Here is my suggestion, with the first pick we trade down and still aquire Ander Smith & in the second we get Larry English from Northern Illinois.
Larry played the SAM linebacker position in college so it will be a easy transition. your thoughts

he played defensive end in college, is projected as a linebacker in the pros, from all i have read he would be best suited for a team that has a 3- 4 defense
dont think at this time we could trade down and still get smith.

I read somewhere English had a slow 40 time at the combine (4.8?)

even if smith falls, i think it is folly to think he will be there much beyond 13..
he has hurt himself, no doubt, but it doesnt erase a long college career that was excellent by any standard.. he has great physical ability

Where's the mock? Who would we be trading with?

My thoughts = Worst. Thread. Ever.

I don't want to see the Skins trade down for more picks ...... Pick the best player available for any of the serveral positions that need improving ... Any OL spot or LB - they can't go wrong. They traded down last year and where did those extra pick get us.

wisdom in that.. the only real advantage, besides netting more picks, is that those picks are exponentially less costly to sign as you go deeper into the draft...especially once you get to the second round

Totally understand that BUT it also reduces the chance of getting an impact player. At 13 there's still a pretty good chance they'll get a impact player.
IF they do trade down then I hope it's far enough down that it would make sense to take Alex Mack. Might not make an impact in 2009 but I would think he'd have a very good chance of getting in the starting lineup by the end of the season and easily a fixture for the Skin for the next several years.

this year there are going to be quite a few linemen besides mack who could be just like that: beatty, britton, unger, robinson ALL could be starting by year end, depending upon which team they go to.. there are lot of solid OL coming out this year

Agree but Mack is the BEST center in the draft.

I agree. It would be nice to snag a very low-risk potential stud at the bottom of the first round AND pick up an addition pick.

I'd take a trade down if two of the 1st three picks were Beatty & Sintim.

TRADE down to 2nd round. HOPE AND PRAY smith falls. he probably wont. in that case pick up duke robinson and clint sintim in whichever order u can. that fills two spots. if u cant get robinson find another RG or a pass rusher. but if we could get a Guard and a linebacker wed still need a tackle if ur hoping rinehart develops. we need depth on the line and hope for some flexibility

Seems like NE might trade up for a LB.. 12 picks.. come on bill.

Smith probably won't get out of the top 18, but where's the mock? If the Lions pass on Stafford and go with Smith out of Baylor, Stafford could fall all the way to #13, then we could trade out of #13 with the Lions to #20 plus their second rounder at #33. Of course if we did this we would have to give up our 3rd rounder. But that would leave the trade still 85 points short. And really we didn't gain a draft pick.

1150 + 205 = 1355

850 + 580 = 1430

It works if we get their #20 in 1st and #65 in 2nd
