View Full Version : Is Spurrier Getting Too Conservative?

I know we had a 20 - 3 lead, but Spurrier didn't call hardly any passing plays after that. Did this conservative play calling let the Patriots back into the game? I think Spurrier needs to just keep going with whats working.

No he called a good game we won and Ramsey was inaccurate all day

Ramsey was inaccurate? I don't agree with that. Did you see that pass to Coles on third and sixteen in the fourth quarter? Threaded a needle on that one. Only got called back because the refs misread the rule book and thought that having ball control and two feet in bounds means that it's an incompletion. Maybe they're dyslexic.

It was Ramsey's worst game of the season, but at least he made no turnovers. I didn't really have an argument with Spurrier's play-calling. I thought the soft prevent defense the Redskins played in the fourth quarter was an embarrassing disgrace.

Billicheck gave us the run Spurrier did the right thing and took it. Spurrier called the right game IMO.

What got the patriots back in it was that BS prevent defense called late in the game. Gave the momentum to the pats, I hope the media reems Edwards all week about that we should never go into a prevent D only up 10 pts.

I was listening to the game on the radio while driving back from Pittsburgh... and Sonny felt the same thing... couldnt understand why the Skins were playing prevent D at that time of the game.

(Then I lost the station and had to chew my nails all the way home to find out who won!)

Spurrier wasn't as conservative as you think. Look at the 2nd half drives.

1st - 1 Run - Touchdown
2nd - 6 Runs, 0 Passes, (holding penalty) - Touchdown
3rd - 1 Run, 2 Passes - Punt
4th - 3 Runs, 3 Passes - Punt
5th - 3 Runs - Punt
6th - 1 Run, 2 Passes, (3 penalties) - Punt

If our defense could apply pressure to the QB once in a while we wouldn't be talking about any of this. The second half looked like last week's Overtime.

Hey how about this. On the Sports Center highlights it shows Brady pounding the ground after both of his interceptions. I thought he had a bad elbow and shoulder. It didn't look that way when he threw the touchdown. By the way, they also are ripping Spurrier for stopping the clock by passing on their last possession.

Offense got very conservative at then end as well. I hate prevent defense period. If aggressive Defense is winning you the game, then for heaven's sakes, stick with it dammit. But it was wierd in the fact they went so conservative on both sides

i dont think spurrier wanted ramsey to get rattled. he didnt have the greatest game yardage wise but he did not beat the team which is the most important thing. he could have mixed it up a bit more toward the end with some short high percentage passes, but i feel spurrier played it right.

I'm not sure if it was the play calling by Spurrier or the play calling by Edwards that got the Pats back into the game.

Regardless of how well the Skins ran it in the 2nd half...our Defense got beat up badly everytime the Pats held the ball. We need to stop allowing long drives on D late in games. PERIOD.

They get beat up b/c of that running start the RB's get on B.Smith's side. This week the RB happened to be 230 lbs and punished us.

Another problem Sam Huff mentioned on the radio is Lavar has no pass rushing moves, he alway's tries to rush using speed wide.

Well, I thought Spurrier got a little conservative in our last two possessions. There is simply no justification for playing a prevent defense early in a game with a 10 point lead.

To put it simply, the coaches called plays like there were two minutes left in the game when there were twenty.

So I guess it's better that we play catch up instead of holding onto a lead. I sure like to see one game where we dominate the other team both on the scoreboard and stats.

Prevent defense is the worst invention in the NFL. It was very plain yesterdays prevent came to early and almost cost the game.
Other than that, Ramsey played o.k. - I don't see it as his worst outing, just not what we think he is capable of.
That pass to Coles was definitely a catch and the refs and rules committee need to do some serious evaluation of the game tape!
‘nough said!

I kept calling for the knockout punch when were up 20-3. I nice long sustained drive that resulted in a TD would have done that.
