Thought you nightowls would like to know. Tonight's episode of Conan O'Brien is the last (new) one. Next time we see him will be as the new host of the Tonight Show on June 1st. I've always liked his quirky humor and hope he does well in L.A.

Agreed. At least the Simpsons are still at least somewhat funny to even the most ardent traditionalist. SNL sucks the carrot since Amy Poehler left (and she was barely keeping it afloat by herself). The entire, ENTIRE, ENTIRE cast is unfunny. It's painful anymore.

The "all about eve" spoof they did to end last season might be a top 10 episode all time. It was HILARIOUS. In fact, there were 10 great episodes in last season(The Debarted, Dial N for Nerder, Apocalypse Cow, That 90s Show, All About Lisa, Midnight Towboy, Funeral for a Fiend, Pappa Don't Leech, Mona Leaves-a and Little Oprhan Millie).

True, that made it a classic episode. It was merely very funny with the concept of Lisa replacing Krusty, then getting scared when Sideshow Mel showed her the dark side of the business.

All about Lisa was solid. As far as the others, you and I have differing views of the word "great."
That 90s Show...was that the one were Homer invented grunge. If so, that is easily the worst episode I can recall. Not only was it not funny...at all, it crapped all over the history of the show. I love how last week during flashbacks of Homer's high school days, it was back in the 70s.

Funny, yes, but not as funny if you weren't familiar with the reference.
Honestly, a lot of folks could serve themselves well to watch classic films. And by "classic", I don't mean the "Smokey and the Bandit" series, lol.

Crapping over the history of the simpsons is a joke onto itself for the show. If you need to be told that, then you shouldn't be in this discussion anymore since the Simpsons have been making conceptual jokes like that for years.

Yeah, if you're not familiar with a lot of classic movies, you wouldn't get a third of the jokes in the simpsons. Citizen Kane alone is required watching for any Simpsons' fan since they makes cracks about it all the time.

I love watching classic films, provided they're not too classic. I can't get with the sepia silent era, lol. I caught "Sunset Boulevard" earlier today, in fact. I can get with anything from, oh, about 1930 to 1960. There is classic direction in some of those films that looks like some modern direction took the technique straight. And, occasionally, some of the acting would make 3/4 of the modern Hollywood elite shudder with inadequacy.

Eh, yes and no. There's plenty of crappy acting in the old movies. Those movies just aren't remembered much at all.

Yeah, I remember one joke they had when Homer was flashing back to the day he was born. "It was go-go 60s, or was it the 70s, or maybe the late 50s I'm not sure" (paraphrasing). The Simpsons is still funny. The fans that are upset that it's not as good as it used to be remind me of Bone fans ("why won't Bone go back to that Ouija board ****" lmao). Times change. The show is still fresh even though they've made about a million episodes. And I think it might be even better today, because its competition is crap. When the Simpsons was in its prime there was a lot of good shows on TV (Seinfeld, Martin, etc.).
If you wanna talk about a show that's fallen off, then how about Family Guy? It hasn't even been around that long and their new stuff is still WEAK.

She had a baby and got her own sitcom on NBC that premieres soon. It's like The Office set in the world of small-town local government.

That's cool
I think she's funnier than Steve Carrel (sp?)
But it seems like everyone is cloning the office's style right now (the office itself is a clone of the original British office). It's like the autotuning of the comedy world right now. :)

Conan taking the Today Show's Katie Couric around the city in a horse drawn carriage. That's about all I recall from episode #1. And Max.

Saw most of the last episode. Not much going on, just a bunch of past clips that were pretty funny. The White Stripes were terrible, and Conan choked up at the end when it was time to go.
I'm going to miss this show. I watched it almost everyday in high school and mostly in college. Although I haven't watched it much lately, it was always nice to know that it was on and that there was a show like that out there. I hope he does well with the Tonight Show. It's really amazing how he got the Late Night gig to begin with. He had no on-camera TV experience whatsoever, and they hand him a talk show. Pretty cool.

First Jimmy Fallon show was on tonight. Pretty terrible, folks. Guests were Robert DeNiro, Justin Timberlake, and Van Morrison. Van was outstanding - strong voice, looked good, brought a full band with him.
Jimmy was interacitve with his guests, and he made DeNiro read from a script, then do a lame acting routine with him. DeNiro is probably the worst guest in show business, so I'm surprised he was even invited. One word answers, looks around confused, etc.
Timberlake was asked to do imitations of John Mayer and Michael McDonald, which were funny. Jimmy also joined him in a Bee Gees duet. Justin tried his best to save the show.
Jimmy's monolog was medium funny but went off course when he narrated a dirty song to Nancy Pelosi with the help of his band. Sort of in the "Chef" mode from South Park. Actually a direct rip-off.
Keeping with this running interactive mode, he invited three audience members to take part in a skit called "Lick it for Ten Dollars." One licked a lawn mower, another licked a copy machine. Jimmy then whipped out his wallet and gave each contestant $10. Probably the worst talk show skit in television history.
I don't like the band much, either. Sorta unrecognizable world music with hip-hop & jazz fusion? ugh.
Hope Jimmy improves.

lol you mean the Roots? They are one of the greatest hip-hop bands in history. Very cool for him to have them as his band.
I do agree that his first show was pretty bad. He didn't really know how to interview, and was stumbling and asking stupid questions. I also agree that DeNiro was probably the worst choice they could have made for his first guest. He is notoriously a terrible interviewee.
The lick it for 10 skit was pretty stupid. I was waiting for something gross to come out of the curtain, but nothing ever happened. Timberlake's John Mayer impression was pretty funny.
Fallon better shape up or else his show isn't going to last very long.

What did you expect? He was unfunny on SNL where it was his job to be funny. Unless they put a strong cast around him (i.e. marginalize him to the point of insignificance) he is going to fail in the most spectacular ball of fire since the Hindenburg.
I thought it was a bad decision by Lorne Michaels when he made it and I still do. Plus, people just don't *like* Jimmy Fallon. We'll see what that show looks like in a year.

The White Stripes were terrible
I'm a HUGE White Stripes fan and I was very dissapointed with that performance. It has a terrible arrangement of that song; and Meg needs to stay on the drum kit and put the guitar down. What a drepressing performance to end Conan's final show.
I'm surprised they didn't sing Denial Twist, since Conan was part of the music video.

LOVE the White Stripes. I thought the first 30 seconds or so were a bit rough on the timing but I enjoyed the rest. They have never had an ultra polished sound before anyway and I like that. Wouldn't say it was great but I enjoyed it. I hope they reunite for a tour.

I saw the Stripes live about 2 years ago and it was phenominal. They cranked out almost 30 songs. They really mix it up, so every show is unique.

I never found the dude funny even when he was with SNL
But I dislike SNL in general so I might be the wrong person to ask
Conan also had a rough start but he had no on-camera experience
What's Jimmy's excuse?
Nobody's gonna stay up until 12:30 to watch Jimmy Fallon
Conan was hilarious and his ratings were still low
