Vinnie/Zorn egos won't allow us to sign him. They clearly felt like Mason dissed them in going to Baltimore in August which is why they brought in bum ass Keebler....

So...he can't make the Skins roster...can't make the Ravens roster...and gets cut by the Jets.
We want him back, why?

I would take him because he doesn't need any time to get up to speed .... not sure we need him right now Portis is really banged up

Rock Cartwright made the Redskins roster, was a free agent this off-season and garnered ZERO interest.
If it were up to me, Rock would have been the one cut......but silly me, I want younger players with upside as opposed to non-talents who have peaked....

While I wouldn't go so far as to cut Rock (unless ARE takesover kick returns :D), I would have looked long and hard at keeping Mason. To call a comparison to Lumsden is inaccurate b/c JL never led the NFL in rusjing in the preseason.

Sign him. Put him on the PS and if we ever get mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, getting him some playing time.

If we could get Roger Goodell to change NFL rules concerning backwards and sideways running (crediting the runner for the yards he gains no matter what direction he is going), then ARE would be the best return man in the NFL.

To be fair, Billy McMullen led the NFL in receiving this preseason too.

Man, you're on a roll today! You and I have never been this in sync??? Hey, maybe RG can throw in a 5 yard bonus for an "ineffective juke-like twitch".

McMullen > ARE :D
Look, I am not championing MM as even the next #2 on the depth chart. All I have I ever said is that I loved how the kid made one cut and started going North and South. In some respects he was a little better than CP in that regard, but I haven't seen Portis having the "stutter step" issue in a LONG while.
I don't get too riles up about coaching decision b/c I am not in practice every day, but I haven't felt like we kept someone who did anything better or more than MM to not warrant getting a look... I trust the coaching staff to make those calls until the coaching staff starts losing credability with me.

I would claim Mason on waivers for the next 3 games. I wouldn't even give him the option of not signing with us. I would bring him back to camp next year and let him compete.

I am sure Vinny is too busy preparing for his radio show to be bothered with stuff like "Waiver Wire Reports", "Scouting Reports", "Scouting" or any other GM related duties........

Hopefully Biggie can do it better than Cerrato.... 1) He would receive his punishment... 2) He would free us from Vinnie finally!
BTW, I can't believe a RB with Mason credentials and potential has been cut again!

just maybe that might give us a clue as to just how good mason really is...
apparently we werent the only ones who thought he wasnt roster worthy.
that makes 3 teams now
he doesnt look to be the next priest holmes right now...

probably a better returner, despite the one fumble.. on the other hand, give rock his due, he is great on coverage teams...

lol I know shally....just saying we can find st's guys that can tackle, he's not irreplaceable and is at a position that we could really use a better 3rd option. I'd be fine with keeping him around for that reason alone if he played LB.

every team needs a player like that.. unfortunately we have more than one. khary campbell, thrash, rock, fincher appear to be ST's guys without a potential to be more than a deep reserve.. K moore and tryon also fit into that category now as they try to move up the depth chart..
sellers and lo alexander are both position players and good special teamers.. maybe moore next year ? we need more of guys like that

agreed, its fine to have a couple of ST only guys but I'd like our 3rd RB to be a lil more than just that if at all possible.

see the giants for example A
see the ravens for example B
we need a 3rd RB who brings something to the runningback position.
i sure hope we can get a guy like ward, sproles, or morris for this role next year.. or perhaps even find a guy late in the draft or as a free agent...

dont jump off a cliff..
but with all the young o linemen we have just signed, i dont expect or hope for, more than 1 lineman in the draft...that would give us geisinger, ross, clark, heyer, riley, batitste, montgomery, reinhart and maybe kerry brown to go after those reserve positions.. watch and see, we will go after maybe 1 lineman and the excuse will be all these guys we already have

got a rope lol...those guys are largely scrubs imo, I have hope fopr a few but the guys we just added woulda been working if they had been good imo. Clark showed promise, we didnt IR Brown from what Ive seen and surely he'd be healed by now wouldnt he...cant remember what his injury was. Im fine with one OL in the draft and one DL IF we also add one of each via young veteran free agents.

I have no doubt in my mind that he would have gotten us more than the 24 yards that Shaun Alexander got on those 11 carries while Betts was out.
I still think Mason can play in this league. I doubt that the Jets really gave him much of an opportunity, in games certainly, and probably even in practice.

ive been in masons corner since the third preseason game. he was clearly much better than rock could ever be despite fumbling that opening kickoff. (admittedly he was in my lumsden grouping prior to that).
i wish we signed him instead of SA after LB went down. but that would have made too much sense, so i understand the move to SA...:smash:

i think it will end up
1 OL
1 DL
1 LB
1 CB (we always have to have one of those no matter what)
1 RB
more if we get additional picks and i think we will be active in free agency once again

As long as that's the case then I'm all for it. The draft alone wont be enough if we have any hopes of getting over the "average" hump next season.

IMO we have too many players like this...good hustle on maybe 4 to 5 plays a game. We need playmakers... difference makers....guys who alter the outcome of games....game changers if you will. Something to talk about on monday mornings about "wow, this dude can BALL!" I cant remember the last time I felt that way about a player here.
