Personally I think this kid is going to be a stud. He has a 40 inch vertical, amazing speed, can run after the catch and most importantly leaps and goes to get the ball. He seriously looks like a bigger version of Santana Moss.
I am not saying we draft him but if one of the four offensive tackles aren't available...i would be mad if we selected this kid. I am thinking a 6-3 Santana Moss...kinda scary what do you think
In my admittedly limited view of the draft as a whole. it seems to be thin at WR at the top end which puts him in the first-second round and therefore, not a reasonable choice for the Skins.
If the big four OT's aren't there then there will be options on the dline and at OLB and I'd even prefer that they reach for one of the top OG's or Centers rather than pick another project WR.

I think Heyward-Bey could be a stud as well, but I also though the same thing of Vernon Davis. Darius was definitely a big reason why MD won games over his career; and in the games he wasn't fully involved in Maryland frequently lost. Not sure how he will translte to the NFL, but you got to love his size, hands and speed.

i think that unless we have a QB who can find him while stretched out on his back we better find ourselves some offensive linemen..

He's extremely raw in terms of rout running and would take time to develop. This is the last type of player we need at the last position we need. I'm not sure I'd even go on watching the draft if we picked him, which doesn't mean he doesn't have talent, but it's the last thing we need.

sadly, even after last years draft, we STILL might need some help at receiver..
a guy to catch third down passes on a regular basis would certainly help
safety might be the deepest position we have right now... or tight end

kinda scary in my opinion if we didnt then look at the defensive line, as with drugs just say no to any wide receiver.

Couldn't agree more. Is Matt Millen posting here? With 5 picks in the first two rounds last year and this we devote 4 to receivers??? Bite your tongue!!!!

Thomas ran a 4.34, the only 40 time I can find for DHB is a 4.38.

Where did you find that time from?
Most of the times I've seen and heard are in the 4.2s.
Which is why he was widely known as arguably the fastest (or one of the fastest) players in college football.
Also, the times I've seen for Thomas are in the 4.4s.

It was from an Ohio State recruiting site. Walter football and everyone else I've seen project him around 4.33 tops.
Devin Thomas ran his 4.34 at the combine.

Who cares about 40 time....Randy Moss ran 4.39 at the combine in '98 and we know how fast Randy is. DHB is blazing fast in pads and he can be very physical before and after the catch.
I was thinking he was a bit like Troy Williamson, but this guy can really go get the ball at its highest point and he has more of a burst off the line of scrimmage.

I was bringing up his 40 time as part of the comparison with Devin Thomas. Thomas is big and very fast also.

Thats not a good comparison lol.

How is he not similar to Troy Williamson. They both have outstanding vertical leaps, they are both blistering fast and they are pretty much the same size....tall and over 200 pounds. Deep threats and not great route runners. If DHB is a bust I bet you will be saying he is similar to Williamson then.
But going back to the speed factor, Devin Thomas couldn't run 4.3 during the season. He had to train to get his speed to that point. I guarantee somebody like DHB could go 4.3 during any point in the season. Thats the difference between trained speed which Thomas has and natural speed that somebody like Santana Moss has.

My point is that comparing him to a giant draft bust is not a good thing for your case for DHB.

I'm guessing you're a Umd fan if you're defending him from what wasn't even an insult on him. Physically and as NFL prospect, he's extremely similar to Devin Thomas. They're both big, fast and raw X WRs.
I actually don't care either way about Heyward-Bey, but we already have 2 raw WR prospects who can't get on the field and have bigger needs at other positions.

i went to md while he played. he was nice, but thats college
he has tremendous speed for a guy his size, and treendous athletiscism. making him a sure fire 1st rounder after the combine and no later then top 5-6 in the second.
That being said, sometimes he runs some sloppy routes, he doesn't have larry fitz hands, i would catagorize his as more a santana moss hands/holmes hands. Good but not great, but not braylon edwards bad. He does fight for the ball in coverage, has courage and does have RAC. i noticed that he has trouble getting off the line in press man coverage, and those where much smaller dbs in the acc. Not to mention his quickness is no where near moss who i put third to steve smith and reggie bush in that catagory. Its about average, maybe a little above for a guy his size.
He is a great athlete, but not a once in the lifetime, sean taylor/calvin johnson type player. 1 of him will come along every couple drafts.
oh yea, forgot to mention he does seem to have his head stright on. i had class with him a few times my senior year and he wasn't to arrogant or anything like that, participated, did well in class. Seems to be a pretty good kid in that regard.
i would pass simply because we already have a guy like him in thomas to develop. cause DHB is raw. very raw. Not to mention he would do nothing if campbell is on his back. lets stop working from outside in, and focuse on the inside and work out. generally thats how long term greatness is achieved.

Lol....I guess I was defending this guy a little bit. But yeah you're right, we do have other needs but he's talented.
Off the subject for a bit...if the Big Four tackler aren't available who do you like?

Just an FYI ......... for those who maybe interested
Bey matched the second all time fastest 40 at the NFL combines (according to the WASHINGTONPOST.COM/THE LEAGUE). Behind only Jerome Mathis (Hampton) 4.28 in 2005.

I agree, the potential is there. Hardly anybody outside of the ACC knew about this kid and most of them didn't particularly care when DHB came to town.

It's a shame we don't have alot of picks because I'm intrigued by Heyward-Bey.
And not because he's a Terp. :)

Are you not concerned about DHB's lack of production? He strikes me as being a workout warrior with fantastic measurables. But, once the pads are on, he disappears.

That's more a result of the QB.

You could be right, but DHB is not the kind of prospect I would want to select in the first round--way too risky considering his meager college production.
