Just saw this. This guy was my first favorite Redskins defensive player as a kid. I'll never forget how ferocious he was, and that headband he used to wear. I also remember him starting a chant in '79 that was a precursor to the "We Want Dallas" chant. We were beating the Bengals and he was chanting, "Dallas, you next, Dallas, you next!"

And how about these apples:

TWENTY SIX SACKS in one season (1976). If they had been officially documenting sack stats back then, he'd have the all-time record.

Coy Bacon was a great, not good, defensive end and a guy who played the game with passion. If we had guys on this Redskins team who played with a fraction of the heart and fury that Coy Bacon brought every Sunday, we would be playing meaningful games in January.

RIP, Mr. Coy Bacon.

A great player and a great Redskin. He doesn't get mentioned enough when people talk about the great pass rushers. Rest in peace, Coy. My condolences to his family.

For once, I feel like a youngin here. Sorry to say that I've never heard of Mr. Bacon. I wish I could say that I remember him but....

Interestingly enough, Coy Bacon was replaced by Dexter Manley. How lucky can you get with pass rushers. R.I.P.

It's a whole different breed of players than say, 15-20 years ago. Men played with pride and passion. They had a sense of "team".
Coy "Makin" Bacon was all of that and more. When I used to go to RFK and see him, I was in awe of his size. The man was a monster and feared by opposing offenses.
RIP Coy. You were one of the great ones to ever play here.

Man I was just talking about him 2 weeks ago. Came to the team along with Leaping Lemar Parrish in trade for a number one pick. Both good adds.

He was not the only pass rush then, he was a book end to the Dancing Bear Ron McDole. Granted at the end of McDoles carreer if I remember right.

RIP to another classic Redskin.

I wasnt old enough to see him play live and in person, but I certainly know who he is. Was he named to the Skins all-time 70th Anniversary team? I couldnt recall.

RIP, Coy.

I would guess no because he didn't play for the Skins that long (4-5 years) and was not on a Championship team.
