The NY Daily News passes along a "hot rumor" that the Browns have put Braylon Edwards on the trade block.
This comes from Jets beat writer Rich Cimini, who may just be reading the tea leaves after an unsubstantiated rumor had Edwards going to the Giants for Mathias Kiwanuka. Despite his drop-filled 2008, the Browns simply cannot afford to trade Edwards. They've already given up Kellen Winslow.

that wouldnt happen in a million years without giving up more than just betts, but if that was the deal then yess.

I'd trade him for some McDonald's money, but why would the Browns take a so-so backup Rb when they have Jamal Lewis, Jason Wright and Jerome Harrison--all of whom I'd rather have over Betts.

1. I would trade Moss and a 4th for him...
2. I would cut Betts

Torry Holt has requested to be released by the Rams.
The Rams have found no takers while shopping Holt, likely because the rest of the league knows they won't pay his $1.25M roster bonus on March 17. Failing to exercise the bonus would terminate Holt's contract and make him a free agent. The Rams probably aren't going to get anything for him.

Is this a serious question? Betts for Edwards straight up? The NBA is the only league with trades that lopsided. Is there anybody who wouldn't trade Betts for Edwards?

Sorry for the obvious..over on the "other" board, the same question was considered sacrilegious.

(this isn't directed at you GenMgr)Can someone please explain the Ladell Betts fetish? Okay, he had a good stretch of games in 06, but other than when he was playing for a contract, he blows.

Man, its sooooo refreshing to be on a site with some knowledgable fans. I remember discussing this on another site a year or so ago, and people went freakin NUTS. Ladell Betts is just a whisker above average. Plus, the dude fumbles at key moments. They should've traded his ass 2 years ago when they legitmately could've gotten at least a 2nd round pick. Then again, that would take some intelligence, something our front office has not had in a long, long time.

The Edwards for Kiwi makes a lot more sense but I would guess a pick would be in there too.

Betts is nothing special and could have been replaced by now imo. Byner loved the guy though and it didnt hurt his chances of sticking with that 1000yard effort in his walk year. Rock hasnt proven to be more than a special teamer and that has helped kept Betts safe.

I don't agree that he "blows", but I don't see him as anything other than a backup who contributes 5-7 touches per game.

Exactly..... Really don't think we should be worried about what Betts is worth to the Skins - he has his role and fills it well enough. To many other areas to focus on

Brother Patrick is right! Betts worth is not the issue for making our Beloved Team better this season.
Don't like Betts... too bad... He's here until our faux GM can figure out a dumb a$$ package that moves him. (too tortuous to try and think about)

I don't know. A lot of other teams are getting much more out of their second RB then we are.

I see his point though, out of all the holes we could put our limited cap space to, 2nd RB has to be way down the list.

The only reason i would do it, is because when betts drops the ball its a fumble, for edwards its usually a dead play but our pass offense is so anemic anyway, i doubt i would notice.

Typical move for this FO, trading a young, cheap guy for an old vet on the downside of his career....wait, what :)

That would be a formidable WR corp. Sure they have only a little more left in the tank. But pretty steller all the same. These guys would help any team get to the dance.

Yes in a heartbeat. Edwards is 10 times the player that Betts is. Betts thinks alot of himself, but really he is good for a 1/2 yard when it's 4th and 1 and the game is on the line.

To answer the question, yes I would do it in a second. Would Cleveland agree to it? No. I don't even think Matt Millen would agree to that one.

Not to defend everyones favorite punching bag but can you back this up?
The guy showed up in his first camp not even signed, where and when did he get a big head?

Betts has no worth. Only on this team and franchise would we keep a guy like him and not develop new talent at RB.
older RB have a low value in the NFL. Betts has NO trade value.

Betts has no worth? Cut him, and he will find a job in about two seconds backing up some starter. He has already shown that he can carry the load when the starter goes down, and his body has not been battered. I would guess Betts would fetch a mid-rounder (third thru 5th).

Trade Santana Moss for Edwards? Are you nuts? Edwards led the NFL in drops last season (TO was 2nd). Why do you think Cleveland wants to get rid of him?
Santana is currently the Skins only home run threat in the passing game. He is coming off a good year and his hands are made of glue compared to Edwards' hands.

Based on what? Deuce McAlister, Rudi Johnson, Dominic Rhodes, DeShaun Foster and Warrick Dunn all still can't find jobs, why would anyone want Betts over any of them?

McAlister, Johnson and Dunn are all has-beens whose bodies have been battered. They have no worth. Rhodes is a so-so RB. I am a little surprised that Foster hasn't found a home. But, then again, he was cut by Carolina a year ago--proving he has very little, if any, value.
I may be overly optimistic that Betts can fetch a mid-rounder, but at least he still has a relatively "young" body and has never been waved. I do think he would find a job fairly easily if he were.
As for Edwards' hands vs Moss' hands, I guess we disagree. Moss does drop an occasional pass, but he has demonstrated very good ball skills in the past. Edwards is an overrated cry baby with some TO-like traits. He led the NFL in drops this past year and probably torpedoed his team's season and Derek Anderson's stay in Cleveland.

betts is not worth a mid rounder.. you can find guys like him every year in the mid rounds of the draft who dont have his wear.. he has had injuries over the years

Those guys are accomplished, and still might have something left in the tank. Betts is a never-was and is a dime a dozen. I doubt you could get anything for him besides a handshake. Looking at the list of FA rbs, there aren't many available Rbs I would rather have Betts over.

Moss led the NFL in drops in 2007, and the problem didn't go away in 2008. Edwards has a terrible hands, Moss' are much worse. If we had a competent FO, they would be ridding themselves of that cancer.

It is indeed possible that I have the reverse "grass is greener in the neighbor's yard" syndrome when it comes to Betts. I still like him as our backup, especially at his modest price. But, maybe, he wouldn't fetch a mid-rounder.

I may very well be wrong about Betts' worth. But, I still would not trade Moss for Edwards. I don't think Santana is a cancer on this team. In fact, I think he is the Skins' only real weapon at WR (unless and until Thomas and/or Kelly blossoms). And, Santana is not a loudmouth cry baby.

He's just a quiet cry baby who pulls himself out of games when he wants to. And he doesn't scare any opposing defenses any more.
