View Full Version : New York: A joke with no punch line

Caroline Kennedy? Really? The mere fact that she is even being considered tells you all you need to know about that state being nothing more than a shill for dems without a home. I guess Paterson is not only blind but deaf and dumb too.

Patterson might be looking to 2010 and running for Senate by himself lol. The funniest was the interview she did with the NYT, where their relatively easy questions flustered her and she started ripping them.

She's never been anything but JFK's daughter. Sorry, I don't think that qualifies her for the Senate.

Agreed. This is a farce and her re-election chances are DOA.

Why? It's New York.

If she's a total joke(which is very possible), then someone like Patterson or Weiner will challenge her in the primary. If she beats them, then I bet Rudy could beat her in the general.

Well that doesn't seem very smart to do at all.

From Patterson's side this is a smart mmove as he gets a kennedy on the ballot during his re-election year and access I am sure to the Kennedy money machine....

BUT this is another slpa at upstate, we have not had a statewide office holder since the 20's.

Patterson's reasoning is that Kennedy will be able to influence the senate immediately for federal money. And this seat was her uncle's and Hilalry's and the junior senator is usually a celebrity politician of some kind. I will reserve judgment until I see her in office, but I don't like the appointment, though I am not sure Patterson had alot of choice given how he got the office and how he needs to win reelection.

That being said Kennedy will be primaried somehow in the 2010 election if she messes up any...and she may only serve 2 years if sh gets tired of it.

Logic aside, I wish there was a way to nuke Camelot. Krauthammer was right and I'm sick of seeing political dynasties based on name recognition and some twisted sense of generational entitlement. Didn't we just reject that whole notion by electing Obama? Wasn't that the ultimate rejection, in fact?

Obama's election if anything strengthened the Kennedy clan. he was their candidate from the beginning, this is payback. Patterson may make the appointement but Carolyn was an ardent supporter of Obama from the beginning.

I know that she has been heavy in his campaign. I just find it hilarious that the mantra of change that engulfed the country leads directly to the continuity of business as usual. ;)

Change was something different to everyone. I am happy with change from the policies f the last 8 years, I am very happy with that. I will wait to see Obama's policies before I get worked up, but I think some of the ultra liberals who supported him are going to be very surprised at how moderate he is,. If you read and listened to what he said rather then imposing oyur own dreams on the guy I htink there could be a case that except for foreign policiy, Clinton was more liberal then Obama

So far, Obama's change of how things work in Washington is as valid as a $3 bill.

The only things I am expecting from Obama are what he promised, which includes an end to politics as usual. I can get behind that, as can millions of others. We're tired of the politics of foldeld arms and obstinence. We're tired of having to put a 2.0 after someone's name for clarification. By extension, we're tired of Camelot concept of name recognition somehow qualifying you for a political position.

Politics aside, they might as well nominate Maria Shriver. Or Bill Maher. He lives in New York, doesn't he? At least they would be cognizant of the issues and not some socialite heiress to nothing, who's only qualifications for the position comprise the sum total of her surname and mailing address.

At least she's never killed anyone like her uncle.

That said, I am getting a kick out of watching the dems all around the country look like complete and utter frauds and crooks. I hope no one got hurt falling off their high horse.

Biden's replacement was outrageous also. They just appointed one of his long time aides to hold his place for Biden's son.

Caroline got all of the Kennedy ugly and none of her mother's beauty.

I know, that adds nothing but I don't care, I had to say it.

It's amazing how the entire party can self-destruct when the most powerful Democrat there is, Obama, runs one of the tightest political ships in existence. This is ridiculous. Blago, Richardson, and Caroline... ugh.

If I was a New Yorker I'd be pissed off about this the way I was pissed off about the Harris Miller situation down here before Jim Webb ousted him in the primary. Then again I would never have supported Hillary, or anyone for that matter, to use my state as a stepping stone to the Presidency. New Yorkers don't seem to mind that sort of thing for some reason.

I think it's downright bizarre that some of you can somehow pin this on Obama-a guy who has zero real power over the situation, or the Blagojevich situation for that matter.

As for Biden's seat, if they wanted his son to be the Senator they could have simply appointed him. If it comes true I'll give Krauthammer credit but otherwise it sounds like another one of his paranoid emotional predictions (such as when he said Russia was going to install a puppet Government in Georgia and Ukraine was next).

I agree that you cannot pin the NY senate seat on Obama but the Illionois senate seat is riddled with his associates and, by his affiliation with the Chicago political establishment, attaches itself to him without any glue required. He may not be affiliated, but when you lay down with dogs....

You would have loved Krauthammer's piece on the moral legitmacy of Israel's conflict in Gaza, lol.

There is alot of rabncor but in almost every case the Appoiintment will have to run fior senate in the next federal year. NY will have to run in 2010, same with ILL. Not sure about Delaware but athat looks like the case as well.

Blags should not be making the appointment, but shame on ILL for not having a mechanism to remove him from office.

Its amazing that after all the b.s. with Caroline, Patterson made a solid choice and didn't cave to the New York machine.
