Why is Rush Limbaugh getting a free ride? I remember "The Greek" getting run out of the business for his on-air racist comment.

what did Rush say?

"I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL," Limbaugh said. "The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well; I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team, that he really didn't deserve."

He's saying that McNabb gets credit for being a good qb simply because he is black.

I wouldn't put that up there w/ what Jimmy the Greek said. Can't someone just have an opinion?

I agree with him. I don't think McNabb is as good a quarterback as he is portrayed. However, the media and people like Jessie Jackson are so hungry to have blacks at the top that they portray him as such. All he is saying is that because he is black he gets more credit then he necessarily deserves. That happens a lot in this society, Not just football. I've never agreed that McNabb was a great great QB. I've always thought that he was a normal QB. Michael Vick on the other hand is one that lets his play define him. I hope people don't take this wrong, but that's just my opinion.

Anyways, can an admin move this to the Political Board?

You guys actually believe that the sportswriters all across this country, who pretty much every single one has given donovan his props, has been giving it to him because of his race? This is the biggest conspiracy I've ever seen orchastrated by the media. Sorry guys, but this is a bunch of crap. Blind faith in your heros is no excuse for a lack of common sense. Am I to believe that Tiger is given such hype only because he is black as well? My last thoughts on this topic.

I never said he was a horrible Quarterback, I just don't see him as the SuperStar. I'm not the only one, and not all the sportswriters in the country not near call him a SuperStar.

Well coming from a guy (Rush) who should be wearing a sheet over his head and dancing around a fire somewhere, I think it is racial. McNabb is the reason the Eagles aren't sorry anymore. The defense has been great but without McNabb bone of this would have happened. Limbau is human garbage and there's good reason that anything he says has to do with the fact that his picture is next to the word biggotry in the dictionary.

I dissagree greatly with Rush, but calling him names just makes you/us as low as him.

McNabb IS a very good QB. What is he not? ...... Perfect.

McNabb set the bar for himself very high by being very good. So as soon as he has a couple of "bad" games in a row, people are standing by like vultures, ready to pounce. It's very sad.

It's also sad that someone asked Doug Williams how long he had been a 'black quaterback' -- Props to Doug for both his answer and how he handled the question

You have it wrong.

The newspapers and the league hype players that make them money. McNabb is one of these players that fans respond (buying jersey's etc.) too so newspapers and media types brand him the 'star.' Thus he gets all the credit when things go right and the team gets the criticism when things go wrong. When fans start focusing the blame on him a few will sound like the fans who hate him and a few will stick up for him like the fans who love him.

This gets confused w/ racism b/c McNabb is an African-American playing QB. I don't know anything about golf so I don't know anything about Tiger but just b/c McNabb.is overhyped doesn't mean everybody black is.

Explain that to Rush. I agree that is why hype happens, not because of the color of your skin as Rush stated.

I again disagree with you. There is always a lot of hype because of the color of the skins. Example besides Mcnabb, Marvin Lewis. They made a big stink about him being the new coach of the Bengals. Do you think the league would've really cared if someone else had been selected? They make it a point to push African American's for the simple reason that it makes them look good and good publicity. And they have to because otherwise Jessie Jackson is breathing down their necks

Seems to me like Jimmy the Greek got fired for saying a lot less than that. I guess this tells you something about where our country is right now.

If that ain't racist, please don't tell me what is. As you can see what I called him isn't half of what he deserves and if you still think he isn't a biggot, then the discussion really should be over.

again as I stated, the hype that mcnabb has recieved is not by the nfl, but by the thousands of journalists across the country, you suggest that the entire journalism profession has been hyping mcnabb because they want to write about a great black qb.

People need to stop believing every single peice of crap that comes out of this guy. YOU TREAT HIM AS IF HE WERE YOUR GOD. Guess what he is not a god. Admit that he has faults and disagree with him from time to time. Become an independent who can think for yourselves.

I have not been attacking everything Rush, just his incredibly stupid assertion that McNabb is viewed as a great QB simply cause he is black.

I am really having to hold my tongue here. And it's going to be really hard not to flip completly. I am sick and fu**ing tired of being told to stop blindly following what Rush says or what Glenn Beck says. Well you know what, I don't blindly follow them. I do disagree with them. But in this instance I AGREE, on my own. I'm not brainwashed. I think for my damn self. Yea he has faults, but dammit don't tell me that I can't think for myself. No one was defending everything Rush. so to say we treat him as if he were my god? That has nothing to do with what we are talking about. Why don't you stick to the topic instead of attacking my intelligence, and my ability to think.

So you agree with the statement:

Donovan McNabb is considered a great quarterback only because he is black.

I think that the things Rush and others say is sad, ignorant and inexcusable. Just as what he said about McNabb was.

Please don't defend Jesse Jackson (I think he's called a Rev. but I'm not sure what church). He's as much a racist as Rush....Nuff said.

Thanks

It has gotten a little personal, but I have been able to hold control. Just so that I make sure I keep control though, I am going to pull out of this discussion. I spoke my piece and I think thats all that needs said. Cause if anyone else says something about me mindlessly following Rush or anyone I won't be able to. Since I am doing this and have no opinion of my own anyways, I wish to no longer be a part of this conversation.

That and I just noticed that Spence is on, and he would kick my ass in a debate. :smash: :D

Not to keep this going, but it makes me feel better to know that even though I'm in the minority, there are still 31% of the almost 2000 so far polled that agree with Rush's comments.

The comment itself makes no sense to begin with, but doesn't the fact that it comes from a man who is openly racist tell you even more about it?

jporterweb
10-02-2003, 09:09 AM
HE's openly racist? As I remember he was arguing the fact that Black Assistant coaches were going to be used as pawns in the NFL. He talked about instances like San Fran who publicly interviewed a couple black QB's, then out of nowehere Hired Mora when he wasn't even mentioned as interview. He said that while their needs to be more blacks given the opportunity, the NFL is just going to make a mockery out of them with these rules.

Yes I read that. A lot of that is just who he is. Doesn't make him racist. He treat everyone like that. Once again, people have selective hearing. He treats EVERYONE like that. I've heard him tell a white man that was complaining about something with some blacks, and he told him to go back to his KKK meeting and shut up. I've heard him trash and defend all races. I listen to the show every day...Do you?
