Ok with all of the signings. Are we done?? Does anyone know how much money the skins have left if any?

I think we're about 30 cents under the cap limit.

what's in your wallet ???lol
we have money enough for draft picks (vinny said that in his presser)
and i would bet they will juggle things as we go along. for sure, we need a pro level punter. we need a starting level SLB. plus we probably are going to be looking at some depth players for the O line- depending upon where we draft and whether we get any supplementary picks, or trade down
remember this, the more we trade down, the cheaper those draft picks are to sign. so if we convert that #13 into a late round 1 and perhaps a 2 or 3, they will end up costing Less to sign, even though we have more picks
we are not done by any stretch. there will be roster tinkering that will go on
for months

I hope we're not done... I want Hunter Smith. After that, I think we'll be done... I'm thinking Jason Taylor will be playing SLB for us and he'll probably extend his deal by one more year since we've got Haynesworth (my guess is he'll split the value of his 8.5M over the next two years as long as the Skins guarantee it... which will end up being the money we need for draft picks).
I also think Rob Jackson will be moved to SLB, backing up Taylor (he's got experience playing LB from college) so we won't be in the market for a starter. Maybe a late round pick on a LB would be a good idea....
While I'm on the draft, OT Smith at 13 is my first choice if not then Rey. If neither are there at 13, by all means trade down and get a pick for next year (maybe a high second and next year's first). We can get a good player in the second and have a good chance at getting the cornerstone OT we need next year...

I doubt JT plays full time LB. For a punter, I'd look at Tim Masthay from UK. He was great at pinning teams deep )to go with a 45.2 net punting average last season) and he too our kick offs and put about a million kick offs through the back of the endzone (even with the kick off linge having been moved back).
In the end I hope we pick up a few signings for depth, but I'm content to ride until draft day and see what's left after June 1.

I don't think the guy (JT) can play ful time SLB either. I think he'll be rotated there, and at end.

So Haynesworth with make more for each tackle than I will in three years??? If we aren't done, I don't understand how we have cap room...

I think we can pick up a low priced value FA here and there but, by and large, we're done. I'd like to see us pick up a vet Y WR on the cheap. I hear Derrick Mason is still out there.

Yes, I think we are done; at least with the big named players.
Our starting lineup got stronger...but as is the story every year with the Redskins: our depth is pitiful. Per normal, our success will depend on our health.

I don't think Vinny has any intent on picking up a WR. He is going to live and die with last year's draft.
I think it is possible we pick up a cheap OLB with starting experience (if such a thing exists). Remember we had a pretty good defense last year with very little at that spot.

That would be beyond stupid. Our young guys need to learn how to play at this level from a veteran who cares to show them. Judging by their utter lack of understanding last year, the guys we currently have (Moss, ARE) have either failed miserably or couldn't care less about mentoring them. Bring in someone who can contribute and teach at the same time.

That could happen too. I just don't see us going after anyone who costs much anymore, lol.

I absolutely agree. Haynesworth is considered the biggest risk right now, but I believe Thomas/Kelly/Davis is much more of a concern. They are already behind everyone else in their class because they haven't participated in a full training camp or season. Everybody is complaining that the Skins' are putting their eggs into one basket. If Vinnie stays solely with T/K/D, then maybe he is putting his "eggs" into the wrong basket.

I agree. For our offense to be good (not great, as it should not be needed with our defense), we need Campbell to make a small improvement, which he has done each year. We need the line to play consistently for 16 games, but we need the receivers to make a giant leap in production. For two seasons now, we have one of the worst WR groups in the league. That has to change this year (with the 08 draft picks) for us to have a chance.

I can't see the Redskins risking to take another unproven punter in the draft. Perhaps he'll be a UFA?

You know, that's a good point. I have problems with Campbell's lack of field vision and apparent aversion to downfield throws but he has gotten better each year.

I wonder if it would be crazy to cut Todd Collins or Trade him to wherever Al Saunders is for what a 6th rounder (is it the Raiders)...and target Jeff Garcia...would Jeff Garcia be better with a better O-line or am I crazy...

No, Garcia would be better for sure. But Campbell (and the fans) would be looking at Garcia the first time Campbell's QB play was questionable on the field.

Well if we want to solely draft through the lines, then Cato June can play outside, Takeo Spikes, and Derick Broooks are available.

Garcia is better as a back up now. He hasn't played a full season since 2002. That's not the guy you want as #1 going into the season.

right.. and i think he is reconciled to not starting again--except in case of injury.. he would be a great fit for the team because of his familiarity with the WCO.. the question is how JC would view it? he is so laid back i think he would handle it well, but still, inside, i think it would bother him unless he were given an extension..

I think Brooks would be great for a short term fix. He still plays the run at a very high level. JT could be used on passing downs.

Tyler Thigpen is now an after thought in KC. We should try to grab the guy. He's got the fire that Campbell lacks and can make something out of nothing, which Campbell can't do. A good no 2, and a potential solid starter. Might be available for a song now that KC has Casell.

So what do you suggest, trading one of our 4 draft picks for a backup quarterback with less than 10 career starts? Seems reasonable ... we don't have any needs really besides adding a 4th QB

Picking up a few veterans at the league minimum is the obvious way to go at WR and OLB (along with drafting an OLB in the 3rd round.) I think that the NFL, in an effort to keep Veteran players employed, has a deal where if you sign a veteran player to a vet minimum deal then let's say makes 800k... He only would count 400k against the cap. Can anyone clarify that?

I just have a problem with the fact that we even have to ask if we have cap space to sign 2nd and 3rd tier Free agents. I know it's too late but the Redskins should have passed on Haynesworth and addressed additional areas. A Canty, Boley or Canty, Crowell combo would have been a lot more satisfying for me.
