knew it would be rough for me but man it was worse than I thought.
Sorry, I just had to tell someone:( :(

Death is sad. Why do you think that people will think that you are stupid?

Jeff, Don't ever think that you are stupid because you're showing emotion.

I am very sorry for you and your wife!

My kids asked me when they were little whether there'd be animals in heaven...

I said, "God created Heaven to make us happy...and since animals make us happy here on Earth, why wouldn't there be animals in Heaven?

I have had my cat for over 10 years...my little Lady (thats her name) has been there for me and my wife through all the hard times. Pets are family and it is always hard to lose a family member. Best wishes to both of you.

I also feel your pain. I don't know what I'll do when I have to do that to my dog down the road. (she is a puppy now) Pets literally become part of the family.

Jeff, I know exactly what you're going thru....kinda. 2 years ago, a friend gave my son a kitten for his 4th B-day. [with our blessing]

Well, two months after we got "Domino" my friend had to put down the mother due to felion leukimia. We just knew that Domino had it. Sure enough six months later he stopped eating and playing. Then he would hide all day long. So I took him to the Vet figuring that they would give him some medicine and he'd be good to go for a while longer. They ran some tests on him and found that he'd be better off to go ahead and put him to sleep. When they took him from my arms to put him under, I felt like I was killing him. And then how am I going to Caleb that his kitty wasn't coming back?

I tell ya, I cried like a baby for hours. Never thought I cared that much...boy was I wrong.

That is one of the saddest stories I have ever heard.

I've had to put down pets before and it's the worst feeling that I've ever had.

I feel for you putting down pets horribly sad.

Yup. No embarassment here man. I have three dogs and i have no idea what i am going to do when one has to be put down. I had a three year old Cocker Spaniel, Remie, put down five years ago, hardest thing i ever, ever had to do, but i knew it was the right thing to do. It was even harder that she was only three. She had a bad skin disease and was actually starting to bleed. They said the only way to "save" her was steroids, which in two years would destroy her kidneys. To me, it was a no-brainer. I loved Remie enough to not put her through that.

The lesson here Jeff, I know it is sad, i know it hurts, but sometimes, putting them to sleep is the loving and humane thing to do. Try and grasp that, maybe you will feel better. I actually fought back tears for Remie, she was my first dog being on my own, and it hurt, but i still know to this day, I did the right thing.
