Lets all make an attempt at a translation...
"We met with Jason [Campbell] today and had a candid discussion. We told Jason that when [Denver quarterback] Jay Cutler became available we, like many other NFL teams, spoke with the Broncos. We are all on the same page and we are moving forward."
Translation:
"Jason cornered me in the workout room so we had no choice but to sit him down and give him our version of the truth. We told him that Danny had a stiffie for Cutler and that we were frontrunners in getting him; but Denver preferred Orton over Jason. We also told him we tried to shop him for a 2nd rounder but failed. Jason asked why Sanchez was still hanging around Redskins Park and we gave him the truth. Sanchez is here giving us inside info on USC's linebacking corp. Jason seemed pretty ticked off but he is super smart and a "core Redskin" and he brushed the whole thing off."

I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation. I imagine there was more smoke blown up JC's rear than I could stomach. I'm sure they did their best to seem concerned and probably tried to pump him up by saying that the ball was in his court and if he proves himself they'll give him a fair market deal this offseason, blahbiddy, blah, blah, blah.

Looks like the page that is handed to the commissioner on draft day that says we're taking Mark Sanchez lol.

Talk about an uncomfortable situation.
At the same time, this is football, and guys can't feel entitled to their jobs. Particularly average QBs.

Its possible, but I think its more likely they roll with Orton and draft someone like Bomar in round 2 or 3.

All I can say is Campbell has one thick coat and I respect him so much more.
Other than that, all I can say is Danny Boy is unfit to own an NFL football team and Vinny is unfit to run one.
Can we petition to have Danny Boy sell the team to another owner who doesn't think they are playing Madden '09?

Perhaps I was the last one to realize this, but I am now convinced that we will NEVER challenge for a SB until Dan sells and Vinny leaves.

Don't worry though - because I'm always telling MASTER nice things about you as I polish his boots and clean the PRECIOUS every morning. Per JLC (new post), Campbell called the meeting "very successful" and that they are all moving forward. He spoke highly of the candor of everybody in the room (Zorn, Snyder and Cerrato) and basically said the air is cleared.

He's quite the PR machine ... I hope Snyder and Vinny realize how friggin' lucky they they have Campbell
90% of the other QBs in the league and we'd be sitting on an even bigger pile of poo then we are now ... and we'd still have no draft picks or cap space or plan to address it

I don't think so. He didn't lose anybody by being a clown so he didn't win them back by not being one. If he lost the faith of some Redskin fans it's because of his performance on the field. And if folks still think he can become a solid QB, they'll point to those same performances.

Folks have been patient with him for 4 years. This is his year to make it or break it. And this year has to be one of big steps by JC. If we're left with another wishy washy season of patchy progress, his bandwagon will be pretty empty come December. The excuses of OL, WR or anything else won't get many ears.

Glad Jason is a bigger man then 90% of the QB's in the league, as someone else said. But in all honesty I think this was more of a move by Dan to make people quit second guessing season tickets & so he can sell some cutler jerseys to people into the hype. In other words, the business man Snyder wanted money. If Snyder & Vinny truly wanted Cutler they would have rushed head first into a bidding war with the bears; you know its true.
In the end Cutler's #'s were higher because of the WR's and OL he had to work with. Give him the injuries we had the 2nd half of the season and the lack of production from our WR's and Cutlers INT's would have gone up even more and TD's down a lot. Not to mention the Offense needing to make up for the defense on that team and getting a lot of padded yards. The #'s and wins aren't very different between the 2, but cutler had the 'sexy' #'s larger and made it to the pro-bowl because of it.
Hopefully Jansen does what he said, bringing back some of the OL who left, injuries being healed and the draft patch the OL enough. Hopefully we have some production from Thomas, Davis and/or kelly this year. Hopefully Campbell can show what he says he is going to. I don't think Cutler was the answer & i think he is going to struggle on the bears with the lack of WR's and an O-line. I'll take Jason in his 2nd year in a system with some comfort with the WR's and a hopefully improved O-line over Cutler. Cutler on the bears is going to look like Jason as the QB the last half of the season, but more INT's.
If Jason plays well this year i think he will stay, but it will cost us. Especially after this crap.
I posted my thoughts on Sanchez in the Sanchez thread.
There are a lot of QB's that are probably unhappy right now because of the cutler mess.

agree.. the front office has already signalled their intent.. my guess is that nothing short of a huge, consistent season by JC leads to a contract offer..

The front office is pathetic. Every time they make a move they dig themselves a deeper hole. Enough already....shut up and go stand in the corner. All of the trust that Gibbs brought back to the franchise is gone...poof!

If JC has a great contract season and he will hit the free agent market without any thought of talking to Danny. There are plenty of teams that would give him some big money that need a QB.
We would almost have to draft a QB at 13 because I can not ee Jason back here either by his great or bad play.

For those who say his performance on the field matters, well he is also dependent on the WR's and offensive line. Like I said on the blog, is he entirely at fault for the collaspe last season? No, he isn't but he did have his faults. Last season can't be pinned on him entirely.
Also, those of you that think it's easy changing systems almost every season, I'd like to see you try it.

Yeah, this was pretty much the point I was trying to make during the last few days. Not only have the Skins not made up their minds about Campbell yet (by either offering him a contract or moving on), but they have now publicly alienated him.
So there are only 3 scenarios at this point:
1)Campbell has a bad season, we let him walk, and find ourselves with no quarterback.
2)Campbell has a good season, we try to resign him, and will have to spend about 300% more than what we would have a few months ago (this could be irrelevant if there is no cap though). And franchising him doesn't seem to be that great of a solution because it just postpones the problem for one more year.
3)Campbell has a mediocre season, the Skins remain unconvinced that he is their QB of the future, and we go back to point 1.

Absolutely. The problem with the Skins' FO is that they simply don't have a plan. They keep changing their minds every two weeks, they jumo on every high-priced FA, they explore every possible trade opportunity..and that's just a terrible way of running a franchise.

no, they listen to Clinton more than they listen to Zorn IMO...
ie If Jason is Zorn's guy, then why didn't the front office beleive in that theory?

JC can say and do it all correct.. Bottom line is that he needs to perform on the field with a team that will give him the opportunity to pass or fail. Right now the FO continues to screw up that opportunity. JC is a just another body being wasted in a system built by idiots to fail!
Snyderrato can spin it every which way from the truth....It doesn't matter! It's all BS!

Well... I'm glad the fo sat down and admitted they were inquiring about Cutler rather than continue to deny it to Jason. Jason has handled this as well as anyone could expect to. I really want to see him suceed on the field, he has flaws that arent on the OL and the WRs but those groups have cost him countless opportunities as well.
The Offense as a whole lacks focus and the ability to execute the gameplan with the attention to detail and consistency thats needed. I hope JC wills his teamates to give more of themselves in that respect and that he can become more comfortable in his role as the guy.

This may be a mediocre and one of the worse FO in the NFL; but they do sign the checks here. In no uncertain terms they have told Jason Campbell that he won't be signed without a very good and complete season.
The real question is whether JC will stay with this franchise if he does have a very good year. The "NFL is only a business and there's no hard feelings" can go both ways.
I also think the FO is telling Zorn that he's got to atep it up as an OC - that was another problem with the second half of the season.....

The most galling thing of all is "Denver preferred Orton over Jason". This was also reported on NFL Networks.
I don't know which is the case. Does the NFL regard Campbell so lowly that he has less trading value than Kyle Orton (a no-talent, noodle-armed, piece of mediocrity)? Or, the front office at Denver is even worse than the front office in Washington?

Things may look bleak now, but I believe all this will be water under the bridge if Campbell has a good season. There would be every reason for the Skins to sign JC to a long-term deal. While Campbell presumably would have other suitors, he should know that his best chance of continuing success would probably be with a system, under a coaching staff and surrounded by players that allowed him to be successful in the first place.
That is not to say that he shouldn't stick it to Dan Snyder for a lot of $$$ though.
