FYI: This is the Tony Kornheiser article on penalties...not the Edwards article on sacks.

I'm glad Edwards is not worried by the lack of sacks. I am. I wonder if he is also not worried about the lack of turnovers.

Thanks DJ. I've corrected the link but the Wash Post seems to be having some problems this morning.

I'm not. We did no upgrading on the Line so i knew we would suck at pass rush again. Thats a given

We knew we were going to stink but still, you have to worry about it... don't you?

That D rules...
They held the Jets to 7 points.
They scored 9 points vs. Atlanta. (including the go ahead points for the win)
If not for a double penalty on 3/29 they'd have held the giants to 14. (one MENTAL break down in 3 games, but the PERFORMANCE is always there)
The offense leads in penalties including the needless ones like taunting. There is far more room for improvement on offense than on defense.
Again the offense is the "favored son" and the defense is the "red-headed step child".

I am worried as well. The three INTs were not bad, though.

Our D will get better as the season progresses ,in my opion our offense playing so conservative hasnt helped the D.I think we are average or slightly above against the run.We have no pass rush and thats why we wont be a SB team but we can still be a solid playoff contender. And I believe LA will turn in a few along with Smith.Upshaw was recognizeable this w/e for a change and should improve by seasons end.Zellner has applied a little pressure and overall we have alot of new guys and I think that by seasons end we will be a much better team.

I actually heard the flip side to this from Doc Walker today on the John Thompson show. He stated that Spurrier was playing to the strength of the team yesterday which he felt was the defense because how well they played in the first half.

The lack of sacks is killing my fantasy team

Not worried about the sacks as much as I'm about pressure. If we get good push and apply the pressure enough to be disruptive they I'm satisfied with that. Of course to accomplish this we have to gamble on D. Yeah we might get better as the year progress but with our current players, I think what you see is what we'll get. ........ Get ready to play some poker!!!

Maybe that is why people are so tough on the D - Fantasy & stats. But in reality that D is doing a good job.
Again vs. the Pats the O tried to give the game away. That final drive was as ugly a thing as I have ever seen (I'd have to go back to the "Bevis & Butthead game vs. the Giants where Bevis ripped off his helmet & butthead ran his head into the wall).
That being said, I feared a lot more moments like that final drive before the season started just because of all the new part (QB/<year of play, 4 WRs new, 3 RBs/1yr or less, 4 new OGs). Still got to work a lot of kinks to out.
