I know we're not into the multiple threads on one topic here but I'm shocked there isn't a thread on the presser he had today.

When you get a chance check it out at Redskins.com (http://www.redskins.com). I thought he handled it very well and yes, the issues he had in the pass were discussed. Especially the incident with Dallas.

So, check it out and let me know what you think.

watched it on comcast and he was pretty impressive and talked about why he picked us over other teams. i like how he said he wants to make it to the hall of fame, and be remembered as a great player and not a bust

Wow, I'm impressed with this guy.

He said all the right things and I think he was genuine. He has the money, why not play your ass off?

He sounded genuine, let's hope he produces the results on the field. I wasn't a big fan of his signing, but after this presser and now that I realize that, somehow, we still have money to spend, I'm all for it.

His presser surprised me as well, definitely leaves you with a feel good feeling.

It surprised me as well. His demeanor throughout the presser remained the same even though questions surfaced about the incident. I thought he handled it well and I can only hope that his word can be taken to fact in terms of what he wants to accomplish.

I still think the money could have been better spent on positions that do actually need to be worked on. His position was needed, but let's face it. In 3-4 years, he won't produce as much anymore, defensive linemen don't last as long as quarterbacks and reveivers. Money could have been better spent.

By the way, welcome to hR.

Fixed.

I hope he teaches the rest of the defense to smash cowgirls. ;)

How pissed would you be as a Bucs fan now? They cut players, cleared the decks, and made it clear they were in the beginnings of rebuilding. When it came down to the Bucs and Skins, he chose the Skins partly because of that. I love it. How's that taste Bucs fans? :moon2:

Came off to me as straightforward with no hesitation in his answers. Oddly liked the way he talked with his hands, why? I dunno, maybe he seemed more trustworthy (body language experts please explain) than say that talk a good game Stubbs.

Have no reservations on the player, never realy did. Strange day unfolding with Big Al signing to go along with Derreck tonight, twist in it for me is I wanted Gurode in that draft over Derreck and if I recall correct Dallas snagged him just before us.

Cautionary note to Greg!!!!!!!! PLEASE PLACE NO REINS ON HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YUP!! "Really" 4 years, 48 million . . . per ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3940991)

League sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that a $29 million "poison pill" in the fifth year of Haynesworth's contract effectively makes it a four-year deal worth $48 million. The Redskins would owe Haynesworth a lump sum of $29 million in salary and bonuses in 2013, the fifth year of the deal. It is unlikely the team will pay the full commitment of $100 million over seven years unless the contract is re-negotiated. Haynesworth will receive $41 million in guaranteed money.

I was at first very hesitant about this deal. Like others have said, I thought we could have upgraded a few positions with the money spent. But now, I'm starting to get a little excitted about what our D could look like next year. I am looking forward to watching them play.

Wow, very impressive intro presser. The guy is huge and seemed to enjoy the banter. This makes me feel good. He's a smart cookie. "...play football and be destructive..."

Something else that he said that I liked. When talking about the stomping incident he referred to it as "my" incident as opposed to "the" incident. He's taken ownership for his mistake. I like to see that. It stands in stark contrast to so many other athletes who always deny culpability.

He seems like a good guy.

lol That's what I first thought as well. He comes across as very likeable, and seems to be genuine in his work ethic. He was funny, smart, and pleasant to the reporters.

I think Coach Zorn was good, too. He is a much better speaker than he was when we first hired him.

I'm in the same boat. When I saw the 100 million my jaw dropped, and I thought we overpaid for this guy. But after that press conference and the fact that it is really only 4 yrs and 48 million, I think this was a good move.

The 4 year/$48M situation gives me some comfort. If he busts its not as bad as it first seemed with the $100M #. The players never receive all that cash anyway. After my initial shock and anger, I am starting to feel better about this signing. He certainly said all the right things at his presser and seemed a fairly intelligent person.

As I stated earlier I would apologize to everyone who said we would sign AH prior to FA (and I said there was no chance), here it is. I was wrong and clearly you have a better understanding of the Skins and how they operate than I do. Here's hoping he continues his fine play and we dominate in the NFC East this year.

He was direct in what he said, no B-S. I like that. He is an elite DT and knows it, but still has that fire in his belly and in his head. With respect to the incident, which was one of the nastiest seen, he addressed it directly. If his core values includes honesty, then that incident is over: he was ashamed of his behavior, knew it could mean the end of the career he loves, and set a goal to change his behavior. Since that incident, as far as I know, he has not shown any tendenacy towards that kind of outburst while playing.

That said, in other articles, apparently he is a "free agent" player, in that, he plays his style and will not be regimented into a defensive coaches system. This type of attitude will test the coaching skills of Palermo, the line coach, and Blache, the no-nonsence DC. Further, how will the other DL players respond? The Redskins were a true "team" defensively last year - each doing what was asked of them by the coaches - to play their respective postitions as assigned.

It will be intriguing to see if this type of player, with all his talents, can seemlessly mesh with the rest of the defense. If so, expect to see QB pressure go way up. The question becomes what does it do to the goal of stopping the run (primary philosophy of Blache) - especially with JT not known for being a great run stopping DE, an aging linebacking core, and short on an outside linebacker (so far)?

On balance, however, I would have to say it is a BIG plus.

Another fun off-season of "What-ifs" for us to discuss. Good thread, thanks.

I have always admired the field play of Al, but the way he handled himself at the press conference was outstanding. Seemed like a genuine nice guy and did not dodge any questions about him tanking it now that he has the money and about the Cowboy incident(which at least should pump up the rivalry even more). I am amped even more after seeing this and finding out about the contract basically being 4 years.

Ya, I'm a huge fan of AH just because he stomped that Cowboy. I absolutely despise the Cowboys, and while I don't want to see that kind of thing happen again I can't help but feeling pretty good about the fact that he did it. I might buy his jersey and get the name STOMPIN on the back.

Excellent point! I'd like to think that both Greg and Al will meet in the middle as far as the teamwork you mention, on a side note often times this line appears to lose confidence and or interest, any possible negative feeling by the other players I would hope would be offset by the believe that with Haynesworths help they may now get it done!

I'm still angry over that 10 minute drive at the Meadowlands 3? years ago when everyone basically stood around.

I'd think he'd play well in Gregs overall structure of his scheme,,,,,,BUT with the game on the line I want the guy let loose to do max. damage as he sees fit!!!
