So i read now on rotoworld that Portis' back is so bad he can't bend at the waist.

Who else is scared of 15 years from now reading that Portis needs a wheelchair to get around. He's tough, but i feel bad for him when the rest of the team is in dissaray

Sorry to start another thread about this, the season is about over but he's once again "questionable" for sunday

Portis is having back spasms, which are extremely uncomfortable and painful but not serious. He'll be alright for Sunday, not that it matters now... pride and padding stats is all he will be playing for.

Tons of football players have wrecked their bodies for a lot less.

I would sit him. I don't see what purpose it serves to get him another 40 carries in the next two useless games.

I tend to agree. The Eagles is the final home game, so let him run a few plays late and then give the fans an opportunity to send him off the right way. The P.A. announcer could say "Substituting for Clinton Portis is..." and that would cue the crowd to stand and cheer as CP walks off like a stud. Even use a time out to do it. He deserves it.

Don't make him play at SF. He's beat up.

Honestly, he's living on borrowed time for his body. He gives so much of himself when he runs, but he only truthfully has a little left in the tank before his general pain is chronic 24/7. Better start to look at a replacement for the future. When the Skins are finally competitive in the next few seasons, his body won't be around to contribute what he wants to contribute. Dream on if you must, but it will not help the running game.

I'd definitely shut portis down, whoever is the coach and whatever this team looks like next year the offense will still go through Portis, no use in putting his body through more abuse when we're actually better off losing so we can get a higher draft pick to waste.

Agree. Makes one wonder why Snyderato gave him such a large, long term, guaranteed contract, doesn't it?

that is really the key issue here. how much productivity he really has left ?

my guess is the he is a lot like curtis martin, and may have more than people give him credit for.

as long as his legs hold out, he will be okay

Unfortunately Martin was an exception to the rule. I hope he isn't Shaun Alexander 2.0 in a few years due to all the money tied up in him.

Portis' numbers haven't peaked, his career arc is looking more like Martin every year. Alexander really only had a great 3 year run(2003-2005) and 2 good years(01 and 02). Portis is much more consistent than that(only 1 non injury year under 1300 yards, but he had almost 400 yards receiving that year).

You can say that again. At 27, Portis has 2001 carries. At 27, Martin had 2010 (With 2 games left, I imagine Portis eclipses Martin's total).

Alexander only had 1300+ carries at 27.

Portis will finish this season way ahead of Martin in yardage also. At least 1300 yards ahead.

I would love to get Curtis Martin for the next 4 years. Martin only played less than 15 games one season (besides his final season in 05), whereas Portis does seem more banged up and already has two seasons under 15 games. I'm not making assumptions, and in fact i think Portis has gas in the tank.

This season has just seemed to wear down on him more than I remember. I think another year with our aged OLine will start making him look like Edgerrin out there.

Both Martin and Portis are/were workhorses though. I think his toughness will allow him to play another 3-4 years of productive football. Hopefully he can win a rushing title in one of those seasons like Martin

I say if he feels up to playing then play him. We do need to look for the next guy. I sure wish they would have kept Mason...could of been the next Brian Westbrook in our West Coast Offense....?

I see no reason to wreck portis is he is really hurt.

For his mouth, he still has played like a real warrior this season. Let's see is Betts can carry a load. NOT.

not even close.

jeff george had amazing talent, from the neck down and was a first round pick

mason wasnt even a 7th round draft pick and has not been able to stick on anyone's roster

there you go... much close to the mark..lol

not to beat a dead horse, but even henson was highly regarded coming out of a big time program at michigan.. then chose to look at baseball
more like gibby hamdan versus brady
