The Bears acquired quarterback Jay Cutler today for No. 1 draft picks in 2009 and 2010, a No. 3 pick this year and Kyle Orton, the Sun-Times has learned.
The Bears receive the Broncos' fifth-round draft pick this year.

Two first and Kyle Orton for Cutler and a 3rd.

This tells me the Skins stood firm on a 2nd for Campbell and could not get it from the Broncos or another team.

From JLC:

The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade quarterback Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears in exchange for Kyle Orton, two No. 1 picks and the teams swapped third- and fifth-round picks.

Cutler had expressed a strong desire to play in Chicago throughout the process, according to a source who had spoken to the player. The Redskins had been active in negotiations, offering multiple draft picks and putting together several proposals over the last two days, a league source said.

It doesn't seem like the bears to do that kind of a trade.

But now for Fantasy Football I can mark Orton as a sleeper and Cutler as a bust. That is my prediction. Orton has great year while Cutler struggles.

From JLC:

This is gonna effect a lot of off-season negotiations for us imo. Dont know that Danny will come out of this as the beloved owner some players think he is. The only thing that may save him is if Campbell still doesnt get any better...

this years and next.. yup.. i am surprised that Snyder didnt match.. didnt say i approve of it, only that we didnt actually do it...

then again, it would be hard to have a lower opinion of the Front Office, but that would do it..

They both are actually in very similar offenses (except ours is west-coast) when you think about it.

Anyways, have been doing some reading on a Chicago Bears message board. It seems that Bears fans are VERY excited about the trade. Haven't seen a single post yet that says they gave up too much for Cutler. I know that is what I would be thinking if I was a Bears fan.

The Bears have signed like 17 RTs this offseason, if any of them were any good they wouldnt still be adding imo. Im glad we didnt trade away that much for Jay but I hope it doesnt make players lose the desire to want to play here with this fracken FO.

The only way to do that is with a new contract, and Dan and Vinny don't seem inclined to do that right now.
Wow. I didn't know that Cutler was a mix of Joe Montana, Dan Marino and John Elway.
He is not.
I have been holding it in, but trading for Cutler would really have ticked me off. I am very glad we did not make this trade, but it seems as if it was another episode of other teams (this time, the Bears) saving Danny (I am not even sure Vinny was in the equation on this one, despite all their Clean Slate bull) from himself.

The Cutler pursuit was another sad example of Snyder coveting big names from other teams instead of valuing and developing his own players. This a move that makes sense only on the surface, but falls apart when you check into it further. Snyder makes moves with his heart, not his brain. Thank goodness this attempt failed.

Campbell has had one full season as the starter in a new offensive system. He went almost half the season without throwing a pick despite having no one to throw to and a first-time playcaller as a coach. Campbell still played pretty well the 2nd half of the season when his OL got old overnight and his WRs disappeared.

He had an amazingly low INT percentage (1.2). Him not throwing more TDs is a function of his lack of playmakers on offense more than it is his fault. Campbell has shown the maturity and drive to get better, and commands the respect and affection of his teammates. Desptie the ineptitude of his OL and his WRs last year, he never complained about them and never threw any of his teammates or coaches under the bus. In his 2nd year in Zorn's offense, he should be ready to blossom, if he gets any contribution at all from the young WRs and his OL can protect him reasonably well.

Cutler, on the other hand, is a hothead who throws lots of interceptions and is easily rattled. He calls out his teammates, gets involved in stupid head games with opposing players and coaches, and is generally immature. Couple the fact that he has type 1 diabetes with strong rumors of alcohol use, and the odds of him having a long, successful career are questionable. Diabetics should not be drinking. There are questions about his lifestyle and dedication to the game. Meanwhile, he has never taken his team to the playoffs and is used to playing with superior offensive talent. There is zero indication he would be any more successful with our 10 other offensive starters than Campbell was. None. There is evidence that he would have folded under the pressure of playing with an ineffective OL and the worst set of pass-catchers in the league.

This was a typical Fantasy Football move by Snyder. Thank goodness it failed.

Acquiring Cutler makes a lot more sense for the Bears than it has for us. Cutler has a strong arm to deal with windy days and nights in Chicago, and the Bears haven't spent the last two years playing a young, talented QB that they invested a 1, 3 and 4 in trading for. They had Kyle Orton, and there is no question that Cutler is an upgrade for them.

Still the concerns I raised with Cutler hold just as true for the Bears. And teams like the Ravens have proven that you can win Super Bowls with good defenses and careful game managers who don't put up great numbers, which is what Orton is. Orton has an excellent winning percentage with the Bears, and that is nothing to sneeze at. The Bears WR corps is possibly even worse than ours (I know, I said ours was the worst, but we are probably better than Chicago's and San Fran's), and the Bears have serious OL problems (even with Pace) that they cannot address in the 1st round.
It will be interesting to see how Cutler does up there.

I am glad we still have Jason. I think he is every bit the talent Cutler is.

This will go down as one of the dumbest trades along with H.Walker and R. Williams. Denver just rebuilt their defense.
