Vinny and Snyder are really trying not to look desperate right now...

Link (http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/03/31/bowlen-says-broncos-will-try-to-trade-cutler/)

It’s official: QB Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos are getting a divorce.

After a contentious and over a month-long falling-out between Cutler and new coach Josh McDaniels couldn’t be resolved, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen issued the following statement today:

“Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by Head Coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded.”

The bad blood between the QB and McDaniels started in late February when word leaked that the new coach reportedly had discussed a deal that would have brought Matt Cassel to Denver and shipped out Cutler. McDaniels tutored Cassel in New England.

...Who are the logical spots...Detroit? NY Jets? Vikings (although they traded for Sage, is he the answer)? How about the Texans? 49ers maybe? Skins (Can Vinny truly be taken at face value)?

Viks weren't interested previously. If I had to guess, in order:
Lions
49ers
Skins
Tampa
Panthers
Bears

If I was the GM of each of those teams:
Lions-#1 pick for Cutler and #12
49ers-pick 10 for Cutler
Skins-pick 13 & Campbell for Cutler and a 3rd
Tampa-Pick 19 and something else(future pick?)
Panthers-Peppers and a 2nd?
Bears-Their first plus Orton? Their first and a lb?

Apparently Cutler has interest from: Jets, Lions, Bucs, Bears, 49ers & Browns are interested.

and rumors persist about the Skins interest (along with Shanahan).

Skins-pick 13 & Campbell for Cutler and a 3rdI understand Cutler may act childish at times but I would love this deal. His combination of release/arm strength are sick. It's hard to deny his talent but I wonder if McDaniels would be keen on JC at all.

Maybe it's the prospects of the Jets choosing their starter from among the QB pool of Clemens, Ainge and Ratliff -- the Three Musketeers of suck, lol.

not if the Jets have any say in the matter...

totally think the Jets cannot see going into this season with what they have. Rex needs to make a splash

what goes around ? Elway wouldnt go to ? Bmore? Champ wouldnt stay a Redskin..

and knowing the Redskins, we would probably ad next year's #2 in just for good measure...

i will say this much..If we do get Cutler i see the hand of shanahan behind it and if i were zorn, i wouldnt exactly feel too confident beyond this year..

I'd love to see Cutler in a Redskins jersey but I think he'd suffer the same way Portis did when he first got to D.C...as in he'll put up decent to good numbers but not what he produced in Denver.

I think his numbers might drop in comparison to Denver, but his wins will increase. We have a defense that is exponentially better.

I think we have made some good moves with the Oline.

This could be real good

Explain, I think the Jets make perfect sense as a landing spot, just not sure how they could compensate the Broncos without a 3rd trading partner.

Mike Klis - who's as close to this as anyone in the press - in his update this morning names the Skins first and the Jets second as likely landing spots.

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_12040620
The Washington Redskins are among the leading candidates to pull off a deal for Cutler. The Redskins have a proven young quarterback in Jason Campbell and would meet the Broncos' preference of dealing Cutler outside their American Football Conference. The Redskins also have the No. 13 selection in this year's draft on April 25, one spot behind the Broncos.

The New York Jets also have been aggressive in their pursuit of Cutler. The Jets, who have extra picks in the third and fourth rounds, are better stocked for the upcoming draft than the Redskins, who don't have picks in the second and fourth round.

So before all this Campbell sucks and hasnt done anything in this league. But with the potential of trading him they now say he is a proven QB? lol

I know we definitely wouldnt give up our 1st and Campbell for Cutler. They would have to throw in a 2nd rounder for me to get interested in that. And even then i am not all that interested.

Lions, Jets, 49ers, Tampa would seem the more ideal place for Cutler.

As far as available QBs for trade JCs as proven as their is so I think it makes sense for Denver in that regard

The trad scenario you've described is how I'd envision it playing out or possibly or third this year, JC, and our 2nd next year for Cutler and a later selection (4th???)

Yep ..... Really makes allot of sense to go after Cutler. The true Redskins way. ...... Go after a QB with an amazing arm (and that's about it for good qualities) that has NEVER lead a team to a winning record .... COLLEGE OR PRO'S. ...... It's much more fun to root of a losing team that has a strong armed QB ......... huh? So nothing changes and we give more draft picks away ...... BRILLANT :bangdesk:

My reasons:
1-Cap room. The Jets are pretty hard up against the cap still, and it would be hard for them to make some room for Cutler. We dont have a lot of it ether, but we could make enough room if need be.
2-2008. The Jets splurged in 2008 on Vet talent and got pretty well burned. Even though they have a new coach, they have the same GM in place. I suspect he'll be extremely cautious.
3-Trade pieces. If Tannebaum could give them Vernon Gholston for Cutler, he'd do it in a second, but he doesn't have a lot of picks to deal thanks to the Sheppard and Favre deals. We don't have a lot of picks either, but we have a young QB and a top 13 pick to offer them.

For the record, I hope this doesn;t happen but if it does, what are the odds Cutler to Thomas is as productive as Cutler to Marshall? Does the QB make the receiver or the receiver make the QB? Where is the balance point in that equation?

It would be revealing what happened in terms of productivity in the passing game.

impact both ways, for sure.. but if the qb is unwilling to even throw the ball deep because he doest trust the receivers, there is ZERO chance of completion..

philosophically there is a huge difference between JC and JC this way..
depends upon what you want you qb to do, and how big a risk you are willing to let him take

Well, I say no to the 13th, unless a 2nd rder comes with. maybe next year's 2nd... (Campbell and a 2nd for Cutler vs 2nd for Cassell)... sounds alot better than the flippin 13th & campbell.

The funny (in a depressing way) thing is that, at this point, if the trade does NOT go through, we will find ourselves in the exact same situation the Broncos are in with Cutler right now, except we will have no options left.

Great situation to be in heading into Campbell's contract year.

it won't take that long ... Denver's been fielding calls for a month about this ... at this point they are probably just leveraging the Skins offer (whether it's real or not b/c the rest of the league will believe it) to try and get more from another team. I suspect a deal's done no later than this time tomorrow if not tonigth

I agree. So far I've seen nothing but speculation from the media on the Skins interest but the longer the Skins are silent the more I think something is going on.

For the record I don't support this move. With the current state of the Skins Oline & WRs Cutler will miss Denver by the end of September.

Another flashy player from another team. Just the type of bling to attract Vinny/Danny.

FWIW, local radio down here was saying Cutler to the Niners for Alex Smith, their first and third this year and a second next year. Now I realize that the situation has changed today, but to me, that seemed like a lot.
